Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar will meet the Congress high command in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss various developments, including June 4 stampede in Bengaluru that killed 11 people.
The Congress government in the state has come under sharp criticism in the wake of the incident, with opposition BJP and JD(S) holding both CM and Deputy CM directly responsible and demanding their resignation.
Siddaramaiah will meet party leadership in Delhi and will brief them on the latest developments, the Chief Minister's office said in a statement.
Shivakumar, who had returned from Delhi after visiting Delhi Muncipal Corporation regarding Muncipal Governance and Solid Waste Management along with Officers of Greater Benagluru Authority (GBA), is heading back to Delhi, according to his office.
Shivakumar is also the state Congress President.
The stampede occurred on June 4 evening in front of the Chinnaswamy stadium here, where a large number of people thronged to participate in the RCB team's IPL victory celebrations. Eleven people died and 56 were injured in the incident.
Siddaramaiah had on Sunday denied reports that the Congress high command had sought information from him regarding the stampede incident.
According to sources, the four names recommended to the Governor for nominations to the Legislative Council, but reportedly withheld after directions from the party high command, is also likely to come up for discussions.

Amid din over Bengaluru stampede, Congress orders new Karnataka caste survey

NEW DELHI/BENGALURU: Congress decided Tuesday to undertake a fresh caste survey in Karnataka, citing rumblings within the state's dominant communities about the reliability of the 2015 enumeration data, and asking CM Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar to target a 60- to 80-day timeframe for the exercise. Sources said the immediate incentive for the Congress brass to push the exercise was to deliver something that would potentially take the heat off the Siddaramaiah govt amid an accountability crisis in the aftermath of the June 4 Bengaluru stampede in which 11 cricket fans died. Also read: Congress top brass raps state unit for Bengaluru stampede "The party agrees in principle with the state govt on addressing the concerns of some communities that have reservations about caste data, which is a decade old and outdated. Hence, the party suggested re-enumeration within a stipulated time," AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said. The decision effectively means that the Kantharaj Commission's 2015 report goes into deep freeze, although Venugopal said it would be "discussed" at a cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday. Siddaramaiah said the proposed re-enumeration would mimic the ongoing survey of Scheduled Castes in the state and would likely be completed within three months. Leaked data from the Kantharaj Commission's report suggest Siddaramaiah's core vote bank of Ahinda (Kannada acronym for minorities, backward classes and Dalits) has grown exponentially, compared to the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities. Congress insiders suggested that CM's reluctance, if any, to accept the decision to conduct a fresh caste survey would be balanced by the prospect of the stampede backlash getting "lost in the new noise". Deputy CM Shivakumar said the decision was meant to enable everyone to resubmit information during house-to-house surveys and through online submissions. "Since this process would be an extensive one, we will decide the strategy at the next cabinet meeting. CM will then announce the timeline."

UP: Party worker slaps SSP chief Mahendra Rajbhar multiple times during public event

