Dhami launches ‘Operation Kaalnemi' against ‘fake seers'
Pushkar Singh Dhami
on Thursday announced the launch of 'Operation Kaalnemi', a campaign targeting individuals who exploit people's faith and emotions under the guise of religion.
In a message shared on social media, Dhami said, "Several incidents have surfaced in the state where anti-social elements, posing as seers, are deceiving people, particularly women.
Such acts not only hurt religious sentiments but also tarnish the image of Sanatan tradition and social harmony. Strict action will be taken against anyone, regardless of their religion, found indulging in such crimes."
Drawing a parallel with the mythological demon 'Kaalnemi', who disguised himself as a saint to mislead others, Dhami added, "Today, many such 'Kaalnemis' are active in society, using religion as a mask to commit fraud and other offenses.
Our govt is committed to protecting public sentiment, upholding the dignity of Sanatan culture, and preserving social harmony. Hypocrisy in the name of faith will not be tolerated.
"
The CM further said that Uttarakhand, widely revered as Devbhoomi (land of the gods), is home to devout people who are simple and trusting.
"Unfortunately, some anti-social elements are taking advantage of this trust by masquerading as saints.

The police and administration have been instructed to identify such imposters and take swift action under 'Operation Kaalnemi'," he said.
V Murugesan, additional director general (law & order), said, "Police will begin the operation soon after receiving official instructions. Our intelligence unit will be activated to identify and legally act against those involved in such deceitful activities."

'Forced me to give false statement': Chhattisgarh 'human trafficking' victim accuses Bajrang Dal of 'coercion'; backs arrested Kerala nuns
Chhattisgarh alleged human trafficking incident NEW DELHI: A victim of an alleged human trafficking and forceful conversion, in which three, including two nuns from Kerala, have been arrested in Chhattisgarh , has alleged she was "coerced and assaulted" by Bajrang Dal activists to give a false statement, a charge denied by the right-wing outfit. The woman, 21, further claimed that her police statement was also not recorded properly, and added that her family has been following Christianity for the last four-five years. Also Read: Kerala rises in protest over nuns' arrest in Chhattisgarh Her parents, too, declared that the arrested persons arrested were innocent. They called for the trio to be released from jail. "I was going to Agra with the nuns with the consent of my parents. From there, we were about to go to Bhopal where we were to be given work at a Christian hospital. We were promised Rs 10,000 salary per month along with food, clothes and accommodation," the woman recalled to news agency PTI. "The nuns, whom I had never met before, arrived a few hours later there. Meanwhile, we were confronted by a person. Later, other persons from Bajrang Dal joined him. They started threatening, abusing and assaulting us," she added. She told me to say I was taken by force. She threatened that if I didn't, my brother would be jailed and beaten up. The GRP did not take my actual statement and were writing things I never said. When I tried to speak, they told me to be quiet and asked if I wanted to go home," she stated. The woman described Sukhman Mandavi, who was arrested along with the nuns, as a "brother to me." However, Bajrang Dal Durg unit convener Ravi Nigam denied all the allegations. "We have neither threatened nor beaten anyone. There are CCTV cameras installed at the railway station, the truth will come out through them," Nigam noted. Nuns Preethi Mary and Vandana Francis, along with Mandavi were arrested by the GRP at Chhattisgarh's Durg railway station on July 25 following a complaint by a local Bajrang Dal functionary, who accused them of "forcibly converting" three women from the tribal-dominated Narayanpur district and trafficking them.

Bidhannagar police launch drive against illegal and speeding e-rickshaws after recent accidents
File photo used for representational purpose. KOLKATA: Bidhannagar police have launched a fresh drive against illegal and speeding mechanised electric rickshaws after a series of recent accidents, including one that left a 58-year-old man critically injured in Baguiati last week. The man, who was out for an evening walk, was hit by a speeding retrofitted electric rickshaw and is currently on ventilation. Police arrested the driver, Bablu Mondal, and charged him under sections 281 (rash driving) and 125(b) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. However, he was granted bail by the magistrate at Barasat court. His lawyers pointed out that these battery-operated rickshaws fall outside the purview of the Motor Vehicles Act, which limits the scope of action against offenders, said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police. Officials said the PVD is working on a draft to fill this legal gap. The recent accident has renewed focus on the safety risks posed by these unregulated three-wheelers. On May 1, Shikha Dutta, an elderly woman, and her pet dog were killed in Salt Lake's BL Block after being struck by a mechanised rickshaw during their morning walk. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elegant New Scooters For Seniors In 2024: The Prices May Surprise You Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Learn More Undo Previously, in June last year, a Netaji Nagar resident visiting his daughter in Salt Lake died following a similar accident involving a mechanised rickshaw near Salt Lake Central Park. He was hospitalised for three days before he died. Earlier this year, TOI reported how many electric rickshaws in Salt Lake and other parts of Bidhannagar reach speeds of up to 45 kmph — nearly three times the average vehicular speed in Kolkata. Police say their renewed campaign will include field inspections to monitor speed and raids on units assembling illegal vehicles. 'Until a proper regulation is in place, we will focus on enforcement through available legal tools,' an officer said. 'We are trying our best to control the vehicles with available legal means. Multiple three-wheelers have been seized for violating speed norms and rash driving, and we are also undertaking regular awareness campaigns urging the three-wheeler drivers to drive safely and stay within safe speed limits of 25 kmph,' said a senior officer of the commissionerate. Cops added they are also conducting regular raids at illegal manufacturing units of such mechanised rickshaws at Baguiati, Kaikhali, and other places.

Russia hits Kyiv with missile and drone attack, killing 6 and injuring 52
AP file photo Russia attacked Ukraine's capital with missiles and drones overnight, killing at least six people including a 6-year-old boy, Ukrainian authorities said Thursday. Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko said at least 52 other people were injured in the attacks, and that the number was likely to rise. A large part of a nine-story residential building collapsed after it was struck, Tkachenko added. Rescue teams were at the scene to rescue people trapped under the rubble. 'Missile strike. Directly on a residential building. People are under the rubble. All services are on site,' Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on his official Telegram. Images from the scene showed plumes of smoke emanating from a partially damaged building and debris strewn on the ground. The force of the blast wave was strong enough to leave clothes hanging limply from trees. Residents defied police orders not to return to the scene of the attacks to retrieve their belongings. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko arrived at the scene. At least 27 locations across Kyiv were hit by the attack, Tkachenko said, with the heaviest damage seen in the Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Donating Sperm May Support Your Income SpellRock Undo US President Donald Trump said Tuesday he's giving Russian President Vladimir Putin a shorter deadline, Aug. 8, for peace efforts to make progress or Washington will impose punitive sanctions and tariffs.
