Rupali Ganguly's Anupamaa In Trouble? Cine Body Demands FIR Against Makers After Fire Tragedy
The association also demanded a high-level probe in connection to the incident and demanded the suspension of the Managing Director of Mumbai's Film City.
All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding a probe in connection with the recent fire incident on the sets of Rupali Ganguly starrer show, Anupamaa. In its letter, AICWA criticised the producers for risking the lives of workers on the sets and slammed them for ignoring fire protocols.
'This incident is yet another alarming reminder of the repeated fires in Film City and other shooting locations in Maharashtra, which are a direct result of negligence by producers, production houses, and channels who routinely ignore fire safety protocols. Thousands of technicians, workers, and artists risk their lives daily due to the lack of basic fire safety systems and enforcement," AICWA wrote in its letter.
'Despite several previous incidents and warnings, no serious or systemic action has been taken by the authorities or Film City administration. Shockingly, even after earlier fire incidents were brought to the attention of the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha by me as President of the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), the government and administration failed to implement strict fire safety guidelines or audits across the industry," the cine workers' body added.
The association further demanded a high-level probe in connection to the incident and demanded the suspension of the Managing Director of Mumbai's Film City. It accused him of 'gross negligence and dereliction of duty" and went on to say that an FIR should also be filed against the makers of the show.
'Therefore, AICWA urgently demands a high-level judicial inquiry into the fire on the set of Anupamaa, immediate suspension of the Managing Director of Film City and the Labour Commissioner of Mumbai, for gross negligence and dereliction of duty, FIR against the producers, production house, television channel, as well as Film City officials for failing to ensure worker safety, and an investigation into possible insurance fraud, examining whether the fire was intentionally caused to claim insurance serious and criminal angle," it said.
For the unversed, the set of Rupali Ganguly's show Anupamaa caught fire on June 23. The producer's later shared an official statement, confirming that there were 'no casualties". They also urged fans to avoid 'misinformation" about the incident.
