Dubai authorities urge commuters to plan ahead amid peak travel rush
Dubai authorities urged commuters to plan their routes to their destination as the emirate enters one of its busiest travel periods.
According to a report by Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Dubai International Airport (DXB) expects to welcome over 2.5 million guests between February 20 and 28. That means they have to face an average of 280,000 passengers daily, with numbers peaking at over 295,000 on Saturday.
This surge in passenger traffic is driven by a combination of global events and school holidays across Dubai, making it one of the airport's busiest travel periods.
Other Dubai authorities, such as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police, also urged commuters to plan their travel routes.
'Top up your Nol Card balance before heading to the Gulfood 2025 aboard RTA's public transport, through the Nol Pay app, RTA website, or RTA Dubai app. You will need AED 15 for Silver Class and AED 30 for Gold Class, for a round trip,' RTA wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Gulfood 2025, the world's largest food and beverage sourcing event, taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre, where large crowds are expected. To avoid long queues in busy areas, it's best to top up your Nol card in advance, especially if you're traveling via Metro from the Deira area or other locations.

Dubai Police also urged commuters to plan their trips. 'Plan your route using navigation apps to avoid traffic congestion and optimize your journey,' it wrote on X.

Dubai will start trialling self-driving taxis later this year under a new partnership between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Uber Technologies and WeRide. The vehicles will be available via the Uber app and will initially operate with a safety driver on board. Dubai partially closes Emirates Road towards Sharjah and E311 for road work
Motorists in the UAE are advised to plan their journeys in advance as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced scheduled road works on two major routes this Sunday, June 15. These maintenance work will lead to temporary lane closures according to authorities, which could cause delays for commuters traveling towards Sharjah and on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. On Emirates Road towards Sharjah, three out of five lanes will be partially closed near the Maleha Street intersection. This closure will take place until 6pm, allowing road maintenance crews to carry out essential work. The RTA urged motorists to exercise caution, plan commute accordingly and consider alternate routes during this time. In addition, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will experience a partial closure at Exit 64, which leads to the Industrial Areas and Al Khan. This closure began earlier, at 12.30am, and is expected to continue until 10.30am. The works are part of scheduled infrastructure improvements in the area. Although the second closure is nearing its end, traffic congestion may still be present in the vicinity. Motorists are encouraged to remain patient and check real-time traffic updates through RTA channels and navigation apps. The RTA extends its thanks to the public for their understanding and cooperation during these essential upgrades, which are aimed at enhancing road safety and overall travel experience in the emirate.

Dubai Tram service partially suspended after Marina high-rise fire
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Saturday a temporary suspension of Dubai Tram service between Dubai Marina Station (No. 5) and Palm Jumeirah Station (No. 9), following a fire that broke out in a nearby high-rise building late Friday night. The disruption has been implemented as a precaution to ensure passenger safety and to facilitate post-fire operations. To support affected commuters, alternative bus services are running between the impacted stations. Tram service remains unaffected and continues to operate normally across the rest of the network. Service on the suspended section will resume once authorities confirm the track is safe.
