Brits are 'drinking Baby Guinness wrong' as hidden meaning is revealed
Many people enjoy a cheeky baby Guinness as it's a easy to drink, full of flavour drink - but the drink was made for a specific reason and many Brit's don't know. People are only just realising the true meaning behind the popular shot Baby Guinness. It's the cheeky little 'pint' that's popped up on countless birthdays, bar crawls and bottomless brunches but the viral Baby Guinness shot actually has a much sweeter backstory than most people realise. The miniature drink, made with coffee liqueur and Irish cream to look like a pint of stout, has seen a huge surge in popularity online. There are now more than 41,000 monthly searches for it, and it's even been named in the UK's top 50 cocktails despite technically being a shot. It comes after a mum claimed 'I accidentally named baby after dog food brand and I don't know what to do'. But according to Jonathan Sitson, founder of cream chargers supplier Quick Whip, it wasn't dreamed up for Instagram. 'It looks cheeky and fun, but it began as a very low-key toast to new life,' says Jonathan. "It was originally served to new and expectant fathers at a pub near one of Dublin's maternity hospitals. It was the perfect way to toast a new arrival alongside a full-sized pint of the stout." The drink is believed to date back to the late 1980s, in a now-closed Dublin pub called The Waxies' Dargle, near the Rotunda Hospital. As the story goes, publican Stephen Daly created it for new dads a shot of dark coffee liqueur topped with Irish cream, made to resemble a celebratory pint in miniature. Even though there's no stout in it at all, Daly affectionately named it the 'Baby Guinness'. The tradition quickly caught on, with hospital staff recommending it to fathers-to-be as a light-hearted way to mark the occasion. How to make a Baby Guinness at home Despite its pub origins, you only need two ingredients and a steady hand: 25ml coffee liqueur (like Tia Maria or Kahlua) 12.5ml Irish cream (like Baileys) Chilled shot glass and a bar spoon Pour the coffee liqueur into the shot glass, then slowly layer the Irish cream on top by pouring it over the back of a spoon until it looks like a perfect little pint. 'The trick is to chill your liqueurs in advance and pour the cream very slowly,' Jonathan adds. 'A curved bar spoon makes all the difference.

Kneecap apology to fans as Vienna concert cancelled due to ‘safety concerns'
It comes after the group were banned from entering Hungary in July ahead of their scheduled performance at Sziget Festival on August 11. The group, known for their provocative lyrics and championing of the Irish language, have had several shows cancelled in recent months, including TRNSMT festival in Glasgow and at the Eden Project in Cornwall. They have said there is a smear campaign against them because of their support for Palestine and criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza. In a social media post on Friday the group said: 'Our planned show in Vienna on September 1st is cancelled.' The social media post added: 'To the 3500 people we were looking forward to seeing at our first headline show in Vienna, we are sorry: this is out of our hands. 'All tickets will be refunded. 'Yet again, it is clear that this is political distraction and a further attempt to silence those who call out genocide against the Palestinian people. 'But as always, we will fight on for what is right.' A note on the venues website said: 'Racoon Live Entertainment GmbH hereby cancels the planned Kneecap show on September 1, 2025, at the Gasometer Vienna due to acute safety concerns raised by the responsible authorities.' Kneecap, comprised of Liam Og O hAnnaidh, Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh, were formed in Belfast and released their first single in 2017. They hit headlines in April when footage emerged that appeared to show a band member saying 'Kill your local MP' at one gig and and 'Up Hamas, up Hezbollah' at another. In May, O hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terrorism offence relating to allegedly displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah at a London gig in November 2024. O hAnnaidh and his bandmates were cheered by hundreds of supporters when they arrived at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 18. Musicians including Nadine Shah and Gurriers have said they will attend court to support the group when O hAnnaidh returns on August 20. Kneecap have apologised to the families of murdered MPs and said they have 'never supported' Hamas or Hezbollah, which are banned in the UK. They were also investigated over their set at Glastonbury Festival in June, but Avon and Somerset Police said they would be taking no further action in July.

Lizzo flaunts her shrinking figure in activewear... after poking fun at Sydney Sweeney controversy
Lizzo showcased the results of her stunning weight loss on Instagram on Friday to share an announcement about her loungewear range Yitty. The 37-year-old rapper and singer — who recently referenced Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle campaign — appeared in a brief reel as she modeled mint-green biker shorts and a white zip-up track jacket. She was cheerful and bubbly as she told her nearly 12 million followers to 'get into this Yitty activewear!' 'If you want Yitty activewear, you can now get it at Walmart!' she added. She then declared, 'Yitty Active is everywhere!' The About Damn Time hitmaker sported a waist-length platinum-blond wig in the clip, and she looked beautiful in a full face of glamorous makeup. Lizzo was also wearing her unmissable diamond-encrusted Yitty chain and pendant. She recorded the short advert outside of a sprawling mansion, collecting thousands of likes. One day earlier the musician was also active on the social media app as she wore a two-piece gray set from her shapewear brand while snapping a mirror selfie in a luxe bathroom. Lizzo co-created the intimates line in partnership with Fabletics in April 2022. Earlier this week, the singer–songwriter name-dropped actress Sydney Sweeney, 27, in the lyrics of an unreleased rap song. She teased the track in a provocative video snippet in which she wore a denim jacket and matching shorts. It came on the heels of the Euphoria star's controversial American Eagle ad, which featured the slogan 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.' The campaign, which detractors accused of being inspired by eugenics, has come under fire for its perceived racial undertone. Earlier this week, the singer-songwriter name-dropped actress Sydney Sweeney, 27, in the lyrics of an unreleased rap song. It came on the heels of the Euphoria star's controversial American Eagle ad with the slogan 'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' One of multiple short-form pieces of content shared by Sydney and the clothing brand shows the blonde siren working on a car while dressed in a white tank top and jeans. Meanwhile, Lizzo's video outtake showed her washing and peering under the hood of a red sports car. She rapped in one line of the unreleased hip-hop track, 'Fat a**, pretty face with the t*tties. B*tch, I got good jeans like I'm Sydney.' The post was captioned, 'IM GOIN IN TILL OCTOBER.'
