Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has once again opened up about the infamous IPL 2008 slapgate incident with Sreesanth. Speaking on Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube show Kutti Stories with Ash, Harbhajan said if there's one thing he could change in his life, it would be that moment.
The IPL 2008 slapping incident remains one of the most controversial moments in Indian cricket. Harbhajan, who was captaining Mumbai Indians in the absence of regular skipper Sachin Tendulkar, had a heated altercation with Punjab Kings (formerly King XI Punjab) pacer Sreesanth and ended up slapping him.

When asked about this infamous scandal during the talk show with , Harbhajan said that it remains his biggest mistake to date and also shared an emotional story involving Sreesanth's daughter. Harbhajan was banned for the remainder of the IPL season due to the controversy.
'One thing I'd want to change in my life is that incident with Sreesanth. It was wrong, and I shouldn't have done it. I have apologised hundreds of times. Even years after it, I keep saying sorry whenever I get a chance. It was a mistake,' Harbhajan said.
'I met his daughter and spoke to her with love, but she said, 'I don't want to talk to you. You hit my father.' My heart was shattered, and I was on the verge of tears. I kept thinking what impression I left on her. She must see me only as the person who hit her father. I still feel bad about it and apologise to her,' Harbhajan added.

Harbhajan also addressed rumours about him being jealous of Ashwin, who had emerged as India's next big spinner during the latter stages of his career. When Ashwin debuted in 2011, Harbhajan was already an established senior bowler, but Ashwin soon became India's leading spinner.
'This whole jealousy bit, before I allow you to answer that, let me clarify something. People look at everything from their perspective. For example, if they are passing a comment on me, they believe that others would see the world through their eyes," Ashwin said.
'Their comments that you (Harbhajan) are jealous of this person who is interviewing you today (Ashwin), what would that be about, Bhajji pa?' Ashwin asked further.

Harbhajan replied, 'Do you think I am jealous of you? We are sitting here today and talking openly. I am not that kind of person. I would never be jealous of my own teammates.'
'Even if you were jealous at one point in time, I think it's justified. That is my point, and I will never take it wrong because we are all human. Naturally, it is bound to be like that. Some people believe I retired because Washington Sundar has come. All of this is the perspective of others,' Ashwin said.

Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team event: India go down fighting

CHENNAI: India's junior badminton team put up a strong fight before going down 110-104 to former champions Japan in the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships in Solo, Indonesia. According to Badminton Association of India release, in a closely contested tie under the relay scoring system, India came out strong after a narrow 11-9 loss in the opening match. The boys' doubles duo of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu got India on the board, followed by a composed win from the girls' pair of Vennala Kalagotla and Reshika Uthayasooriyan to put India ahead 33-26. Reshika then combined with Bhavya Chhabra to maintain the lead at 44-35, and Rounak Chouhan extended the cushion with another solid performance. India led for a major part of the tie, but Japan, the 2023 champions, pulled ahead in the final stretch, winning the last five matches in a row. Several of those games went down to the wire, reflecting the grit of the Indian squad. Despite the narrow exit, India had a strong tournament. They topped Group D with wins over Hong Kong China, the United Arab Emirates, and Sri Lanka, showing depth and balance across singles and doubles. The Bhargav-Viswa Tej and Reshika-Vennala pairings were consistently impressive, while C Lalramsanga also stood out in his doubles outings, paired up with Bhavya for men's doubles and Taarini Suri for the mixed doubles. In singles, Rounak upset world junior No. 5 Lam Ka To, and Rujula Ramu registered wins over two top-20 players. The focus now shifts to the individual championships starting July 23. SOURCE: BAI

Bumrah will play, confirms Siraj ahead of Manchester Test

MANCHESTER: India pacer Mohammed Siraj on Monday confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will play the Manchester Test starting Wednesday. On being asked about the speedster's availability for the match, Siraj said, "Jassi Bhai will play now." Speaking further on the subject, he said, "But as the combination is changing day by day, we have only one plan that we should win. We try to bowl in good areas and that has made England play with a lot of patience in the last match. So we felt good." Like other teams, India too have been resting their pacers as a part of workload management. However, Siraj has been playing Test matches continuously for the past few years. Incidentally, he has bowled the most overs among the Indian bowlers in the ongoing series. He credited almighty for his fitness and said his mindset is to win matches for the country. "My only mindset is that if I am getting the opportunity, I should use it well and win matches for my country and perform well. So this is the only mindset that I should play as many matches as possible for the country." He said the biggest motivation for him is representing the country and helping it win the matches. "There is no secret of my energy on the field. When you play for the country, the biggest motivation is that you are representing the country. So the biggest source of energy is that when I play for the country, then I want to give my 100 per cent so that when I go to sleep, I shouldn't feel that I missed this, and I should have done this. I shouldn't have any regrets. Whatever result comes, I have only one plan that I should give my 100 per cent." He, however, did not give any insight on the combination the team management is looking at for the contest. He also applauded England captain Ben Stokes and appreciated the way he bowled a couple of long spells in the Lord's Test, which India lost by 22 runs.
