The Chase star Mark Labbett 'wants contract changed' after gruelling filming schedule

Daily Mirror11 hours ago
The Chase star Mark Labbett has revealed that following his stint on Celebs Go Dating and the gruelling hours, there's one thing he's going to change in his TV contracts.
Mark Labbett has revealed that he got 'frustrated' on the set of Celebs Go Dating amid the show's long filming hours, leading to him apologising to his co-stars for bursts of anger on set.

The Chase star told Mirror that despite having spent 16 years on television, he found himself struggling with the demands of filming reality TV, which is much less structured than the quiz show he's used to. "I'm used to being in a pre-planned environment on The Chase, where timings are strict, but reality TV can go on for longer and the days end up ending later than you think," he explains.

"For me, the one thing I found was that you need a social battery recharge, and as someone on the spectrum, that's something I really need," continues Mark. He previously shared that he believes he is on the autism spectrum but hasn't had a confirmed diagnosis. It comes after filming for the show was halted as Mark was hit on a health scare on set.

Admitting that the long hours got the better of him, the trivia whiz - who is also known as The Beast - continues, "I got quite grumpy on set. I did apologise to everyone, but, in the future, I'd definitely have it in my contract that I need breaks to have a nap and recharge."

"I'm very used to doing The Chase where it runs like clockwork, but coming into a location-based reality show where timing is a lot more flexible, like I said, I got moody. I'm also diabetic, so, I wear a glucose monitor and on one of the nights, my glucose level went off the scale," says Mark, as his co-star Kerry Katona interjects, "And Mark went off the scale too!"
"Yeah, I did. And I did apologise to everyone afterwards, but, I realised that maybe that's happening in my personal life also - when I can lose it a little. So, that was a learning curve."
The couple split in May 2024, just a week after celebrating their one year anniversary. P rior to his relationship with Hayley, Mark was married for seven years to Katie Labbett, and shares son Lawrence, who was born in 2018, with her. The former couple, who discovered they are second cousins years into the relationship, parted ways in 2020.

The Chase star Mark Labbett apologises for his 'bursts of anger' on Celebs Go Dating - as quizzer admits he 'got quite grumpy on set'

The Chase's Mark Labbett has apologised for experiencing 'bursts of anger' while looking for love on Celebs Go Dating. The professional quizzer, 59, admitted that the filming schedule of reality TV was drastically different from what he is used to and as a result, he lost his temper on set. He told The Mirror: 'I'm used to being in a pre-planned environment on The Chase, where timings are strict, but reality TV can go on for longer and the days end up ending later than you think.' Mark, who has publicly stated that he believes he is on the autism spectrum but not been diagnosed, said his mental health suffered on the show. The star added: 'For me, the one thing I found was that you need a social battery recharge, and as someone on the spectrum, that's something I really need.' He also revealed that his suspected neurodivergence has impacted his dating life as he finds people hard to read. Mark now plans to take the lessons he has learned from filming the show into any future contracts to ensure he does not act in an unbecoming manner again. He said: 'I got quite grumpy on set. I did apologise to everyone, but, in the future, I'd definitely have it in my contract that I need breaks to have a nap and recharge.' As well as admitting that he got moody on set, he also explained that he was impacted by his diabetes. He revealed: 'I wear a glucose monitor and on one of the nights, my glucose level went off the scale.' This prompted his co-star Kerry Katona to joke: 'And Mark went off the scale too!' Even though the show was a 'learning curve' for the star, he said that he is still looking forward to its release. Mark's grumpiness was not the only issue he faced in his latest attempt to find love and he also had a health scare on the set of Celebs Go Dating, which temporarily halted filming. The presenter suffered what's known as a hypoglycaemic attack - an event caused by a person's blood sugar dropping too low, resulting in symptoms like shaking and sweating. Mark (pictured on the far left) said that even though Celebs Go Dating was a 'learning curve' for the star, he is looking forward to its release Recalling the moment, Mark said: 'One night, I had a hypoglycaemic attack. 'I might have been a bit grumpy that night. I apologised to everyone after.' Mark was previously in a relationship with TV presenter Hayley Palmer, 43, but the pair split a week after their first anniversary last year. It was Mark who decided to leave the relationship, blindsiding Hayley when he ended their romance over the phone. The Chase presenter later put his reasoning down to their 16-year age gap and stressed to The Sun that he was 'very lucky' to have dated her for a year. Prior to this, he was married to Katie Lawrence, 32, who was 27 years his junior. The couple were together for seven years and share one child, a son, but parted ways in 2020, with their age gap once again cited as a contributing factor in the split.

