Karnataka to Unveil Quantum Action Plan, Host Nobel Laureates at Bengaluru Summit
Addressing the curtain raiser of the Quantum India Bengaluru 2025 Summit at the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, Boseraju said the state government is committed to developing a comprehensive strategy under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. The action plan will be formally unveiled by the Chief Minister in the coming weeks.
The Quantum India Bengaluru Summit, scheduled for July 31 and August 1, will feature keynote speeches by Nobel Laureates Duncan Haldane (2016) and David Gross (2004), in a first-of-its-kind congregation of global quantum leaders in India.
'Like Karnataka led in IT and aerospace, we are now gearing up to make a strong mark in quantum technologies,' Boseraju said. He highlighted Bengaluru's innovation ecosystem, which includes top-tier institutions and advanced industrial capabilities, as central to the state's leadership ambitions in the quantum domain.
Key components of the forthcoming Quantum Action Plan include the introduction of quantum education at various academic levels, the establishment of advanced research facilities in collaboration with institutions like IISc, and targeted support for startups and industries in quantum computing, communication, and cryptography. A Quantum Task Force comprising domain experts will oversee the formulation and implementation of the plan.
The Summit will also delve into applications of quantum technology across multiple sectors, including computing, finance, artificial intelligence, healthcare, hardware, security, and even arts and society. Minister Boseraju noted that Karnataka is already ahead of other Indian states in the quantum space, and the new roadmap will help sustain and accelerate this momentum.
Senior officials, including Dr. Ekarupa Kaur, Principal Secretary of Electronics, IT, BT and Science & Technology; Sadashiva Prabhu, Director of KSTePS; and summit co-chairs Prof. Arindam Ghosh and Prof. Akshaya Naik were present.

Mr Boseraju clarified that the first homegrown quantum computer by QpiAI has been operational in Bengaluru since April. Just a few days ago, minister Nara Lokesh had invited aerospace industries to invest in Andhra after the Karnataka government had to call off land acquisition in Devanahalli following protests by local farmer groups. "Dear Aerospace industry, sorry to hear about this. I have a better idea for you. Why don't you look at Andhra Pradesh instead? We have an attractive aerospace policy for you, with best-in-class incentives and over 8000 acres of ready-to-use land (just outside Bengaluru)! Hope to see you soon to talk across the table," he had said. This was countered by several ministers in Karnataka who defended how the state has a ready ecosystem for aerospace industries. Bengaluru is already a quantum hub: Minister
India's first quantum computer has already become operational in Bengaluru, and the city has become an epicentre of the country's quantum development, Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology N.S. Boseraju has said. This came in response to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's earlier announcement of a collaboration with QPIAI, a quantum computing company, to establish the ambitious Amaravati Quantum Valley, under the National Quantum Mission. Mr. Naidu claimed this would mark the first such quantum technology hub in India, aimed at advancing research and innovation. Home to Indus Responding to this, Mr. Boseraju said Bengaluru has already made significant progress as the hub of India's quantum sector. A prime example is the 25-qubit quantum computer 'Indus', indigenously developed and operational in Bengaluru. Mr. Boseraju said India's first Quantum Research Park has been established at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. A two-day Quantum Summit was being organised in Bengaluru from July 31. Nobel laureates in the field of quantum technology would participate in this summit, he said.

KGiSL SEZ registers 25 % growth in exports last fiscal
KGiSL's Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for Electronic Hardware and Software, including ITeS, in Coimbatore saw 25 % year-on-year growth in exports in 2024-2025. The SEZ registered ₹ 6,769.97 crores worth exports last financial year, which is 65 % of all IT-SEZ exports from Coimbatore. The total exports from the KGiSL SEZ since 2008-2009 has touched ₹50,000 crore. According to Ashok Bakthavathsalam, founder of the KGiSL Group, apart from three anchor companies (Robert Bosch, Cognizant, and NTT Data), the SEZ has 38 IT and ITeS companies, many of which focus on innovation. Currently, the zone provides direct employment to approximately 34,717 professionals and along with indirect employment, the total employment generated by the SEZ has crossed 50,000. The KGISL SEZ is poised for expansion with the development of Wynfra CyberCity, which will span 1.9 million that will be LEED-certified andf wellness-certified. About three lakh of this space, coming up at an investment of ₹260 crore in the first phase, will be operational by September next year. The total investment in the project is estimated to be ₹900 crore to ₹1,100 crore. 'This new addition is specifically designed to cater to international companies looking to establish Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in Coimbatore,' a press release from the KGiSL SEZ said.
