Preacher detained on suspicion of teaching without accreditation
JAINJ director Nasri Md Ali said the department's Enforcement Division, assisted by the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters, detained the local man at 8.30 pm to facilitate investigations under Section 11 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997 for teaching religion without proper accreditation.
'The preacher delivered his sermon to a congregation and streamed it live on social media. The house, which belongs to another individual, had been used as a venue for daily religious lectures after Maghrib and Subuh prayers.
'At the time of the arrest, several individuals were listening to his lecture at the house, and the session was being livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube, but the video has since been deleted,' he said when contacted today.
He elaborated that a complaint regarding the preacher had been raised during a council meeting earlier this month, and JAINJ was instructed to take action.
'According to records, the preacher was previously detained in 2016 for the same offence. In 2020, the department conducted another raid, but he managed to escape.
'We hope that anyone intending to deliver religious talks in Johor will first obtain proper accreditation from the Johor Islamic Religious Council,' he added.

DBKL removes 18 illegally parked m-cycles at Bangsar LRT station
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) removed 18 parked motorcycles that obstructed pedestrian walkways and disabled facilities near the Bangsar Light Rail Transit (LRT) station. In a statement today, City Hall said it acted on public complaints on illegally parked vehicles and would continue periodic enforcement. "In the latest enforcement exercise, 18 motorcycles were towed to DBKL's vehicle impound depot in Jalan Pahang for further action, including issuing compounds. "DBKL issued 70 compounds for various traffic offences during the operation," it said in a Facebook post. City Hall reminded road users, especially motorcyclists, to obey traffic rules and to ensure their vehicles were parked properly without obstructing pedestrians or traffic flow.

'Bring it on!' Asyraf Wajdi tells parents planning to sue over MRSM expulsions
KUALA LUMPUR: Several parents of students expelled from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) over bullying cases are planning to take legal action against Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) and its chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. The matter was revealed by Asyraf in a Facebook post today. "I have been informed that some parents, whose children were expelled from MRSM due to bullying cases, are planning to sue me and Mara. "I say, 'Bring it on!' My priority is to protect the safety of the majority of students, not a handful who act like thugs. #YouTouchYouGo." The post has since drawn attention online, with many netizens voicing support for Mara and Asyraf's firm stance against bullying in its institutions. User Fathiah Ab Rauf said: "If that's the kind of upbringing at home, it's no surprise the child ended up the way they did and was expelled. "Good parenting doesn't mean justifying, agreeing with, or defending everything a child does. "Wrong is still wrong - correct them with discipline. It was reported that another six MRSM students in Melaka were expelled with immediate effect after being found involved in a bullying incident.
