
'Out of control' dog put down after biting man and police officer in North Yorkshire
Officers were alerted to the scene at 10.50pm on Friday (1st August ) by the man, who is in his 60s, following the initial biting incident.
He had been walking home from the pub on the Market Place when he was attacked by the dog near the bowling club.
Officers located the dog near the fire station at around 11.30pm and repeated attempts were made to bring it under control, during which a police officer was bitten.
The dog managed to get away and it was tracked down to Queen Annes Drive, off Firby Road, at 1.30am on Saturday.
With a vet due to take 25 minutes to arrive at the scene, a decision was made for a firearms officer to put the dog down due to serious public safety concerns.
The owner of the dog, a 64-year-old local woman, has been arrested for having a dog dangerously out of control which has caused injury to a person.
The injured man and police officer attended hospital for treatment to the bite wounds and receive tetanus jabs.

Dogs chase and savage young deer at Aberdeen park
Wildlife rescue teams discovered a scene of horror after a trapped deer was brutally mauled by dogs near an Aberdeen park. The young animal was chased into the fence and became stuck before it was savaged by the two off-the-lead dogs. It was still alive when staff from New Arc Wildlife Rescue arrived to offer aid but they were dismayed to discover the severity of its injuries. The wounds were so serious that they confirmed the deer had to be euthanised at the scene. The animal was found injured in a small grass park area at Erroll Place, near King Street, at around 7.30pm on Sunday. It is reported that the injuries were caused by an Alsatian-type dog and another smaller breed which chased the deer. Following the attack, Aberdeen dog owners are being urged to keep their pets on a lead. A New Arc Wildlife Rescue spokesperson said: 'Our advice is the same as the British Deer Society. 'Please keep your dogs on leads, especially when in parks or wild areas. 'Most of the time when we attend these types of scenes, if the dog owner is there they state that their dog has never done anything like it before.' Deer birthing season peaks between May and July, so it is more likely dog walkers will encounter pregnant and new-born deer during these months. Witness appeal over dog bite incident in Malham
Police are appealing for help to locate a "key witness" to a dog attack in North Yorkshire, which happened earlier this Yorkshire Police said a man was injured after being bitten by a short-haired Alsatian-type dog at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Visitors' Centre in Malham on 3 force said the man was treated in hospital for a bite wound to his investigating the incident said they wanted to contact a witness who had passed on the registration number of a silver/grey panel van belonging to the dog's owners to the injured man. A police spokesperson said they wished to speak with the witness and "anyone else who was there at the time" and saw what happened.
