Sir Rod Stewart promises ‘sexy' show for Glastonbury

Leader Live17-06-2025
The Scottish singer, who will take to the Pyramid stage for the coveted Sunday tea-time legends slot later this month, also revealed his appearance will cost him financially, but said it 'doesn't matter'.
Sir Rod told the Radio Times that as he has been carrying out a concert residency in Las Vegas, he will have to pay to ship all his equipment back to the UK for the festival.
'It's going to cost me £300,000 to do it and they only pay you about 120,000 quid,' he said.
Sir Rod, who has already revealed that his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood will join him on stage, said he will have three different guests coming on, plus an orchestra.
'I'm really looking forward to it,' he added.
'And it is a different gig. It's like when you're playing a cup final: you're trying to treat it like another game. But, of course, it's not. It's special.
'It'll be glamorous, it'll be sexy.
'And we've got a little orchestra coming on to play with us.
'And we may have some bagpipes…'
Earlier this month, Sir Rod announced that he had cancelled or postponed a number of his US concerts after suffering from flu.
'I have to cancel and reschedule my next six concerts in June as I continue to recover from the flu,' he wrote on Instagram.
'So sorry my friends.
'I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans.
'I'll be back on stage and will see you soon.'
Sir Rod will take to the Pyramid stage on Sunday June 29.
The 80-year-old has previously said he was only due to play for an hour and a quarter, but has begged to be allowed to play for an extra 15 minutes so he can fit more songs into his set.
In 2024 he promised he would not retire but confirmed his 2025 European and North American shows would bring an end to his 'large-scale world tours'.
Sir Rod's best known solo songs include Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?, Every Beat Of My Heart, and Maggie May.
Last month he was presented with a prestigious lifetime achievement award by five of his children at the American Music Awards (AMAs).

Irvine Welsh: Edinburgh Festival is great but I'm more excited about Hibs

The 66-year-old Trainspotting writer has returned to the Scottish capital for the premiere of his documentary, Reality Is Not Enough, which will close the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Directed by Paul Sng, the immersive documentary is said to be a thrilling and revealing exploration of Welsh, following his huge success with several film adaptations and six million books sold worldwide, and his awareness of mortality. In it, Welsh, who appears on screen, embarks on a wild journey into the boundaries of consciousness. He undergoes psychedelic-enhanced therapy and reflects on how intoxication can open up new perspectives. 'There's an upside to drug-taking, because there's a real exploratory, consciousness-raising aspect to it, as well as a sense of bonding with others in a festival-type environment,' Welsh told the PA news agency. 'But there's also a very negative side to it, a side that's about running away from things.' The film also explores how Welsh's creativity was shaped by his childhood in Edinburgh, the influences he absorbed from London's 1970s counterculture, and how ground breaking works such as Trainspotting and Filth helped pull him out of a self-destructive cycle. The autobiographical film combines intimate observational footage, rare archive film clips and readings from his novels narrated by stars Liam Neeson, Maxine Peake, Ruth Negga and Stephen Graham, and musician Nick Cave. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 📢 #EIFF25 will close with the World Premiere of documentary 'Reality Is Not Enough.' Director Paul Sng follows one of the most controversial writers of our times, Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, as he explores the boundaries of consciousness. — Edinburgh International Film Festival (@edfilmfest) May 30, 2025 Reflecting on his success as a writer, Welsh said he does not dwell too much on a project as he's always looking towards the next thing. 'If it's a book, a film, a record or a TV show, once you've created it and put it out into the world, it's an act of giving it away,' said Welsh. 'By then, you're already immersed in the next one. I just move from one project to the next. 'I don't really take the time to reflect on them or figure out where they sit in the grand scheme of things. 'That's why it's interesting for me to watch myself on screen, being compelled to talk about them and think about them in that way.' Welsh is a constant fixture at the Edinburgh festivals, whether speaking at the book festival or through Trainspotting Live, the immersive adaptation of his novel that features at the Fringe each year. Although he features heavily in the festival programme, Welsh himself says he would prefer to be at the pub or watching his favourite football team, Hibs. 'I should be swathed in culture, but all I've been thinking about is Hibs are back in the Europa League,' he laughs. 'Oasis were here too. I got to go to the shows at Murrayfield, and they were absolutely fabulous, just mind blowing. 'Hibs and Oasis, basically, has been my festival.' Irvine Welsh: Reality Is Not Enough will premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival on Wednesday August 20.

Rapper Doechii pulls out of performances at All Points East and Bristol festival

The 27-year-old, whose real name is Jaylah Hickmon, will also no longer perform at France's Rock En Seine festival in Paris, with no reason given for the rapper's absence at the events. An All Points East statement read: 'Unfortunately Doechii will no longer be able to perform at All Points East on Saturday, August 23. 'We'd like to apologise to any disappointed fans and hope to welcome Doechii back to All Points East in the future.' A post shared by All Points East (@allpointseastuk) The Florida-born artist was due to perform at All Points East on Saturday, followed by Forwards on Sunday, while her Rock En Seine performance was due to take place on Thursday. The All Points East statement continued: 'We're very sorry to announce that Doechii will no longer be performing at her upcoming shows. 'She is an incredible artist, and, like all of her fans, we were hugely excited to see her on stage. 'All Points East has an amazing line-up including Raye, Tyla, Jade, Jyoty, Nao and many more, and it's set to be a truly unforgettable day.' A replacement for the star has not been announced by either of the UK festivals at the time of writing. A statement from Forwards read: 'We are very sad to announce that Doechii will not be performing at her upcoming shows. 'She is an incredible artist and we were as excited as you were to bring her to our hometown of Bristol. 'We are so proud of this year's Sunday line-up, with three amazing female headliners in Jorja Smith, The Last Dinner Party and Olivia Dean gracing our stage, as well as a plethora of other amazing musical talent across the day.' A post shared by Forwards Bristol (@forwardsbristol) Ticketholders have not been told whether they will be able to get a refund for the events following the cancellation. Doechii's North American tour begins next month, with a further set of US dates announced for October earlier this month. The rapper first became known for her track Yucky Blucky Fruitcake, when it went viral following its release in 2020. Doechii achieved worldwide fame in 2024 with the release of mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, which includes the songs Denial Is A River, Catfish and Nissan Altima. Months later, the record gave the rapper her first Grammy Award for best rap album, with nominations for best rap performance and best new albums at the 67th award ceremony. She is also behind the viral hit Anxiety, which was released after a YouTube video of Doechii singing the song, which samples the 2011 hit Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye and Kimbra, resurfaced. The positive online response encouraged the rapper to release the full version, which saw her reach number three in the UK singles chart. Forwards, All Points East and Doechii's record label have been contacted for comment.
