The first Wicked: For Good trailer promises an explosive finale
The first Wicked: For Good trailer promises an explosive finale Warning: There are Wicked: For Good spoilers in this story. We're less than six months away from the second installment of the Wicked film series with Wicked: For Good set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025. But fans of the movie musical series got an early look at the sequel — which is the second half of the Broadway musical — with a teaser Tuesday and then when the trailer dropped Wednesday. The trailer for Wicked: For Good — named after one of the second-half songs, "For Good," by Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) — highlights how the characters have grown from their school days and embraced their largely opposing roles in Oz. THE SONGS OF WICKED: Ranking every Wicked song from Part One - Where does Defying Gravity land? Scene clips and cinematography aside, their growth is visually represented and foreshadowed in the trailer as well, ranging from Elphaba, as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda The Good simply appearing older and more mature to Fiyero and Boq donning costumes hinting at their eventual fates to come. But the biggest transformation we see between Wicked and the Wicked: For Good trailer is from Nessarose, who becomes the governor of Munchkinland and, eventually, the Wicked Witch of the East. She looks completely different from the Nessarose we saw in Wicked with her hair pulled back and a harsher demeanor. Wicked: For Good is set to premiere November 21, 2025.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors If last year's "Wicked" taught us nothing else, it's that there's always more than one side to a story. Diving into the mythology of Oz and adapting the Broadway musical of the same name, "Wicked" earned itself millions of fans who will no doubt never see the story of "The Wizard of Oz" the same way. Read More: 'Wicked 2': What We Know About 2025 Sequel Just as anyone who's ever seen "The Wizard of Oz" knows the so-called wizard was never what he seemed, the so-called "Wicked" Witch of the West, Elphaba played by Cynthia Erivo proves to be a much more complicated character than the one from the 1939 classic. Now it's time to show the second part of the tale in "Wicked: For Good". The new trailer for the highly anticipated for the sequel just premiered. We have it here along with other information you need to know for the follow-up. L to R: Cynthia Erivo is Elphaba and Ariana Granda is Glinda in WICKED, directed by Jon M. Who is Playing Dorothy in 'Wicked: For Good'? So far, there's been no confirmation on exactly why will be playing Dorothy Gale in "Wicked: For Good", though so far most rumors point to Irish actress Alisha Weir. Per IMDb, the confirmed cast of the film includes: Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) Ariana Grande (Glinda) Jeff Goldblum (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz) Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible) Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero) Ethan Slater (Boq) Marissa Bode (Nessarose) Peter Dinklage (Voice of Dr. Dillamond) What Will 'Wicked: For Good' Be About? From "Wicked," we all know that Elphaba is not the force of evil that a surface reading of "The Wizard of Oz" would lead us to believe, but if Oz himself has anything to say about it, no one in his magical land will see her as anything but a villain. In fact, as Elphaba grows more powerful and fights for the liberation of the animals of Oz, the Wizard declares her an enemy of the state. All the while, assuming "Wicked: For Good" faithfully adapts the Broadway musical upon which it's based, things will build up to an emotional reunion between Elphaba and Glinda. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo sing 'For Good' in first 'Wicked: For Good' trailer Show Caption Hide Caption 'Wicked' star Cynthia Erivo arrives at SAG Awards 2025 red carpet "Wicked" star Cynthia Erivo said this moment is "everything and more" as she arrived at the SAG Awards red carpet. Entertain This! Good news, Ozians! It's almost time for "Wicked" to return from intermission. The first trailer for "Wicked: For Good," the highly anticipated follow-up to the blockbuster musical "Wicked," has debuted in conjunction with a theatrical rerelease of the original film. The footage teases the second half of the Broadway show, which picks up with the people of Oz living in fear of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) after she defied the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and was branded the Wicked Witch of the West. With "Wicked," director Jon M. Chu chose to split the story of the musical into two films, ending the first part just where the show takes an intermission. The sequel was originally known as "Wicked: Part Two" before being given the official title of "Wicked: For Good," a reference to the most famous song from the second half of the show. All of the main stars from the original "Wicked" will reprise their roles, including Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Marissa Bode as Nessarose and Ethan Slater as Boq. 'Wicked' review: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande are fantastic as witchy BFFs But unlike the first movie, "Wicked: For Good" will feature two new, original songs that were not in the stage show. Chu told Vanity Fair one of the new songs is for Elphaba, while the other is for Glinda. Erivo previously told Variety she worked with composer Stephen Schwartz on one of the new songs, teasing, "When we filmed it, the entire crew was in tears. I hope audiences are ready — it's a song that speaks to the heart of who Elphaba is." At CinemaCon in April, Grande teased that in "Wicked: For Good," Glinda has to "look at her reflection to figure out what it means to be Glinda the Good," while Erivo said Elphaba "has to learn how to use her powers for the betterment of good in exile." Producer Marc Platt also promised "more complexity and more profundity" in the two characters. The original "Wicked" grossed more than $750 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film based on a Broadway musical in history. It earned 10 Oscar nominations, including best picture, and won the Academy Awards for best costume design and production design. Are you holding space for 'Wicked'?
