TV presenter Jay Blades appears in court via videolink charged with rape
Blades, who wore animal-print spectacles, a blue suit and a dark polka-dot tie, was not required to enter pleas during his first appearance.
The defendant found fame on restoration programme The Repair Shop, which he started hosting in 2017.
He stepped back as a presenter last year.
Blades also appeared on Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity Bake Off and Comic Relief, as well as presenting the BBC's Money For Nothing until 2020.
The defendant, of Claverley in Shropshire, was granted conditional bail to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on September 10.

This week the line-up for the upcoming season of the long-running series was released, with some of the celebrities taking part including Vicky Pattison, Dani Dyer and Alex Kingston. Strictly Come Dancing star George Clarke revealed he's dating a stunning lingerie model just hours before signing up to BBC show. Fans claimed on Reddit that the YouTuber, 25, confirmed he was dating lingerie model Yasmin Amelia during a live stream on social media. Amelia boasts almost 30k followers on Instagram and is signed to J'adore Models agency. The pair follow each other on social media. One wrote: 'Caught me off guard because he is a very private person specially about his dating/love life. Even on the pod he has expressed his desire to keep things private and off socials. But his showbiz roots go deeper than his online personality, because his dad is the studio boss at an iconic British production company. George's dad is Sean Clarke, the managing director of Aardman Animations - the studio behind British institution Wallace and Gromit. Fans were shocked to discover his nepo baby status, writing on social media: 'This is blowing my mind!' Starting out at the company in 1998, George's dad Sean worked his way up, co-producing Early Man and the two Shaun The Sheep movies - and in 2019 was announced as the new boss of the whole operation.
