Nagpur police's anti-narcotics drive also champions communal harmony
Uniting diverse communities in a shared fight for a drug-free future, city police now aim to make Nagpur free of addiction.
With an innovative and inclusive slogan, 'Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Isai, Nashe Se Dur Raho Bhai', the campaign emphasises that the ill-effect of addiction spares no religion or caste. The rallying cry, 'Nasha Nako, Disha Havi' (no to drugs, yes to purpose), is resonating across Nagpur through vibrant rallies, street plays, and awareness events.
CP Ravinder Singal's vision extends beyond law enforcement, emphasising prevention through education. "Our duty is to prevent crime at its roots, starting with young minds in schools and colleges," he said. This humane approach of running an anti-drug campaign positions the police as reformers, fostering a drug-free, harmonious city.

All 33 police stations, along with the crime branch, cyber cell, and traffic units, have joined hands to engage students, senior citizens, women's vigilance committees, doctors, and NGOs to spread awareness about ill effects of drug addiction, said a senior police official.
The campaign's multifaceted approach includes school competitions like essay writing, poster-making, and reel contests to inspire youth to reject drugs and embrace ambition.
Social media platforms are amplifying slogans like, 'Jo karega nasha, uski hogi durdasha' (Those who indulge in drugs face trouble). Police are aslo cracking down on drug dens, and smuggling networks, said DCP (crime) Rahul Maknikar.
Singal is also hosting a national-level conference on anti-drug abuse on June 25, to be attended by diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, educators, and community leaders. The platform aims to spark a dialogue on addiction and unity.
'Operation Thunder 2025' stands as a beacon of hope, urging citizens to join this people's movement to ensure the youth chase dreams, not drugs, in a united and harmonious society.

Indian Truck Driver's Fatal U-Turn Sparks Team Trump vs California Governor
The violent crash in Florida, which killed three people, has become the latest flashpoint between the Donald Trump administration and California Governor Gavin Newsom. A semi-truck driver, an illegal immigrant, attempted an illegal U-turn on the Florida turnpike, resulting in the trailer jackknifing and colliding with a minivan. It turns out the Sikh man, identified as Harjinder Singh from India, was issued a commercial driver's license by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), despite his illegal status. The finding gave ammunition to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which posted on X, "How many more innocent people have to die before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with the safety of the American public?" Three innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom's California DMV issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver's License—this state of governance is asinine. How many more innocent people have to die before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with the safety of the… — Homeland Security (@DHSgov) August 18, 2025 DHS is working around the clock to protect the public and get these criminal illegal aliens out of America, it said. However, Mr Newsom's Press office claimed that when Mr Singh entered the US, Mr Trump was the president. . @grok, who was President in 2018? — Governor Newsom Press Office (@GovPressOffice) August 17, 2025 Under California's law, one gets a commercial driver's license only when they have a lawful presence in the country, his office said. Mr Singh allegedly crossed the California border illegally in September 2018 and was arrested by Border Patrol. He was then processed for fast-track deportation, but he "claimed fear of going back to India", after which he was released on a $5,000 immigration bond in January 2019 after being given a Notice to Appear. The man has remained in immigration proceedings ever since. "The illegal alien is an Indian national who was granted a commercial driver's license by the so-called 'sanctuary state' of California, whose reckless policies put the lives of American citizens at risk every single day," said the White House in a statement. Attacking Mr Newsom, who has in past clashed with the US President, the White House said, "But instead of acknowledging the tragedy, criminal illegal alien sympathiser Gavin Newsom callously doubled down, claiming that giving driver's licenses to illegals 'improves public safety'." According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the semi-truck, which was towing a box trailer, was in the outer lane when it tried to do a U-turn into a section of the turnpike designated as "official use only." According to the agency, the minivan, in the inside lane, was "unable to avoid" the semi tractor-trailer as it crossed "over all northbound travel lanes" to make the U-turn on the access road. The minivan crashed into the trailer and became jammed beneath its left side. Mr Singh was arrested by US Marshals in California on Saturday on a warrant for three counts of vehicular homicide, and he is now facing deportation. Mr Trump and Mr Newsom have clashed on multiple issues in past, including immigration and economic strategies. They have feuded several times on public platforms as well.

Son of Boko Haram founder arrested in Chad: Report
A young son of Boko Haram's founder has been arrested in Chad, where he was allegedly leading a jihadist cell, according to both an intelligence source and a former insurgent. Chadian police confirmed having arrested six Boko Haram members but could not say if one of them was the older Yusuf's son.(X) Muslim Mohammed Yusuf was arrested alongside five other suspected members of the movement, which was founded in neighbouring Nigeria a few years before his birth by his father, radical preacher Mohammed Yusuf. The Islamist group has sown terror around the Lake Chad region for around 15 years, and has mounted increasingly brazen attacks on villages and military bases in recent months. Chadian police confirmed having arrested six Boko Haram members but could not say if one of them was the older Yusuf's son. A Nigerian intelligence source in the Lake Chad region told AFP at the weekend that they received a report of the arrest of a six-man jihadist cell in Chad. "The team was headed by Muslim, the youngest son of the late Boko Haram founder," said the source. The source however said that the cell belonged to the Islamic State West Africa Province group, a rival offshoot which splintered off from Boko Haram over ideological disagreements. The source added that Yusuf was an infant when his father was killed in 2009 during a military crackdown on Boko Haram that left some 800 people dead, giving his age as 18. Photos seen by AFP after the arrests in Chad, show a young, short and slender man in a blue tracksuit -- with a striking resemblance to Yusuf -- standing next to far older men. Yusuf, who goes by the alias Abdrahman Mahamat Abdoulaye, is the younger brother of ISWAP leader Habib Yusuf, alias Abu Mus'ab Al-Barnawi. A former lieutenant of Yusuf's father, who has denounced Boko Haram but has knowledge of the group's inner workings, also said Yusuf had been arrested. "He and the team were arrested by Chadian security. They are six in number," he told AFP. Chadian police said they had arrested "bandits who operate in the city... they are undocumented, they are members of Boko Haram", police spokesman Paul Manga told AFP from N'djamena. He said the cell was arrested "a few months ago". Nigeria's counter-terrorism centre and the national intelligence service did not immediately respond to AFP's request for comment.
