PM to visit Sikkim, Bengal, Bihar, UP on May 29 and 30
On 29th May, Prime Minister will visit Sikkim where he will participate in the 'Sikkim@50: Where Progress meets purpose and nature nurtures growth' programme. He will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects and also address a gathering, an official statement said.
Later, he will visit West Bengal where he will lay the foundation stone of City Gas Distribution project in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts in Alipurduar.
Further, Modi will visit Bihar and inaugurate the new terminal building of Patna Airport.
On 30th May, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, lay foundation stone and dedicate to the nation multiple development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore in Karakat, Bihar. He will also address a public function.
Thereafter, he will visit Uttar Pradesh where he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects worth around Rs 20,900 crore at Kanpur Nagar and also address a public function.
On 29th May, marking 50 glorious years of Statehood, Prime Minister will participate in Sikkim@50: Where Progress meets purpose and nature nurtures growth.
The Government of Sikkim has planned a year-long series of activities under the theme 'Sunaulo, Samriddha and Samarth Sikkim', celebrating the essence of Sikkim's cultural richness, tradition, natural splendour and its history.
Modi will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects. Projects include a new 500-bedded district hospital worth over Rs 750 crore in Namchi district; Passenger Ropeway at Sangachoeling, Pelling in Gyalshing District; Statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji at Atal Amrit Udyan at Sangkhola in Gangtok District among others.
Prime Minister will also release the commemorative coin, souvenir coin and stamp of 50 years of Statehood.
During his visit to West Bengal, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts of West Bengal. The project, worth over Rs 1010 crore, aims to provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to more than 2.5 Lakh households, over 100 commercial establishments and industries besides providing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to vehicular traffic by establishing around 19 CNG stations in line with the Minimum Work Program (MWP) targets stipulated by the Government. It will provide convenient, reliable, environment-friendly and cost-effective fuel supply and create employment opportunities in the region.
On 29th April, Prime Minister in Bihar will inaugurate the newly constructed passenger terminal of Patna Airport. The new terminal built at a cost of around Rs 1200 crore can handle one crore passengers per year. He will also lay the foundation stone of the new civil enclave of Bihta Airport worth over Rs 1410 crore. The Bihta airport will serve the town which is rapidly emerging as an educational hub near Patna, housing IIT Patna and the proposed NIT Patna campus.
On 30th May, Modi will inaugurate, lay the foundation stone and dedicate to the nation multiple development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore in Karakat.
Boosting power infrastructure in the region, he will lay the foundation stone for the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-II (3x800 MW) in Aurangabad district worth over Rs 29,930 crore, which will aim at ensuring energy security for Bihar and eastern India. It will boost industrial growth, create job opportunities, and provide affordable electricity in the region.
In a major boost to the road infrastructure and connectivity in the region, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for various road projects including the four-laning of the Patna–Arrah–Sasaram section of NH-119A, and the six-laning of the Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata highway (NH-319B) and Ramnagar–Kacchi Dargah stretch (NH-119D), and construction of a new Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli.
These projects will create seamless high-speed corridors in the state along with boosting trade and regional connectivity. He will also inaugurate the four-laning of Patna-Gaya-Dobhi section of NH-22, worth around Rs 5,520 crore and four laning of the elevated highway and at grade improvements at Gopalganj Town on NH-27, among others.
In line with his commitment to improving rail infrastructure across the country, Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation the 3rd Rail Line between Son Nagar- Mohammad Ganj worth over Rs 1330 crore, among others.
During his Uttar Pradesh visit on May 30, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects aimed at boosting the region's infrastructure and connectivity. He will inaugurate the Chunniganj Metro Station to Kanpur Central Metro Station section of Kanpur Metro Rail Project worth over Rs 2,120 crore. It will include 14 planned stations with five new underground stations integrating key city landmarks and commercial hubs into the metro network. Additionally, he will also inaugurate road widening and strengthening work of GT Road.
In order to boost power generation capacity in the region, multiple projects will be undertaken. Modi will lay the foundation stone of a 220 KV substation in Sector 28 at Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), Gautam Buddh Nagar to meet the growing energy demands of the region.
He will also inaugurate 132 Kv substations worth over Rs 320 crore at Ecotech-8 and Ecotech-10 in Greater Noida.
Prime Minister will inaugurate a 660 MW Panki Thermal Power Extension Project in Kanpur worth over Rs 8,300 crore enhancing Uttar Pradesh's energy capacity. He will also inaugurate three 660 MW units of Ghatampur Thermal Power Project worth over Rs 9,330 crore bolstering the power supply significantly.
Prime Minister will also inaugurate Rail Over Bridges over Panki Power House Railway Crossing and Panki Dham Crossing on Panki Road at Kalyanpur Panki Mandir in Kanpur. It will support the Panki Thermal Power Extension Project's logistics by facilitating coal and oil transport while also alleviating traffic congestion for the local population.
Modi will inaugurate 40 MLD tertiary treatment plant at Bingawan in Kanpur worth over Rs 290 crore. It will enable the reuse of treated sewage water, promoting water conservation and sustainable resource management in the region.
