Emmerdale star to join BBC soap months after being axed from ITV show
A star of Emmerdale has switched from ITV to BBC in her latest move with the 21-year-old actress set to take on a role in another long-running soap
A former Emmerdale star is set for their on-screen return to a rival channel. It comes months after their exit from the ITV soap.
Daisy Campbell is recognisable for her role as Amelia Spencer on the Yorkshire-based soap. However, she is switching channels this weekend and will appear on the BBC's Casualty.
The 21-year-old actress will make an appearance on the long-running medical soap in a guest role capacity. The surprising news will see Daisy play the part of Georgina Birch on the show. However, little is known of her role with details being tightly guarded until the day of the episodes.
The latest role is her first big-screen appearance since her Emmerdale exit last year. She had been in the village for 13 years, but her character was axed after all relatives and connections were also gone.
Speaking ahead of her exit last year, she insisted the move wasn't her choice. In a chat with us last October, she said the shock decision wouldn't have been the one she had wanted.
Daisy, who was just eight when she joined the hit soap as Amelia, admitted she had been secretly struggling since she was called into a covert meeting and told her last scenes would air just before Christmas.
She explained: "It wasn't my choice to leave Emmerdale and it was a shock at first. Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I've spent the whole of my childhood growing up in the soap and it felt daunting.'
She went on: "Once they explained, I totally got it. "Amelia isn't part of the Dingles, her dad has left, Samson has gone now and she doesn't have any family.
"There is nowhere to take Amelia and I understand that. I feel incredibly lucky to have been in the soap for 13 years and to have been handed so many opportunities at such a young age."
Speaking about how co-stars and friends, Rosie Bentham, Katie Hill, and Jack Downham, were the only ones to know about her exit in the build-up, she said: "They were upset for me but so supportive. I didn't tell the rest of the cast my news initially as I wanted the time to process everything. I needed time to grieve the part of Amelia."
And she admitted producers took the decision out of her hands, but said they "done me a favour". She added: "I would never have left if they hadn't decided there was no longer anywhere to take Amelia.
'I am glad it was their choice and not mine. I see it as a big positive now because it is such a great chance to push myself, start a new chapter away from Emmerdale and take on hopefully some new parts. I am really excited about what lies ahead."

BREAKING NEWS Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom 'split' after seven years as insider reveals how pop singer is coping
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have reportedly split after nine years together. The pair have called it quits following weeks of escalating tension after nearly a decade of their on–off relationship, six years of being engaged and one child together. This comes just shortly after the 40-year-old pop star went to space, drawing significant backlash amid viral videos trolling her world tour and her poor-performing album 143. has contacted representatives for Katy and Orlando to request comment but hasn't yet received a response. 'Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable,' a source told Us Weekly, adding that the break-up was so far 'not contentious.' 'Katy is of course upset but is relieved to not have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life,' they said. The source described the alleged split as 'a long time coming' and claimed their relations 'have been tense for months.' For now, Katy is reportedly staying 'distracted' with her tour and caring for her and Orlando's four-year-old daughter Daisy, who was seen joining her while the 48-year-old English actor was elsewhere. On Monday, reported that Katy and Orlando were renting out their $30 million mansion in Montecito, California, to Chris Pratt and his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, which only intensified rumors of a breakup. 'Her and Orlando have always lived in their other Montecito home as their primary residence,' Us Weekly's source said. They said the allegedly split couple had intended to establish the rented mansion as 'their family home' before the situation changed. They added that Katy and Orlando have 'been living apart since Katy has been on tour.' Katy had been spotted multiple times with her daughter Daisy while touring in Australia this month, and Orlando has made several solo public appearances, including stops at the Tribeca festival and an appearance to celebrate the launch of a cruise ship with Drew Barrymore. This news follows reports that Bloom will attend Jeff Bezos ' wedding to Lauren Sanchez sans his fiancée Perry on his arm. He's said to intend to make his debut as a 'single man' at his billionaire buddy's nuptials, according to TMZ. Meanwhile, Perry will miss the wedding due to her ongoing Lifetimes tour in Australia. The pair have been in an on–off relationship since 2016 and are parents to one child together, their four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, who was born in August 2020. The couple have seen ups and downs after over a decade together. During their on-and-off relationship, the pair have made bizarre headlines together for dance-offs, dressing up as their older selves to work on a short film together and unconventional dates including nude beach romps. Perry and Bloom were first romantically linked after they attended multiple Golden Globes afterparties together in January 2016. Fellow partygoers reported witnessing their chemistry as they had a 'total dance-off,' according to Us Weekly. That same month, the pair enjoyed a theatre date when they saw a production of The Absolute Brightness Of Leonard Pelkey in Culver City, California, and met up with the stars backstage. They went Instagram official a few months