Love Island's Olivia Hawkins casts doubt on finalists' future outside the villa

EXCLUSIVE: Love Island winter 2023 bombshell Olivia Hawkins has given her verdict on the show's summer 2023 season, admitting she's 'been on the edge of her seat' Former Love Island bombshell Olivia Hawkins, who made her mark on the winter 2023 series, has given her verdict on this year's whirlwind of a season – and she's not holding back. ‌ Olivia didn't mince her words when asked about the current finalists, saying: 'I think it's been one of the most dramatic Love Island seasons I've ever watched. I've been on the edge of my seat, that's for sure, but I've thoroughly enjoyed it." ‌ "It's just a shame that there's no couple in the final that I think will last on the outside.' It comes after David Beckham ditches his iconic tiny trunks on yacht trip with Gordon Ramsay's family. ‌ READ MORE: Love Island's Tommy and Ben admit to kissing same girl at event as identity rumbled Reacting to the previous night's dumping, Olivia, speaking exclusively in association with Mecca Bingo, Olivia reflected on a summer packed with shocks, twists, and a finale that left fans split and admitted she felt conflicted by the outcome. 'Yes and no, I was very split. I agreed with some of their decisions, but I disagreed with some of the reasoning. I don't know how the only boyfriend and girlfriend couple could be in that position; they're just going to have to prove everyone wrong on the outside. I hope they do.' ‌ Olivia also defended Megan and Dejon, whose relationship has sparked fierce debate online. 'It was really 50/50. The people who spent the most time with Megan and Dejon obviously saw their connection. And yeah, they argue, but don't all couples? Just because the other couples aren't arguing doesn't mean they're compatible.' After returning for All Stars earlier this year, Olivia has firmly ruled out another appearance. 'It's a big no. I feel like I've done dating shows now and want to move on to the next thing. But I'll definitely still tune in.' ‌ All Stars has been confirmed to return to ITV2 and ITVX for a third series in 2026. The news comes hot on the heels of the finale of the 12th series, which was dubbed 'TV gold' by fans who hailed it 'iconic' with its summer of jaw-dropping twists and turns. Her love life is also heading in a new direction. 'It's good. I've got Celebs Go Dating coming out a week today, so people will get an update on how it's going. I can't give too much away, but I'm in a very happy place.' When it comes to keeping the show fresh, Olivia believes it's time for some tweaks. 'I liked that there were a lot of bombshells this season; it kept people guessing, but I think the format needs some changes. Maybe they could take inspiration from the USA version.' ‌ And there's one challenge in particular she's keen to bring back. 'More challenges would help. I miss the Twitter challenge, even though I hate Twitter. It's so toxic, but I loved that challenge. Bringing it back might not be great for Islanders' mental health, though.' Tonight, viewers will see either Toni and Cach, Yasmin and Jamie, Shakira and Harry or Ty and Angel take home the crown as the 12th series concludes.

Love Island winners revealed as Cach and Toni in close final

Cach and Toni have been revealed as the winners of Love Island 2025 after several weeks in the Spanish villa, and they have taken home the £50,000 prize over their fellow finalists Cach Mercer and Toni Laites have been revealed as the winners of Love Island 2025. The ITV2 reality show wrapped up its twelfth series on Monday night and viewers watched as the happy couple both looked shocked when it was declared that they had emerged victorious, and would be walking off with the £50,000 prize. ‌ The pair managed to win over the public, beating off competition from fellow finalists Angel Swift and Ty Isherwood, Harry Cooksley and Shakira Khan and Yasmin Pettett and Jamie Rhodes. Immediately after the big win was announced, the couple were greeted by their fellow Islanders as they rushed to congratulate them. ‌ Host Maya Jama announced their victory live on air. It comes after one Mirror writer claimed 'the new Bonnie Blue documentary may be the worst thing I've ever seen on Channel 4'. ‌ The pair looked shocked upon learning of their big win, and when Maya asked US native Toni if she had any words for the British public, she held back tears and screamed: "Yeah, I love you guys!" Viewers were quick to flood social media with their reactions, with one writing: "There you have winners Congratulations to Cach and Toni our American princess took the crown and our handsome and most gentleman we have this year." Another said: "They went from strangers to soulmates," and embellished their comment with a tears emoji and a red heart, whilst a third said: "Toni and Cach are such a deserving couple. Cach taught Toni the bare minimum she should expect in treatment from a man and Toni taught Cach that pride can sometimes stop you getting what you want. I'm here for it." Cach and Toni first laid eyes on each other during Casa Amor and although they struck up an instant connection, it was obvious Toni's heart was still with Harrison. Harrison however, had shared kisses with Helena in the main villa, leaving Toni with no option to explore, adamant Harrison would be doing the same. Of course, he did as he returned to the main villa with Lauren. The pair were glued to each other's hips, but Harrison continued to have flirty conversations with Toni. Harrison then persuaded Toni to couple up with him at the next recoupling, leaving Cach in tears in scenes that moved the nation. However, when Lauren was dumped from the villa, Harrison told his fellow Islanders that he saw himself being in a relationship with Lauren on the outside. ‌ As Harrison made his exit, Cach found it in his heart to forgive Toni, despite trying to get to know Billykiss at the same time. However, it looked like his family made need a little bit more convincing. Cut to the final week, and the couple couldn't have been happier despite all the tests and challenges thrown at them with Cach even telling (not asking) Toni to become exclusive with him. Although the pair reside across the Atlantic from each other, Toni has made it clear that she has no problems moving to London. During the final, the four finalists got all dressed up for one final meal together, and eventual runners-up Harry and Shakira reflected on their journey as a couple together throughout the series. She told him: "Doing this experience without you and watching things unfold was so hard because I felt so strongly towards you. You're everything I could possibly want in a partner. It's been an amazing last week and I'm excited for the future." Prior to coupling up with Shakira, Harry had a l ong-standing romance with Helena Ford and then his ex-girlfriend Emma Munro made a shock entrance to the villa before leaving in the weeks leading up to the final. Shakira was initially coupled up with Harry in the early weeks of the competition, but they got together again just days ahead of the final and he told her: "I came in here and thought it would be a lot of fun. Finding you in a Villa in Mallorca was not on my bingo card this summer. I do regret taking too long to tell you how I felt. We both know this is more than surface level - I think it always has been for me."
