Fresher's Day celebrations on Aug 6 for BC hostels

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government is taking proactive steps to alleviate mental stress among students and foster a friendly environment within BC (Backward Classes) hostels. As part of this initiative, BC, EWS Welfare, Handlooms, and Textiles Minister S Savitha announced that 'Fresher's Day' celebrations will be held across all BC hostels state-wide.
In a statement released here on Monday, Minister Savitha confirmed that Fresher's Day will be celebrated for three days, from August 6 to 8 in all BC hostels.
'The admission process for BC hostels for the 2025-26 academic year is already in its final stages,' Minister Savitha stated. She further added that BC Welfare Department officials have been instructed to finalise admissions by August 5. Additionally, officials at all levels, including district collectors, joint collectors, sub-collectors, RDOs, Tahsildars, and MDOs will also be attending.
The minister concluded by stating that the primary objective of Fresher's Day is to alleviate mental stress among new students by helping them forge new friendships, thereby instilling renewedenthusiasm as they begin their hostel life.

Eluru District Collector K. Vetri Selvi directed officials to expedite the land acquisition process for the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) works of the Polavaram project. At a review meeting held here on Tuesday, the Collector said that an additional 5,000 acres of land is required in Eluru district for the implementation of the R&R package, which includes land-for-land compensation, construction of R&R colonies, and other facilities for project-displaced families. As much as 800 acres have already been identified in Buttayagudem and Jeelugumilli mandals, she said, and instructed that the remaining 4,200 acres be acquired at a pace of 500 acres per week, which should be completed by August 15. Ms. Vetri Selvi emphasised that only non-tribal lands should be identified for acquisition, and there should be no encroachments by tribals or others. Once the lands are identified, grama sabhas (village meetings) must be conducted in the respective villages. The Collector instructed that RDOs and DSPs should engage with farmers and ensure village-level consultations in their presence. Joint Collector P. Dhatri Reddy, Special Collector S. Sarala Vandana, Alluri Sitarama Raju District Chinturu ITDA Project Officer Apoorva Bharat, District Revenue Officer V. Vishweshwara Rao, and others were present.

Khanapur: Nirmal District Collector Abhilasha Abhinav reviewed with the officials of the relevant and ordered that the construction process of Indiramma houses should be completed expeditiously. She directed officials to ensure that those who have undertaken the grounding should complete the construction of Indiramma house quickly. She told them to expedite the resolution of applications received in the Bhu Bharati Village Revenue Conferences. The land issues should be resolved by August 15 according to the Bhu Bharati Act. She said that the land issues of the applicants who have issued notices should be investigated. The new ration cards will be distributed in all the villages from the 25th of this month to August 10th. They were instructed that the concerned officials must take all the steps related to this.
