India's mounting injury woes ahead of 4th Test: From Nitish Reddy blow to Rishabh Pant worry
After suffering a side-strain during the white-ball series against England at home, Nitish spent a considerable time at the NCA before being cleared to feature in the IPL. But he bowled just 30 deliveries in the entire edition before heading to England. After playing the two India A games, he played the previous two Tests before suffering an injury to his ligament on Sunday that is set to cut short his tour.
The left-arm pacer was in contention to get a look-in towards the business end of the series, but a cut on his bowling hand during a net session has ruled him out at least for the fourth Test. The selectors have sent Anshul Kamboj, who impressed during the A series before the Test tour, as a cover and he is now in the mix as well.
After an impressive show at Edgbaston, the Bengal seamer was seen struggling at Lord's. It is understood that Akash is grappling with a groin niggle which makes him an unlikely starter in Manchester. With uncertainty around Bumrah for the fifth Test, India are keeping their fingers crossed on Akash's quick recovery. If not, they may have to send an SOS to selectors again.
Since he came back into the fold after the horrific accident, the team management and selectors have kept an eye on his workload. The priority has been to make him play Tests and heading to Old Trafford, it would be interesting to see if Pant starts as a wicketkeeper or as a specialist batsman. He suffered a hand injury, which made Dhruv Jurel keep wickets in the third Test. While scans have showed no major worries, it remains a concern for India.

Speaking on Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube show Kutti Stories with Ash, Harbhajan said if there's one thing he could change in his life, it would be that moment. The IPL 2008 slapping incident remains one of the most controversial moments in Indian cricket. Harbhajan, who was captaining Mumbai Indians in the absence of regular skipper Sachin Tendulkar, had a heated altercation with Punjab Kings (formerly King XI Punjab) pacer Sreesanth and ended up slapping him. Harbhajan was banned for the remainder of the IPL season due to the controversy. 'One thing I'd want to change in my life is that incident with Sreesanth. It was wrong, and I shouldn't have done it. I have apologised hundreds of times. Even years after it, I keep saying sorry whenever I get a chance. It was a mistake,' Harbhajan said. 'I met his daughter and spoke to her with love, but she said, 'I don't want to talk to you. You hit my father.' My heart was shattered, and I was on the verge of tears. I kept thinking what impression I left on her. She must see me only as the person who hit her father. I still feel bad about it and apologise to her,' Harbhajan added. When Ashwin debuted in 2011, Harbhajan was already an established senior bowler, but Ashwin soon became India's leading spinner. 'This whole jealousy bit, before I allow you to answer that, let me clarify something. People look at everything from their perspective. For example, if they are passing a comment on me, they believe that others would see the world through their eyes," Ashwin said. 'Their comments that you (Harbhajan) are jealous of this person who is interviewing you today (Ashwin), what would that be about, Bhajji pa?' Ashwin asked further. We are sitting here today and talking openly. I am not that kind of person. I would never be jealous of my own teammates.' 'Even if you were jealous at one point in time, I think it's justified. That is my point, and I will never take it wrong because we are all human. Naturally, it is bound to be like that. Some people believe I retired because Washington Sundar has come. All of this is the perspective of others,' Ashwin said.

Sun TV acquisition of Northern Superchargers: A strategic analysis
CHENNAI: Sun TV's acquisition of the Northern Superchargers is a strategic move that strengthens its growing portfolio in the sports and entertainment space, creating synergies across brand identity, media rights, and cricket operations, according to analysts tracking India's media, entertainment and sports industry. Sun TV Network, through its parent company Sun Group, has acquired full ownership of the Northern Superchargers, a franchise in England's The Hundred cricket league, for approximately £100 million (around ₹1,050 crore). The acquisition includes both Yorkshire County Cricket Club's 51% stake and the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) 49% share. This marks Sun Group's third major franchise investment after Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa's SA20 league. 'It represents a bold step toward establishing a unified global presence in the evolving world of T20 franchise cricket, while also offering financial and structural support to English domestic cricket,' said a senior analyst at a foreign brokerage firm, speaking to The New Indian Express. The move further strengthens Sun Group's 'Sunrisers' brand across key geographies and formats, enabling a cohesive global identity across India, South Africa, and the UK, the analyst added, requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to speak on specific clients. As one of India's leading broadcasters, Sun TV can also leverage this acquisition to develop exclusive sports content, enhance digital streaming opportunities, and monetise media rights across three major cricket markets. This cross-league presence enhances the brand's appeal to sponsors and advertisers, noted a senior sports analyst. With franchises in three premier leagues, Sun Group now has the opportunity to develop a global talent ecosystem—rotating players, coaches, and support staff across teams, while standardising scouting systems and performance analytics, said a well-known commentator and analyst with a leading sports network. According to industry reports, Sun TV Network becomes the first IPL franchise owner to fully acquire a team in The Hundred. The move reflects a growing trend of IPL stakeholders expanding their footprint across global T20 and franchise-based leagues, including SA20, Major League Cricket (USA), ILT20 (UAE), and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The acquisition also signals rising Indian influence in global cricket and sets a precedent for deeper international integration of franchise ecosystems. From an operational standpoint, the acquisition offers the potential for strong synergies. Centralising back-end functions such as marketing, logistics, and data analytics across franchises can help reduce costs and improve coordination. Sun's operational expertise from managing IPL and SA20 teams could also be applied to optimise performance in The Hundred. However, the integration is not without challenges. Merging an IPL-style franchise model with the UK's distinct cricketing traditions and regulatory framework may present both operational and perception-related hurdles. Balancing the local identity of the Northern Superchargers with the broader Sunrisers brand will require careful messaging and engagement with English fans. Moreover, with a significant investment of £100 million, achieving long-term returns will depend on factors such as on-field performance, market expansion, and successful monetisation of media and sponsorship opportunities. The deal is subject to final approvals and must navigate regulatory scrutiny from the ECB as well as international sports governance norms.

India suffer double blow: Nitish ruled out of ENG series, Arshdeep out of Manchester Test
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed that all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the India vs England series. The board also announced that pacer Arshdeep Singh is out of contention for the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. BCCI stated that Reddy has suffered an injury to his left knee and will return home to begin his recovery. While the board did not specify how the injury occurred, reports suggest the all-rounder hurt himself during a gym session on Sunday. Earlier, Reddy had also sustained an injury during the white-ball series against England at home and underwent treatment at the NCA before being cleared to feature in the IPL. The all-rounder bowled just 30 deliveries in the IPL and played in the middle order for Sunrisers Hyderabad. During the England tour, however, Reddy emerged as a key player for India, taking crucial wickets in both innings of the Lord's Test. He also played gritty knocks in both innings but fell short of converting them into big scores. Arshdeep has been officially ruled out of the Manchester Test match owing to an injury to his left thumb sustained while bowling in the nets at Beckenham. 'The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.' the Indian board stated in its release. Meanwhile, pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to the Indian squad ahead of the fourth Test match and has also joined the team in Manchester.
