Union min Pradhan lays foundation of infra projects in CU Punjab
on Tuesday virtually laid the foundation stone of infrastructure projects worth Rs 200.99 crore at the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), Bathinda.

The ceremony was part of a nationwide initiative to launch infrastructure projects at centrally funded higher education institutions under the ministry of education.
During the day, the minister virtually laid the foundation stone for the academic block, a 600-seater boys' hostel, a 400-seater girls' hostel, a 100-seater international students' hostel, and the vice-chancellor's residence.
Several of these buildings are designed in compliance with GRIHA-IV norms, incorporating green, energy-efficient, and sustainable features such as sensor-based lighting, solar energy systems, aseismic structures, zero-waste water systems, and full accessibility for differently-abled persons.
Pradhan lauded the proactive role of higher education institutions in implementing NEP 2020, particularly in advancing multidisciplinary education, digital inclusion, skill development, and inclusive learning.
He highlighted the notable improvements in rural learning outcomes through initiatives like the NIPUN Bharat Mission and emphasised that this progress is the result of collective efforts by educators, students, institutions, and state govts.
Vice-chancellor Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari emphasised that these developments would propel CU Punjab towards becoming a world-class institution with state-of-the-art facilities for teaching, research, and student well-being.

Deoghar district officials helps 349 lost Kanwarias return home in Jharkhand
Deoghar (Jharkhand), Jul 30 (PTI) The Deoghar administration has safely sent 349 Kanwariyas, who got lost or failed to return home after visiting Baba Temple to offer holy water during the ongoing month-long 'Shravani Mela' in Jharkhand's Deoghar district, back to their respective homes by making travel arrangements and providing financial assistance. The administration's initiative was implemented by the Central Lost and Found Centre-cum-Inter-state Information Assistance Centre set up at R L Sharraf School premises in the district, an official statement said on Wednesday. The district administration has been providing food and travel assistance to those Kanwariyas through the Central Lost and Found Centre cum Inter-State Information Assistance Centre. The objective of the initiative is to help the visiting Kanwariyas, who get separated from their families and to send them back to their homes. As part of this effort, the district administration made their travel arrangements and provided railway passes to a total of 349 such Kanwariyas so far, so that they could go back to their respective homes, the statement said. The administration has also provided financial assistance to some of them, it said. An amount of Rs 12,935 has been distributed among the lost Kanwariyas through the centre as part of the initiative so far. Meanwhile, altogether 1,99,287 Kanwariyas have offered holy water to Lord Shiva at Baba Temple in Deoghar on Tuesday, the 19th day of month-long mela. Irrigation dept reports Kirari Suleman Nagar drain receives excess drainage, plans upgrade to prevent waterlogging
New Delhi: The irrigation and flood control department (IFC) has submitted a report to National Green Tribunal, explaining that the 7.8-km Kirari Suleman Nagar drain is receiving more drainage than its carrying capacity. The drain starts at Rohini Sector 20-21 and passes through densely populated, unauthorised and waterlogging-sensitive areas of Kirari and Mundka. The reply followed the Times of India's Nov 2024 report titled "How this 'river' of filth claimed teen's life", after a 13-year-old boy drowned in the drain near Rajendra Nagar Extension. It passes through densely populated, rapidly developing unauthorised colonies and Kirari and Mundka Assembly constituencies, which are waterlogging-prone," the reply dated July 29 said. The department said that over Rs 58 crore was sanctioned to redesign the drain in the Kirari area to resolve the waterlogging problem. The irrigation department also said that due to the rapid increase of unauthorised colonies in Kirari and Mundka, the drain also carries wastewater in addition to stormwater, including sewage and household waste discarded by residents. The scheme amounting to Rs 629.9 lakh has been approved. The schemes envisage the demolishing and reconstruction of culverts resulting in the obstruction of free flow of the drain," the irrigation department said. It also added that the department has taken up the maintenance and removal of floating material, garbage and obstruction through tender, with proper removal of silt, cow excreta, MSW, and floating materials from the bank, to ensure smooth flow in the drain throughout the year. Meanwhile, in a separate submission on the same matter, the sub-divisional magistrate, Punjabi Bagh, West district, submitted that an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh was sanctioned for the family of the deceased.