Yadav uses the abbreviation PDA for 'pichde' (backward classes), Dalits, and 'alpsankhyak' (minorities). After a video of the assault went viral on social media, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav condemned the incident as 'another example of atrocities and insult' on PDA, alleging the BJP's complicity in it. Jaunpur (UP), Jun 10 (PTI) A party worker reportedly slapped Mahendra Rajbhar, national president of the Suheldev Swabhiman Party (SSP), repeatedly soon after garlanding the latter on stage during a public gathering in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district. The incident took place at Ashapur village under the Jalalpur police station limits during a function held on the occasion of Maharaja Suheldev's victory day. The event was organised to perform 'bhoomi pujan' for installing a statue of the revered Rajbhar icon in the Rajbhar-dominated Zafarabad Assembly constituency. Mahendra Rajbhar, a native of Mau district, was the chief guest at the event. To the audience's shock, Brijesh Rajbhar, a party worker, first garlanded Mahendra Rajbhar and then slapped him multiple times in full public view, causing chaos at the event. Following the assault, Mahendra Rajbhar accused Uttar Pradesh Cabinet minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) president Om Prakash Rajbhar of orchestrating the attack. However, no statement has yet been issued by Om Prakash Rajbhar or the SBSP in response to the acquisition. After the incident, Mahendra Rajbhar left the venue and filed a complaint at the Jalalpur police station, naming Brijesh Rajbhar. Speaking to reporters, he claimed that Brijesh Rajbhar met Om Prakash Rajbhar four to five days before the event and that the attack was planned under the latter's direction. 'Brijesh was once a worker in my party, but he currently holds no official position. I don't know how or why he came to the event or who invited him. There is no internal dispute in the party or any financial disagreement,' Mahendra Rajbhar said, adding that though many people were present at the event, Brijesh Rajbhar was the one who attacked him. Confirming that Mahendra Rajbhar has lodged a complaint, Jalalpur SHO Triveni Singh said the viral video of the incident was under review as part of the investigation. Reacting to the incident, Akhilesh Yadav alleged BJP's complicity in the attack, which he termed another example of growing atrocities on PDA. 'The violent attack on senior leader Mahendra Rajbhar is yet another condemnable example of the growing insults and atrocities faced by the PDA society under BJP rule,' Yadav posted in Hindi on X. 'If the BJP thinks it can sustain its divisive politics by breaking communities from within, it is gravely mistaken. If the BJP is not complicit in this attack, the assailant must be immediately arrested and punished for his actions,' Yadav said. 'Violence is a manifestation of desperation. The BJP should remember that such acts will not demoralise the PDA but strengthen its resolve further. Long live the Constitution, long live the PDA,' he added. Mahendra Rajbhar was previously associated with the SBSP and served as its national vice-president before parting ways ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections to form his own party. He had accused Om Prakash Rajbhar of deviating from the party's mission and prioritising personal financial gains. In the current Uttar Pradesh Assembly, SBSP's Jagdish Narayan Rai represents Zafarabad. He won the 2022 election as part of an alliance with the Samajwadi Party. Achieved more in 24 min than what was done in 24 yrs: CM

1 2 Bhubaneswar: BJP govt has accomplished more in 24 minutes than what was done in 24 years, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Tuesday, highlighting the administration's achievements in its first year in power in Odisha. Taking an indirect dig at 24 years of uninterrupted rule by the Naveen Patnaik govt, Majhi said at a press conference ahead of his govt's first anniversary on Thursday, "We have proven in the first cabinet that 24 years of governance is not necessary for public service; much can be done in 24 minutes. The willpower is essential." He cited his govt's first cabinet meeting on June 12, 2024 in which four significant decisions were taken — implementing the Subhadra cash incentive scheme for women, increasing paddy procurement payment by Rs 800 per quintal, opening the four gates of Jagannath Temple in Puri, and establishing a Rs 500 crore corpus fund for the 12th-century shrine. Majhi said because of his govt's pro-people approach, it has earned the name of a people's govt, and he was lucky to be called a "people's CM." He also highlighted the creation of 17 lakh lakhpati didis, making Odisha the first such state in India, a record allocation of Rs 37,838 crore for the agriculture sector, implementation of Ayushman Bharat Yojana , and infrastructure development worth Rs 65,102 crore, among others. Emphasising his govt's stand against corruption, Majhi asserted that "every corrupt officer, whether a peon or an IAS officer, will land in jail". He also highlighted the administration's commitment to providing 40,000 govt jobs this year, following the 28,000 positions filled in the previous year. Looking ahead, he projected Odisha would become a $500 billion economy and rank among India's top five states by 2036, contributing significantly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India by 2047. The govt aims to provide piped drinking water to 90% of the state's population by 2026 and Antyodaya homes to 5 lakh people, Majhi added. He also highlighted the achievements of the Modi govt in the last 11 years. While Majhi highlighted the BJP govt's successes, Naveen launched an attack on the BJP-led govt. "Long speeches and big advertisements do not bring development," Naveen said, while highlighting the administration's alleged failures in its first year. Addressing BJD workers at the party office, the former CM criticised the govt's handling of healthcare, pointing out that 19 out of 30 districts have vacant chief district medical and public health officer (CDMPHO) positions. "The health system has completely collapsed. People are not getting medicines, and free treatment in hospitals has become a challenge under Ayushman Bharat," the opposition leader said. The BJD leader particularly emphasised the deterioration of Mission Shakti programme, which had previously empowered seven million women. "Those who travelled to Dubai and Singapore are now sitting at home, disheartened. Their self-confidence has been shattered," he stated. Naveen also highlighted the plight of farmers, claiming the govt failed to fulfil its election promise of eliminating middlemen and ensuring MSP for all farmers. "Farmers are now at the mercy of millers, with no fear of the govt," he added. Comparing financial management, the opposition leader also noted that while his govt left a surplus of Rs 45,000 crore in 2024, the current administration "is running on record loans".
