Hollywood didn't always hug him back. Hogan, who died on July 24 at 71, the gaudy patriarch of the VH1 reality series "Hogan Knows Best" (2005-07), never achieved the movie-crossover success of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He also leveled critics while setting the wrong kind of box-office records with some of his over-the-top films.
But with his flowing blond hair, muscle-bulging physique and larger-than-life persona, Hogan made movie impact – even if it was often a crashing sound. Here are Hogan's most memorable roles.
'Thunderlips is here!' announced Hulk Hogan's 'Rocky III' entrance
Hogan's bicep-kissing entrance as Thunderlips in the third "Rocky" movie and his ensuing ring battle are brief but unforgettable. Billing himself as "the ultimate male," Hogan bellowed, "Thunderlips is here!" entering the ring in a charity match against Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Described as "nearly 7 feet tall" by the ring announcer, Thunderlips towered over Rocky before throwing the heavyweight around like a tomato can. Naturally, Rocky impossibly triumphed in the charity mismatch. But what a movie entrance, in a prime Hollywood franchise!
'No Holds Barred' (1989): Cult classic that brought 'Rip 'em!'
Hogan's first lead movie role, as wrestler Rip Thomas, was tailor-made for his wrestling persona. Though critically panned, "No Holds Barred" became a cult favorite among wrestling fans due to its over-the-top ring theatrics, villains like Zeus (former NFL star Tom 'Tiny' Lister), and Rip's wrestling ring battle cry of, wait for it, "Rip 'em." It might just be the best bad movie ever.
Hogan crash-landed on Earth in 'Suburban Commando' (1991)
Hogan starred as intergalactic warrior Shep Ramsey, forced to lie low in American suburbia after a spaceship crash-landed in the action comedy. The pro-wrestler/alien-out-of-water movie was a box-office dud and a critical disaster. Packed with sci-fi gadgets incorporating groan-worthy special effects, slapstick humor, and early roles for Christopher Lloyd and Shelley Duvall (along with a young Elisabeth Moss), "Suburban Commando" found a second life on home video.
Hogan later made an interstellar cameo appearance in "Muppets from Space" (1999), portraying himself as a "Man in Black."
Hogan guarded kids in 'Mr. Nanny' (1993)
On the heels of Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Kindergarten Cop" (1990), Hogan played for kiddie-induced action laughs as former wrestler Sean Armstrong, who's tasked with serving as a bodyguard to two unruly kids. "Mr. Nanny" was another box-office bomb ($4.3 million) and critical dud that found renewed life on home video.
Hogan ho ho ho-ed the line in 'Santa with Muscles' (1996)
There had to be a Hulk Hogan Santa Claus movie (with biceps). Hogan played Blake Thorn, a conceited millionaire who truly believes he is Santa Claus after escaping from police in a mall Santa outfit. Despite an early film appearance by Mila Kunis and the best '90s Bad Santa line ever ("Fax me, you little brat"), "Santa with Muscles" was critically derided and an extreme box-office lump of coal with a total of $220,000 during two weeks in theaters.

