Jeremy Renner On Ex-Wife's ‘Clickbait' Threat Allegations: ‘It Hurts My Feelings'
Sonni Pacheco had accused Jeremy Renner of drug use and of leaving cocaine within reach of their child, Ava.
Jeremy Renner, widely known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, opened up about a turbulent period in his life involving his ex-wife, Sonni Pacheco. In a recent interview, the actor addressed the serious allegations that surfaced during their contentious divorce and custody battle in 2019.
Renner and Pacheco, 37, were married for just ten months before she filed for divorce in December 2014. During their custody battle, Pacheco alleged that Renner had threatened both her and himself, claiming, among other incidents, that he placed a gun in his mouth and fired into the ceiling while their daughter, Ava, was in another room, according to TMZ. She also accused him of drug use and of leaving cocaine within reach of their child. Renner has consistently denied all of the allegations, both at the time and in the years since.
'Whatever stress I've had in life, I've tried to find a way of laughing through it. And that's where sometimes cynicism comes out — you think, 'I'm just going to have a laugh at this stuff'," he said in an interview with The Guardian.
When asked to clarify what 'stuff," the 54-year-old actor responded, 'Being accused of things you've not done, right? That doesn't feel good to anybody. It certainly doesn't feel good when you're a celebrity and it's known to everybody."
Renner confirmed that he was speaking about Pacheco's allegations and insisted that there wasn't any truth to the public claims.
'No, and they happen all the time. It's all the salaciousness that happens out there. It's clickbait, and it hurts my feelings and it dehumanises people," he said.
Pacheco had filed for sole custody of their daughter, Ava, during the divorce proceedings. Despite the legal tensions, Renner said he was not overly concerned about the outcome. 'That's just lawyers talking. That's lawyers arguing. The custody was easy," he said. The former couple now share joint custody of Ava, who is currently 12 years old.
Renner said that his relationship with Pacheco has improved since their separation. He shared that they remain present in each other's lives in a positive way. 'Her mom and I get along very well, and we're in each other's lives. It's lovely," the 28 Weeks Later actor said.
Pacheco welcomed a daughter named Wylder with professional hockey player Nate Thompson in March 2023. Renner shared that she often sends him 'beautiful pictures" of the baby.
Renner further stated that he prefers to keep his private life away from the spotlight. He said that public speculation does not affect him the way it once might have. 'It doesn't matter to me what people say. They're saying it for their own reasons and not for the right reasons or the truth," he shared.
The Wind River star also shared that he does not engage with public commentary online, saying, 'I don't read people's reviews, I don't read people's comments. I don't care. That's not part of my life."
When asked if he is currently dating, Renner said he is not seeing anyone 'at the moment."

I understand it, and I was wrong then.' The lawyer emphasised that they would not be bonding on the obvious reason, instead they would connect on the fraternity of being tortured by the prosecution. About Diddy's conviction On June 2, 2025, the Bad Boy Records co-founder was convicted of two charges, while being acquitted of serious charges of racketeering and s*x trafficking.
