Will Smith Album: Jada Pinkett Smith, Chris Rock Slap Lyrics Decoded
Will Smith wasn't lying when he said Based on A True Story.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum just dropped his first LP in 20 years, and he is laying everything out in his own words. Indeed, there are some clear lyrical indicators to real moments in his life, including slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, his complicated relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith, and references to his kids Trey Smith—whom he shares with ex Sheree Zampino—as well as his and Jada's kids Jaden Smith and Willow Smith.
In the first lyric delivered in the album's opening track 'Int. Barbershop-Day' featuring DJ Jazzy Jeff and B. Simone, the 56-year-old makes an immediate reference to the aftermath of slapgate.
'Will Smith is canceled,' he sings, before backtracking, 'You can't cancel no icon.'
Another repeated line of the track seems to allude further to Will being canceled, 'I ain't never gonna forgive him for that s--t he did.'

For context, Will slapped Chris during a monologue at the Oscars in 2022 after the comedian poked fun at Jada's alopecia diagnosis. In a heated moment that dominated the news cycle for the following week, Will abruptly walked on to stage, slapped Chris, returned to his seat and then shouted across the Dolby Theatre, 'Keep my wife's name out of your f--king mouth!'
On the track, Will, DJ Jazzy Jeff and B. Simone play customers at a barbershop arguing about whether Will is still relevant following the scandal.
'Him and Jada both crazy, girl, what you talkin' about?' one sings, before another adds, directly alluding to Will's slap controversy, 'You better keep his wife's name outta your mouth.'
Later Jazzy Jeff also sings, 'I heard he won the Oscar but had to give it back, and you know they only made him do that s--t because he's Black.'
In the aftermath, Will did not actually have to return his Oscar, which he won for his portrayal of Serena Williams and Venus Williams' father Richard Williams in King Richard. However, he was banned from all Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences events, including the Oscars, for 10 years following the scandal.
In a statement to E! News at the time, Will—who apologized publicly to Chris following the ceremony—said, 'I accept and respect the Academy's decision.'
However, he seemed to have cooled on the Academy barring him in another track 'You Lookin' For Me?' where he sings, 'My s--t still hot even though I won't get nominated.'
Along with the other singers featured on the Based on a True Story track, Will also alludes to rumors about his marriage as well as raising his kids Trey, 32, Jaden, 26, and Willow, 24.
'Who the f--k Will Smith think he is?' he continues. 'And that boy damn crazy how he raising them kids.'
Later he repeats the first part of the line, but instead concludes, 'He only still relevant because of his kids.'
The verses, of course, allude to Willow and Jaden's status in pop culture and their feelings of exclusion from the Black community for their self expression, which Willow discussed during a 2020 episode of Red Table Talk.
'With the African American community, I kind of felt like me and Jaden were shunned a little bit,' Willow said during the episode, adding of what she felt from others, ''We're not gonna take pride in them because they're too different. They're too weird.''
And, following Jada revealing she and Will had been 'separated' for years in 2023, Will added of his continued defense of Jada in 'Int. Barbershop-Day,' also singing, 'I heard he down bad.'
Still, Will maintains an elusive response to where the couple stands on the following track, singing, 'Personal life with my wife? Mind your business, it's complicated.'

Emma Thompson Makes Honest Admission About Her Harry Potter Role
With a career that stretches back more than 40 years, everyone has a Dame Emma Thompson role they most associate her with. Many of us can't see her without getting a bit choked up thanks to her tear-jerking performance in the festive rom-com Love Actually, while for others, her signature role was in period dramas like Howard's End and Sense & Sensibility (both of which earned her Oscar wins, by the way). Then there are younger millennials who best remember her as Nanny McPhee, while more recently, she gave a chilling turn as the steely MP Vivienne Rook in Russell T Davies' dystopian Years And Years. And, of course, there are thousands around the globe to whom Dame Emma will always be best remembered for her performance as the eccentric and scatty divination professor Sybill Trelawney in the Harry Potter films. However, it seems that the woman herself doesn't quite hold that franchise as dear to her heart as some of her fans. During a recent Q&A at the Locarno film festival, Variety reported Dame Emma as saying of her stint in Harry Potter: 'I don't mean to be rude, but I came in, did the bit with glasses and hair, and left.' The two-time Oscar winner made her debut as Professor Trelawney in the third film, Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, reprising the role twice more in The Order Of The Phoenix and the final film, The Deathly Hallows, part two. Elsewhere in the conversation, Dame Emma also admitted she's surprised at the enduring appeal of Love Actually. 'I think [Dame Emma's character hit] a nerve because we, women, when we are experiencing heartbreak, sometimes we have to hide it,' she said. 'What moves you is not her crying, it's her covering it up, going downstairs and being cheerful.'

Lady Gaga's New Album Dances Back To The Charts
Lady Gaga dropped her new album Mayhem in early March and just a few months later kicked off The Mayhem Ball. The global trek sees the pop superstar traveling to countries across several continents and performing dozens of shows before wrapping in early 2026. As photos and videos of her high-octane performances make the rounds on social media after every new tour date, interest in Mayhem grows, and fans in the United Kingdom are getting excited for their chance to see the Grammy and Oscar winner before The Mayhem Ball hits London in September. Mayhem Returns to Multiple Charts The project reappears on multiple charts in that country, as Mayhem dances back onto two tallies in the U.K. this week. Gaga's latest full-length returns to the Official Physical Albums chart — which ranks only the top-selling titles available on CD, cassette, or vinyl — at No. 75. The same project also breaks onto the Official Album Sales chart at No. 79. Lady Gaga's Former No. 1 Mayhem has now spent the exact same length of time on both of those sales lists, as this frame is its twenty-first on the two rosters. In the past, when Mayhem was brand new, it hit No. 1, becoming a top seller in the U.K. Mayhem and The Fame Chart – But Don't Cross This week, Gaga sees two of her albums find space on the charts in the U.K., though there's no overlap between the pair. As Mayhem becomes a bestseller, The Fame, her debut full-length, appears on both the Official Albums and Official Album Streaming charts. On the former, which ranks the most consumed titles, her decade-plus-old set jumps to No. 56, while simultaneously declining slightly on the streaming-only tally. 'Die With a Smile' Represents Mayhem on the Charts Mayhem may be a hit on the charts once again, but only one single from the project is still going strong, and it's the oldest of the bunch. 'Die With a Smile,' her collaboration with Bruno Mars, lifts on four rosters at once. In just a few days, it will reach 52 weeks — a full year — on both streaming and sales rankings. An even older tune, 'Always Remember Us This Way,' is also growing. That solo track, taken from her A Star Is Born soundtrack album, rises on the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts, coming in at No. 61 and No. 59, respectively.
