Tesla Makes Long-Awaited India Debut
CC-Transcript
00:00Alicia, talk to us about how significant this move is. Well, good morning, Hassan. It is a significant move in that after years of back and forth and stop start negotiations with the Indian government over its high and steep tariffs on car imports, Tesla has finally decided to enter the Indian market. Look for PM Modi, who has made local manufacturing the cornerstone of the Indian industrial push. This is not a very satisfying move given that Tesla is only going to make a bit of a cautious start, a soft landing, if you will, by importing cars into the into the Indian market to really test the waters first. What you're seeing is a Tesla launching with two experience centres, one here in Mumbai in the financial capital and one in New Delhi, which is set to open up later this month. So it is significant because I mean, it is a milestone, of course, because it is the world's most valuable company. India is also a complex market, too big to ignore. It is the third largest stock market in the world, so it does not have decided to dip its doors. It's not the kind of full fledged manufacturing push that India was hoping for, but it will allow the brand to really gauge demand for the market for its cars with with the country's affluent buyers. Way to debut. He had just been pretty low key. How do you explain the approach that Tesla is taking to a huge market like India? No, absolutely. It is low key, especially considering how the other global carmakers have approached the Indian market. So we're not really seeing a PR or a media blitz around this launch. There's no Bollywood celebrity cutting a ribbon here, and it is a very Tesla like playbook. Clearly, it is banking on the organic brand. All of that the brand, you know, has in the global markets to really do the work in India as well. The best way to look at these experience centers will be as kind of live market experiments. Tesla is about to find out how many people walk into these stores. The kind of buzz that the brand is able to generate and then how that buzz really translates to people wanting to pony up the cash and be a very steep premium to actually buy these cars in India. Big questions being asked right now. One of the key ones for for Tesla. He has three big questions that Tesla will have to address in India. The first one and the one to immediately address is around pricing with 70% import tariffs on test scores. They will fall in an entirely different price bracket than the Tesla cars do in the U.S. and Europe. So one will have to see whether even the luxury car buyers will want to pay these steep premiums for a Tesla badge in India. The second one is really the policy angle. For years, Tesla has tried to negotiate and impress upon India that it is its car market is highly protected, and particularly for EVs, which is a cleaner emission technology. There should be concessions given to new players wanting to access the market and gauge demand for their products. India is also currently discussing trade terms with the US and European Union. So if a favorite between will comes up there, then that may change Tesla's plans. And the biggest one, of course, is whether all of this will lead to manufacturing in India. And that's something we have to watch for.

Exclusive-Indian owners of three ships ask sanctions-hit Nayara Energy to release the vessels, sources say
By Nidhi Verma and Mohi Narayan NEW DELHI (Reuters) -The Indian owners of three vessels chartered to Nayara Energy have asked the Russian-backed firm to end their contracts following recent European Union sanctions on the refiner, six sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. India-based Seven Islands Shipping Ltd and Great Eastern Shipping Co (GESCO) have asked Nayara to release the three clean products tankers, citing concerns over the sanctions, five of the sources said. The medium-range vessels are the Bourbon and Courage, owned and managed by Seven Islands, and GESCO's tanker Jag Pooja, sources said. The sources declined to be named as they were not authorised to speak to the media. Mumbai-based Nayara, Seven Islands and GESCO did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Lack of access to ships is hampering efforts by the Indian refiner to sell its refined-fuel stocks, which are building up. The EU sanctions package unveiled on July 18 against Russia and its energy sector have forced Nayara to reduce operations at its 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery due to storage constraints, Reuters reported earlier on Tuesday. Privately held Nayara, which runs India's third-biggest refinery at the port of Vadinar in the western state of Gujarat, controls nearly 8% of the country's total refining capacity of about 5.2 million bpd. Nayara, majority-owned by Russian entities including oil major Rosneft, exports refined products and also supplies them domestically. Nayara operates more than 6,000 fuel stations.

Tesla's Affordable EV Is So Much Less Than "Just A Model Y"
Tesla's Affordable EV Is So Much Less Than "Just A Model Y" originally appeared on Autoblog. Chinese Leak Reveals Significant Changes Back in February, Tesla began promising new Model Y variants, and since then, the Model Y L has been revealed as a bigger six-seater for China. There have also been rumors of a more luxurious long-wheelbase variant with captain's chairs after a white-hat hacker found evidence of such a thing in Model Y firmware. As for the long-awaited cheaper Model Y, that was delayed in April, and thanks to a video from China, it seems that the automaker has been working quietly in the background. Don't worry if you don't speak Mandarin - Not A Tesla App reports what to expect. Several Changes Inside And Out At the front of the car, the front fascia and headlight assembly have been revised, with the lightbar apparently disappearing and the headlight on either side thereof moving upward, much like the pre-Juniper Model Y. The remarkably strong glass roof that has appeared on every Tesla to date is gone, and at the back, the reflectors in the tailgate are just that - no fancy five-foot lightbar like the current Model Y. Still, a front-facing camera indicates it'll have access to the same semi-autonomous driving features as other Teslas, so it won't be completely decontented. Inside, the multimedia experience will be slightly diminished; there is no rear infotainment display, and the A-pillars have lost their speakers. Also missing are coat hooks and a rear parcel shelf, while the center console has been updated to move phone chargers below the central touchscreen, where there is now a gap between the dash and center console. Finally, the seat bolsters glimpsed beneath the seat covers appear to have been finished in a textile rather than synthetic leather, as is the case with Mexico's Model 3 (the same material is likely for the headliner). Although unconfirmed at this stage, we can expect features like heated and ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel to disappear, too. "Just A Model Y," But It Could Help Turn Tesla's Fortunes Around View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Tesla recently released its Q2 earnings report for 2025, and the news was not good, with a sharp decline in profits and no promise of improvements from CEO Elon Musk, who said to expect a "few rough quarters." Still, although Musk says it's nothing special - "It's just a Model Y" - Tesla said volume production of "a more affordable model" would occur in the second half of the year, and that should help boost sales at least somewhat. This sighting confirms the car will be as cheap as possible, but whether it will cost much less than $40,000 remains to be seen. Without the $7,500 Federal Tax credit that expires at the end of September, the current cheapest Model Y (Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive) starts at $44,990, so Tesla may resort to further incentives in an effort to stave off ever-increasing rival competition amid weak growth in EV Affordable EV Is So Much Less Than "Just A Model Y" first appeared on Autoblog on Jul 29, 2025 This story was originally reported by Autoblog on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.