later in May 2016 when the musician shared a funny photo of herself and Orlando dressed in bathrobes and splayed out dramatically on the steps of the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cannes, France. The same year, the couple made headlines when they went paddle boarding together in Italy. While Perry was attired in standard swimwear, Bloom opted to paddle while completely nude. They dated for a little over a year before calling it quits in early 2017. However, Perry and Bloom ended up rekindling their romance just a year later. The couple went on to got engaged in 2019 on Valentine's Day while celebrating their anniversary. They followed that evolution of their relationship up by making their red carpet debut as a couple after dating on and off for over two years when they attended the Gala for the Global Ocean in Monaco. Shortly after attending the star-studded event together, engagement rumors were in the air, with sources noting that the pair had talked about having children together. Bloom is already a father to his 13-year-old son Flynn, whom he shares with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr. In March 2020, Perry announced her pregnancy in a music video when she debuted her song Never Worn White. At the end of the video, she was shown cradling her real-life baby bump. In June 2021, she and Bloom made their first on-screen appearance together when they collaborated on the short film Transmissions From The Future. In the film, they played elder citizens from the year 2055 warning people from the past to 'save democracy while you can' to raise awareness about the For the People Act, which would expand voting rights in America and change campaign finance laws. During their appearance, they also gave a shoutout to their daughter, then just nine months old, and said: 'Tell Daisy we love her.' Earlier this month, People claimed Perry's poorly performing album 143 had caused 'tension' in her relationship with her fiancé. The singer's seventh studio album was released in September 2024 and received a largely negative response from fans and critics alike, who claimed the record sounds as if it was 'generated through AI.' 'The rumors of a rough patch are true, but it's not at the point of no return,' an insider previously told 'They know they must fix things, and they both want to figure it out. 'They haven't been able to sit down and work on some of their issues. A breakup isn't imminent, but they both know that they should focus on their relationship before it does become too late.' 'Katy was deeply frustrated following the reception of her new album. It made her very stressed,' a source told the outlet earlier this month. 'Orlando was understanding, but it did cause some tension,' the insider added. Another source shared: 'She was also disappointed in some of the tour reviews. It's put stress on their relationship.' Meanwhile, an insider recently told 'Katy has been through it the last few months. 'Leaving American Idol, releasing her lackluster album, the debacle over her space mission, and her struggling tour have been disappointing and stressful,' the insider said. 'There aren't many people she can dump her emotions on, but obviously she can with Orlando. But with his work and juggling parenting, life as of late has put a strain on their relationship,' the source added.

How releasing his father's soul left British journalist high as a kite: ROLAND WHITE reviews Amol Rajan Goes To The Ganges
Television people famously worry about working with children and animals. But that's nothing compared with the dangers of a presenter's mum loose in front of the camera. Minutes into Amol Rajan Goes To The Ganges (BBC1), his mother was gleefully recalling: 'You were very chubby, Amol. Pleasantly plump, I would say.' Thanks, Mum. As a child, Amol's role models were all white: people like cricketer Shane Warne and philosopher Bertrand Russell. (Oh come on, which teenager doesn't have a picture of Bertrand on their bedroom wall?) The only Indian who inspired him was his father, a bank official who died three years ago. Since then, the Radio 4 Today presenter and University Challenge host hasn't been quite the same: 'I've been in a bit of a funk.' In part to heal his grief, but mainly because the BBC suggested it, Amol flew to India to attend the Hindu festival of Kumbh Mela, a huge gathering of pilgrims on the banks of the Ganges. And I mean huge. During one day, around 70 million people — roughly the population of the UK — squeezed into just 15 square miles. They included what is surely the world's largest collection of thin, old men with very long beards. Not to mention sacred warriors, naked apart from a coating of ash, and lots of people dressed in orange, which represents fire. As Amol pushed his way through crowds, he was greeted with shouts of 'Praise be to the Lord Ram!' and 'Victory to Lord Shiva'. It was like watching a good-natured football crowd heading for the world's biggest cup final. The idea was that Amol would join pilgrims in bathing in the sacred river. He would connect with his religious heritage, even though he describes himself as an atheist, and somehow heal his grief. Unfortunately, events got in the way. He and his party were stopped before they could reach the holiest point of the river, the confluence of the Ganges and the Yamuna river. There had been a stampede, just 800m away. Ninety people were injured, and 30 were killed. So Amol had to improvise. This might sound odd if you're not a Hindu, but he took part in a ceremony in which oatmeal balls represented the souls of his ancestors. He mixed the balls into a mash, and took this to the river. 'I am now going to release the sacred oatmeal into the water,' he said solemnly. In the river, he ritually released his father's soul before immersing himself in the water. 'I'm as high as a kite,' he admitted. 'I can feel the cosmic energy flowing through me right now.' It was rather moving, but I couldn't help thinking that if anybody had told tough-talking interviewer Amol that they were full of cosmic energy, he would have rolled his eyes to camera.

