Rooftop solar plants to be installed in 1 crore households by 2026-27: Union minister Pralhad Joshi
'The government launched PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in February 2024 for installing rooftop solar for one crore households by 2026-27 across all states and UTs in the country," he said during the Question Hour.
India's installed renewable energy capacity has now crossed 245 GW, including 116 GW of solar and 52 GW of wind power. According to the minister, the country has saved nearly ₹4 lakh crore by reducing fossil fuel imports and cutting pollution.
India had achieved a major milestone in its energy transition journey by reaching 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources—five years ahead of the target set under its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to the Paris Agreement.

SIR very big issue, govt must agree for a debate
New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday said the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar is a 'very big' issue, and the government should agree to a discussion on it and move forward. She asked why the opposition should not continue to raise the issue when the matter pertains to voters' list. The Congress general secretary's remarks came after the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm due to protests by opposition parties demanding discussion on voter roll revision in Bihar. Asked about the opposition continuing to raise the SIR issue, Priyanka Gandhi said, 'It is a very big issue. If all this is being done to the voters' list why should we not raise it?' 'The government should agree to a discussion and move forward, why not,' she told reporters in the Parliament House complex. Several MPs of the INDIA bloc parties have been protesting daily in the Parliament House complex against the Election Commission's voter roll revision in Bihar, and demanding its rollback. The protest, however, was not held on Monday in view of the passing away of former Jharkhand chief minister Shibu Seoren. The opposition has been protesting in both Houses of Parliament against the SIR, alleging the EC's exercise was aimed at 'disenfranchising voters' in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections. They have been demanding a discussion on the issue in both Houses.

Parliament Monsoon Session Day 12, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha 5th August LVIE Updates: Legislative business remains stalled in both the Houses as the deadlock continues over the Opposition's demand for an immediate debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, which triggered massive protests on Monday. Deputy Speaker Jagdambika Pal, presiding over the afternoon session yesterday, reminded members that not a single bill had been passed since the start of the Monsoon Session. This marks the third straight week of disrupted proceedings in the Monsoon Session, which commenced on July 21. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the BJP-led NDA parliamentary party meeting— the first such gathering during the ongoing Parliament session and the first in a considerable while. The meeting carries added significance as the nomination process for the Vice President's election begins on August 7. With a clear majority in the electoral college, the NDA's nominee is expected to win unopposed.