Entering the final year of his rookie deal, star pass rusher Micah Parsons is looking for a lucrative contract extension from the Dallas Cowboys. Months of back and forth reached a boiling point on Friday, when Parsons posted a letter requesting a trade and explaining why his frustrations ultimately led him to 'no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.' Advertisement And that, in turn, led to a weekend of responses, including a wild thread involving Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, entertainment mogul Jay-Z, 'Queen of Rap' Nicki Minaj, and former Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant. As strange as it sounds, those characters were all joined together by the contract standoff between Parsons and the Cowboys. About 24 hours after Parsons made his public trade request, Jones spoke to reporters at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif. One of the key issues in the standoff between the Cowboys and Parsons has been the reluctance of Jones, the team's general manager, to speak with Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta. On Saturday, Jones was asked why he doesn't get involved with the agent, which led the owner to reflect on a different negotiation from a decade ago. 'When we have a problem within the team and a player, I don't ever find the agent. He's nowhere to be found,' Jones said. 'Jay-Z said that Dez (Bryant) would make all meetings. Jay-Z and I negotiated the contract. We spent hours negotiating the contract. (Jay-Z) said, 'Anybody in my organization is on time.' If that sounds familiar, it's because Jones told the story a little over three months ago at The Star in Frisco, Texas, days before the NFL Draft. At that time, Jones offered the anecdote unprompted, adding on to a question that was asked to Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones about the nature of negotiations. Jones' story got lost in the shuffle of that hour-long press conference focused on the draft. On Saturday, though, his comments caught the attention of Bryant, who took to X to respond, warning Jones that it wasn't smart to mention his name and that Bryant 'kept quiet' about a lot of 'unfair' things. Advertisement The next morning, Roc Nation Sports issued a statement, saying that 'the claim that (Jay-Z) or Roc Nation representatives did not return a call from Jerry Jones is not only a false statement, but it's also a comical one.' Later Sunday, Minaj posted a gif of herself walking down a hallway with the caption, 'I hope Jerry Jones is having a great day.' An hour and a half later, Minaj quote-tweeted Bryant's post about Jones from the day before. 'How about we play a game?' Minaj wrote. In a recent episode of her podcast, "Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce," Kelce discusses her plans for keeping cellphones under wraps when her children come of age to use them. Some parents and social media users are skeptical of how realistic Kelce's plan is, especially as the children are years away from wanting their own smartphone. "Sounds great, in theory," one TikTok user commented on a video clip of Kelce explaining the "kitchen phone." "Real world? We'll see what the next few years will bring." Another commented, "I love when toddler moms try to tell teen moms what works. Girl, you ain't ready." Some parents expressed concerns that children might sneak around with other phones if they are restricted at home. After news broke that Shaniece welcomed a baby boy—Blaze Taylor—with rapper The Game in 2024, fans were quick to scream betrayal against the duo for disrespecting Evelyn's 'best friend', Tiffney Cambridge. Now, on the July 30 episode of the Drop The Lo podcast, Evelyn put it all on the table, asking Shaniece straight-up if they crossed any lines with Tiffney following baby Blaze's arrival. The mother-daughter duo didn't hold back and cleared the air about where they stand and what really went down. 'They turned it into a whole story that it wasn't,' Evelyn, a former cast member of VH1's Basketball Wives , said at the 8:58 minute mark. Shaniece also agreed. 'Yeah, that's really a story that grew hands and legs, and fingers. I don't even know where it came from and who started that. But I don't respond to that because it's absolutely ridiculous. It's not true,' she explained. According to the 32-year-old internet star, Evelyn, 49, and Tiffney were never 'best friends,' even though Tiffney was seen in several photos with her mother, where they appeared to be close. One photo that surfaced in 2024 captured Tiffney standing next to Shaniece as she cradled Evelyn's pregnant belly at the baby shower for her second child, Carl Leo Crawford. Evelyn shares Carl with former MLB star Carl Crawford. Notably, several images leaked at the time captured both stars snuggled close alongside Basketball Wives creator Shaunie Henderson. 'A lot of people were at your baby shower. You guys were on the same network. And that was like over a decade ago. So, I don't feel any type of way that you were in the presence of and why should I? It's not like you guys were 'best friends.' It wasn't 'my friend.' That's a big one though, 'cause I get that all the time.' Evelyn insisted that the rumors of betrayal were a 'huge, huge, huge misconception.' The reality TV star described Tiffney as an 'amazing woman' and 'super cool,' but she claimed they never developed a close bond. 'And to be honest—I know about you, and me too—I don't live in a space of, 'I'm gonna sit up here and do this and I'm just gonna lie.' If it was the truth, then I would be like, 'It was the truth and some things happen.' Cool. But, it grew legs, arms, feet, ears, all of that. It was such a viral thing. I still have comments where people are like, 'How dare you? Your daughter had a baby with your best friend's [ex].' Granted, I think she's an amazing woman and super cool, but we didn't share space like that. We don't have a relationship like that. But, I think it's based off of photos from back in the day that came out.' This isn't the first time Evelyn has had to shut down rumors about her supposedly double-crossing Tiffney. In August 2024, the TV star took to social media to shut down the same accusations after she and The Game went public with photos of baby Blaze. 'It's always interesting for me to read the stuff about myself that are just false,' the reality star said flatout. ''Oh my God, this person was best friends with that person, how dare they!'