In a major boost to road infrastructure in the region, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for widening and strengthening of Gauria Pali Marg for industrial development in Kanpur Nagar District; and widening and strengthening of road to connect Narwal Mode (AH-1) on Prayagraj Highway to Kanpur Defence Node (4 lane) under Defence Corridor in Kanpur Nagar District which will significantly improve connectivity for the Defence Corridor, enhancing logistics and accessibility.
Moreover, he will also distribute certificates and cheques to the beneficiaries of PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojna, National Livelihood Mission and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

SC orders recovery of 50k cr deferred power tariffs in Raj
Jaipur: Discoms in Rajasthan have been deferring power tariff hikes as they became a political tool under successive govts. But these are not subsidies and need to be collected from the consumers. Currently, the discoms sit over Rs 50,000 crore of such deferred tariffs. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court directed all the electricity regulators and discoms in the country to find ways to realise these revenues over a period of seven years starting from 2024 and it can be done by hiking power tariffs. If the state govt does not intervene and pay the amount, the discoms will have to hike tariffs to recover the amount. According to estimates, the discoms in the state need to raise electricity tariffs by at least 90 paise per unit from all consumers to recover the amount in seven years. Additionally, the discoms pay around Rs 5,000 crore interest on the Rs 50,000 crore liability. If the future interest amount is added, the additional tariffs can cross Re 1 a unit. The problem of the deferred revenues, called regulatory assets, is particularly severe in Rajasthan as its discoms account for over 25% of country's total regulatory assets. In fact, the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission, incorporated provisions on regulatory assets in its 2025 tariff regulations that are in line with the Supreme Court's decision. Manish Kumar Mahto of Centre for Energy, Environment and People, said, "Despite these stringent measures, the discoms did not outline any liquidation plans in their annual tariff petitions, as required under the regulations. This omission underscores gaps in the regulatory framework and RERC's limited ability to enforce compliance." Mahto said the apex court also capped annual revenue shortfall of discoms at 3% of the approved revenue requirement and limited regulatory asset creation to exceptional circumstances only. Mahto said that on top of concerns about high surcharges themselves, there are questions about how they will fit within tariff structures. "In their tariff petitions for FY26, the discoms have proposed that the combined Regulatory Asset Surcharge and Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS) be capped at Re 1 per unit. With base fuel surcharges for this year being charged at 28 paise per unit and actual fuel surcharges reaching as high as 56 paise per unit in last two years, there is little scope to recover even the initial 90 paise per unit regulatory asset surcharge required for regulatory asset liquidation," he added. Hyderabad: The city is gearing up for a grand Ganesh Chaturthi, with over 1.4 lakh pandals set to come up this year. The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, now in its 46th year, has announced 'swadeshi' as the central theme of the celebrations. "Nearly Rs 1 lakh crore is spent annually on Ganesh Utsavs across the country. All the puja-related products should come from Goshalas and local manufacturers instead of imports," said R Shashidhar, general secretary of the Samithi and Vishwa Hindu Parishad national spokesperson. I-Day celebrated with patriotic fervour in state
1 2 Ranchi: Independence Day was celebrated with fervour all over the state on Friday. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar unfurled the national flag at Morhabadi ground in Ranchi even as numerous functions were held by political parties, administration, judiciary, social organizations, schools and other institutions. Meanwhile, police were on the vigil, particularly in extremist-sensitive areas of the state, to prevent untoward incidents. A central reserve police force official stated, "Our personnel along with state police were carrying operations all over the state even though in many parts extremism has been eradicated." Addressing the I-day function, Gangwar said, "Jharkhand is a land of opportunities in fields of investment infrastructure, energy, innovation, education, health and sports. There is immense scope for tourism in the state. The number of foreign and domestic tourists has risen, which in turn has created employment opportunities." He stated that multi-faceted efforts are underway to improve livelihood of farmers adding solar- powered pump sets are being distributed at 90% subsidy while loans of around five lakh farmers, amounting to Rs 2,300 crore, have been waived off to provide them financial help. He stated that education is basis of development adding that emphasis is being given on training of teachers as per needs of National Education Policy. He said that cycles are being distributed to stop drop out among scheduled tribes, scheduled castes, backward castes and the minorities. The Jharkhand Student Research and Innovation Policy is being implemented to promote innovation, he said. The Governor stated that a plan to establish 'gyan kendra' with library, computer , internet and competitive examination books in 2500 gram panchayats in under implementation in order to strengthen gram swaraj. Taking part in I-day function at Vidhan Sabha speaker Rabindranath Mahto stated, " We have to ensure that development is not limited to the towns. The campaigns related to farmers, tribals, small industries, women self-employment, education and health must reach every village." In a function held at police headquarter DGP Anuraag Gupta stated that during the first six months of the year police have arrested 12 members of organized crime groups, five of terrorists organization Hizb-ut-Tahirir, 484 accused of illegal drug sales and purchase cases and more than 700 cyber criminals.