EXCLUSIVE Revealed: The 'Strictly Super Spoiler' earns £5,000 a MONTH revealing the results and ruin it for fans
Known as the notorious 'Strictly Super Spoiler', he has ruining the family favourite BBC dance show for over a decade by revealing the outcome of the dreaded 'dance-off' before Sunday night's results show. Despite calls to stop spoiling the fun for Strictly's loyal fanbase, 45-year-old David Thorp remains undeterred and is set to continue sabotaging the 2025 series, which starts in September. But now MailOnline can reveal exactly why the software engineer student, who lives in a £70,000 semi-detached home in Preston, Lancs, won't stop sharing the results on his website anytime soon - and it's all down to money. Thorp is earning an astonishing £5,000 per month leaking results from the BBC1 show - which is more than some of the celebrity contestants are being paid to take part in the TV juggernaut. Sources close to Thorp have told Mailonline he has a mole within the Strictly camp who secretly informs him of the outcome of the results show, which is filmed after the live main show on Saturday evening, but airs 24 hours later. Cast, crew and audience members are sworn to secrecy not to reveal the result before the show airs, but Thorp's insider continues to tell him which celebrity and dance partner is going home. The insider also revealed Thorp's money-making scheme looks set to continue as Strictly have not made any moves to shut his websites down - or threaten any sort of retribution for spoiling the show. A friend told Mailonline: 'The money Thorp is making from giving away the Strictly results is ridiculous. Thorp is earning an astonishing £5,000 per month leaking results from the BBC1 show - which is more than some of the celebrity contestants are being paid to take part in the TV juggernaut. Pictured: Dianne Buswell and Chris McCausland on the show 'He can sometimes earn up to £5,000 a month when the show is airing. On a bad month it's around £3,000, but that's not bad money for simply revealing a result and writing a bit of text around it.' The source continued: 'He has someone involved on the show leaking him the results and Strictly have no clue who it is. 'They used to think it was audience members but Thorp still found out which celebrities had been voted out during the lockdown series, which was filmed at Elstree Studios without an audience.' 'But bosses don't seem too concerned as they haven't tried to stop him. 'He's had no legal threats or even just a polite request to stop spoiling the result. 'So I imagine he'll just keep on going.' The BBC declined to comment when asked by MailOnline if they have attempted to stop him from leaking the result. But a show insider admitted the weekly spoiler is incredibly infuriating for all those concerned with the show. The insider said: 'It just ruins it for everyone. 'It's obviously a huge part of Strictly, the actual competition aspect, and viewers love the jeopardy of whether or not their favourite dancers will remain on the show. 'And the BBC appreciate it also affects the viewing figures, as some fans won't tune it if they already know who's leaving. 'But they seem powerless in stopping the Strictly super spoiler - and clearly have no idea who the leak is. 'So this is going to run and run unfortunately.' The insider added: 'Changing the format to just one big show would end the result being ruined but there's not a change that will be happening. 'Strictly is so huge it would leave a gapping hole in Sunday's schedule if they didn't have a dedicated results episode. 'That's why bosses insist on having a big music act performing to ensure so the Sunday show remains a big spectacle - hoping those who know the outcome may still tune it.' MailOnline revealed in 2022 the identity of the 'Strictly super spoiler', who has been publishing the identity of the axed pairings on his website Strictly Spoiler every Saturday evening since 2012. Thorp, who's married to wife Angie, 31, insists he's not taking the fun out of the show, saying there's 'appetite' for viewers to know the result as soon as it's available. And he also blames the BBC for not doing two live shows, to prevent leaks from happening. Thorp told MailOnline: 'I'm just providing a service and am not spoiling anyone's enjoyment. 'I don't put the results for everyone to see and they have to search for my site to find out the results. 'There is an appetite from people who want to know the results before Sunday. 'It could be argued that the BBC is to blame for recording something which is of massive interest the day before.' Thorp claims he doesn't have one ''source' and he learns the result each week from various audience members, despite what insiders say. He explains: 'I find out the result by audience members there on the night contacting me or from the other strictly spoiler sites around.' Thorp has also garnered over 50,000 followers on X and over 7,000 on Instagram. His website is now being used for advertisement, which is how he pulls in the money, and fans that interact with him about the show have a chance of winning a £20 Amazon voucher. He said: 'People would contact me, and I would direct message them the results but so many people began asking I had to put it on a website I was operating. 'It just got bigger and bigger, and I have around 400,000 people viewing the website each week. 'I send out a link on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and people have to actively click on the link.
