Traditionally known for same-day or next-day deliveries, Amazon's foray into 10-minute logistics reflects a larger pivot to meet shifting consumer expectations and tap into the growing demand for near-instant service among urban shoppers.
Service goes live in western Delhi, national rollout expected
The company officially launched Amazon Now in Bengaluru in June and is now expanding it to a large section of western Delhi. A full-scale launch across the capital is expected soon.
Amazon Now promises 10-minute delivery for a range of daily essentials, including groceries, snacks, meat, personal care products, and fresh produce—mirroring the offerings of its quick commerce rivals.
₹2,000 crore investment to expand dark store network
Amazon aims to operate up to 300 dark stores across Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai by the end of 2025, according to The Economic Times. Rival Flipkart Minutes is targeting 800 such stores across India.
Quick commerce seen as key to India growth strategy
The launch of Amazon Now is part of the company's broader push in India, where it has already invested over $11 billion since 2013. In addition to its quick commerce efforts, Amazon recently opened five new fulfilment centres to support faster delivery in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

GitHub chief executive Thomas Dohmke is stepping down from the Microsoft-owned coding platform to start a new company, ending a leadership run marked by a strong push into artificial intelligence. Dohmke says he moved from Germany to the United States over ten years ago after selling his startup to Microsoft; he says the choice was fuelled by his entrepreneurial drive. Prior to becoming CEO, Dohmke was instrumental in Microsoft's $7.5 billion all-stock acquisition of GitHub in 2018, working closely with then-CEO Nat Friedman. During his time at the helm, GitHub expanded internationally, achieved US FedRAMP certification for government use, and saw the number of AI-related projects on its platform to the company's website, over 150 million developers around the world now use GitHub's tools to create, manage, and collaborate on software projects. The launch of its Copilot products, which assist programmers by generating code using AI, has been a major part of its recent has not yet commented on who will permanently replace Dohmke. His transition period will run until the end of the his farewell note, Dohmke reflected on his time leading GitHub and hinted at his passion for starting new ventures. 'My startup roots' were at the heart of his decision, he wrote, signalling a return to building from the ground up. "We only succeed when the world succeeds, too. Amazon invests ₹37 crores in water replenishment projects in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Mumbai
Amazon India announced on 11 August that it has invested more than ₹ 37 crores in water replenishment projects across India. These projects are expected to restore over 3 billion litres of water annually, benefiting people in water-stressed communities. The initiative spans across four major urban centres—Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi, and Mumbai—and supports Amazon's goal to return more water to communities than it uses in its direct operations in India by 2027, the company said. 'Water security represents one of India's most pressing environmental challenges, requiring collaborative solutions across sectors,' said Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations, Amazon India and Australia, in a statement. 'Through strategic investments in both urban and rural watersheds, we're not only addressing immediate water access issues but also building long-term resilience for communities where we operate. Each project is designed to support agricultural livelihoods, enhancing biodiversity, and securing urban water supplies,' he said. Amazon's water portfolio includes the restoration of Yamare Lake near Bengaluru and Sai Reddy Lake near Hyderabad, in collaboration with SayTrees. Together, these lakes are expected to replenish over 570 million litres annually. In New Delhi, the company is working with Hasten Regeneration on a Yamuna River watershed project that is expected to add another 400 million litres of annual replenishment capacity. In July, Amazon launched its first-ever water replenishment project in the Yamuna River watershed to tackle water scarcity and over-extraction of groundwater in the national capital This project is part of Amazon's water conservation initiatives running across India. These initiatives have included major lake restoration efforts and community water solutions benefiting over 1 million people since 2020, the firm said in a statement. These initiatives employ solutions like desilting, repairing bund formations, restoring inlet/outlet structures, and constructing percolation pits to maximise water replenishment. Amazon also announced its latest water investment—a ₹ 10 crore project in Maharashtra's Vaitarna hydrobasin that will replenish 1.3 billion litres annually when completed in 2027. Developed with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), this initiative spans communities upstream of Mumbai, implementing rainwater harvesting structures, field bunding, and improved drainage networks that are expected to benefit 700 farming families while supporting water security for Mumbai's metropolitan region. These water replenishment initiatives align with Amazon's broader sustainability commitments, including its goal to reach net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040 as a co-founder of The Climate Pledge. Water security represents one of India's most pressing environmental challenges, requiring collaborative solutions across sectors. "It is with immense pleasure that I welcome the initiative to replenish the Vaitarna River. Enhancing climate resilience in water-stressed communities is a key priority for the Maharashtra Government,' Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, was quoted as saying in the statement. Similarly, AWS has implemented significant water projects across India, including groundwater recharge and rainwater harvesting initiatives with WaterAid in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh, which are expected to supply 640 million litres of water annually.
