The remaining construction work is at various stages, with 37 houses at roof level, 430 houses at roof casting stage, and 519 houses at plinth level. Speaking during the inspection, the collector emphasised the need to create awareness among housing beneficiaries about the state government's additional financial assistance. She explained that beyond the standard unit value of Rs 1.80 lakh for house completion, the government is providing supplementary financial support of Rs 50,000 for SC and BC community house construction, Rs 75,000 for ST community construction, and Rs 1 lakh for PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) beneficiaries. Ansariya instructed the housing and municipal department officials to leverage this information to motivate beneficiaries and accelerate the completion of house construction. She specifically directed attention to houses at roof level and roof casting stages, emphasising the need for immediate action to complete these structures.
To ensure systematic progress, the collector ordered officials to establish daily targets for stage conversion and implement measures to accelerate the pace of house construction across all ongoing projects.
Markapur sub-collector Sahadit Venkata Trivinag, Housing PD Srinivas Prasad, Markapur Municipal Commissioner Narayana, tahsildar Chiranjeevi, and other officials accompanied the district collector during the site visit.

1,773 farm ponds completed under NREGS in Andhra's Prakasam
ONGOLE: Prakasam District Collector A Thameem Ansariya visited western Prakasam on Tuesday and inspected several development works in Giddalur and Cumbham. At Kandulapuram village, she reviewed Ambedkar Girls Gurukulam School, farm ponds, fish ponds, cattle sheds, and plantations developed under MGNREGS. She assured students and staff of additional infrastructure support. Later, the Collector and Giddalur MLA Muttumula Ashok Reddy held a review meeting on the P4-Zero Poverty initiative in Giddalur. She visited Bala Sadanam and responded positively to the request for a new building. Ansariya said 1,773 farm ponds were completed and work on 800 more is underway. She highlighted the identification of 74,911 'Golden Families' across the district, of which 34,000 have been adopted by Margadarsis (mentors). She urged sincere efforts to make it a national model. The MLA assured full support, stating that 10,879 Golden Families were identified in Giddalur, with 5,868 adopted and efforts ongoing for the remaining 5,011.

Pahadiya girl defies odds, cracks JPSC exam through self study
Dumka: In a story of hope, strength and perseverance, Babita Singh, a girl from Pahadiya community, cracked the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) 2023 examination, whose results were announced on Friday. Babita, who hails from a particularly vulnerable tribal group (PVTG), is among the 342 candidates from across the state to have made the cut. What makes her stand out from the rest is her unwavering resolve to become a govt officer by overcoming the odds and resisting pressure from her family members and the community to get married. Babita, a resident of Asansol village under Dumka sadar block completed her graduation with mathematics from Sido-Kanhu Murmu University in Dumka in 2018. Her family members insisted her to get married after she failed to crack several competitive examinations. "We insisted her to get married as her attempts to crack competitive examinations for banking, railway and other services continued to turn futile but she remained adamant" said Babita's father Bindulal Singh, who works as a helper in a local private school. "Eventually, I relented," he added. "This was my second attempt to the JPSC examination in which I opted for Khorta language in the optional paper with the other compulsory papers," Babita told the TOI. Babita did not take tuitions and cracked the exam through self-study as she could not afford coaching fee. "I purchased books online and took help of YouTube and other digital platforms," she said.

Tribal hamlet in Anakapalle gets power after long wait
VISAKHAPATNAM: After years of living without basic infrastructure, eight families belonging to a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) in Samalamma Konda, a hilltop hamlet under V Madugula mandal of Anakapalle distrcit, have finally received electricity. The development was welcomed by the community, who marked the occasion with a traditional Dimsa dance. Located in the Madugula Assembly constituency, the village known as Pasuvulabandha had previously seen the migration of ten families due to the lack of essential amenities. Only eight families remained, continuing to live without road connectivity and electricity. Repeated requests for electrification were raised in Zilla Parishad meetings, and the villagers annually marked the Sankranti festival with symbolic protests by lighting torches made of cattle dung. Responding to these concerns, the State government sanctioned Rs 23 lakh to extend power lines from Kalyanakova in Cheemalapadu Panchayat via Jeelugulova to the hamlet.
