Rennes look to offload 19 players

Yahoo28-05-2025

It will be a summer of great change at Stade Rennais, with the club looking to offload 19 players, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Rennes spent big last summer and during the January transfer window, however, few of their purchases paid dividends. Frédéric Massara, the club's sporting director, paid the price. After just one season in the post, he left earlier this month, replaced by Loïc Désire, who arrived from RC Strasbourg Alsace.

Dealing with a bloated squad, SRFC are looking to offload several elements, 19 to be precise. The club have given mandates to several agents in order to get as many players as possible off the books. Arnaud Kalimuendo, a reported target for Newcastle United, is expected to leave, whilst Adrien Truffert and Lorenz Assignon are also tipped for departures.
Returning loanees such as Baptiste Santamaria, Albert Gronbaek, Leo Ostigard, etc. will not be conserved by Rennes, whilst Bournemouth-linked Kyogo Furuhashi is expected to also depart.

Exclusive: Wirtz and Kerkez Liverpool Transfers '99% Done' Reveals Lewis Steele

Liverpool's Summer Intent: Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez Transfers Nearing Completion Transfer Momentum Builds Under Arne Slot On the latest episode of Media Matters for Anfield Index, hosted by Dave Davis, Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele provided fresh clarity on Liverpool's transfer dealings, particularly around two rising stars: Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. Broadcasting live from Munich ahead of the Nations League clash between Germany and Portugal, Steele delivered candid updates that suggest both moves are edging towards completion. Advertisement Discussing the Wirtz situation, Steele was unequivocal: 'The word that I had from two different people was 99% done.' He tempered expectations slightly by adding, 'From the Liverpool end, I think it's maybe not quite 99% because they do have to agree a fee, but it's certainly heading in the direction of signing for Liverpool.' Wirtz Deal Sparks Surprise and Excitement in Germany Liverpool's near-capture of Florian Wirtz has raised eyebrows in Germany. 'I spoke to a guy who works at Bild, the big German newspaper,' said Steele. 'He was saying he's very surprised that he's going to Liverpool because it seemed obvious for two or three years that he was going to go to Bayern.' The perception shift appears widespread, with Steele recounting his chat with local fans: 'A lot of them said, 'We're a bit gutted that he's leaving Germany'… but also glad he's not going to Bayern.' Advertisement For many, Wirtz represents a generational talent. The sentiment in Germany seems torn between national pride and admiration for the player challenging himself abroad — and Liverpool stand to benefit. Bournemouth's Stance on Kerkez: 'They Will Dig In' Steele also addressed Milos Kerkez, the promising left-back from Bournemouth. 'Bournemouth still want their £45 million and they will dig in for it,' he explained. However, there is a sense of flexibility: 'There was a bit of a realisation on their part that they might have to shake hands at £40m with some decent add-ons.' Though not quite at Wirtz levels of finality, Steele suggested Liverpool's interest is just as serious: 'It's not even a saga. It's just a when, not if, it'll happen… I think Kerkez will be a Liverpool player soon.' Photo IMAGO Wider Window Strategy and Diaz Speculation Beyond the headline names, Steele revealed that Luis Díaz's future is under scrutiny. 'I think the state of play is that Liverpool don't want to sell him,' he said. 'He definitely wants a new contract… but I don't think Liverpool are going to offer him anytime soon.' That said, a transfer seems unlikely: 'I'll be surprised if he's not in a Liverpool shirt next season.' Advertisement He was also asked about potential interest in Cody Gakpo: 'Yeah, it's true. They do like Cody Gakpo… but I'd be very, very, very surprised if he does go.' This sentiment reinforces Liverpool's approach: calculated, patient, and deeply considered. Title Ambitions and Future Plans With Arne Slot at the helm, expectations are gradually recalibrating. Steele said, 'Liverpool will have to go into next season with title ambitions. It's going to be different.' His standout performance of the season? 'The win at the Etihad… that was probably the one that I thought, wow, this team means business.' On positional targets, Steele would personally push for a forward: 'I'd be signing a number nine… even when Liverpool won, they didn't blow teams away.' There is also intent to reinforce in defence: 'A defender as well, just as a little long-term Virgil replacement.' Looking Ahead Both Steele and Davis agreed: these are calculated, proactive moves under new management. Deals for Wirtz and Kerkez may not be finalised by the 10th of June cut-off, but as Steele noted, 'If it doesn't happen, don't worry because it will happen.' With Liverpool's recruitment strategy clearer than ever, fans have plenty to be excited about, and based on this podcast, the club's trajectory under Arne Slot may very well be aligned with a return to the summit of English and European football.

Liverpool are about to Sign ‘Electric' £40m Premier League Star

Liverpool's Left-Back Hunt Intensifies as Milos Kerkez Deal Nears Completion Liverpool's summer business is already turning heads across the Premier League. With the £29 million arrival of Jeremie Frimpong confirmed from Bayer Leverkusen, the club's recruitment drive continues to gather pace. Attention has now turned firmly to AFC Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez, with a deal in the region of £40 million appearing increasingly imminent. Advertisement Craig, speaking on Anfield Index with Dave Davis, gave insight from a Bournemouth perspective. Representing UTCIAD – The AFC Bournemouth Fans Channel – his passionate, if reluctant, acceptance of Kerkez's potential departure adds weight to the belief that Liverpool may have unearthed another gem. Kerkez to Liverpool: A Deal of Champions Liverpool's status as newly-crowned Premier League champions under Arne Slot has only strengthened their hand in the transfer market. European football's elite is once again firmly within the club's grasp, with Champions League football on the horizon. That appeal is not lost on Craig, who admitted, 'Liverpool are Premier League champions and will be competing at the top table in Europe and will be one of the contenders to win the UEFA Champions League next season.' Advertisement Such pulling power makes resisting the Anfield call almost impossible, and even Craig couldn't deny the obvious logic behind the move. 'He would be very silly to not make that move, if I was a neutral.' Kerkez, just 20, already looks a complete modern full-back. His defensive positioning and game intelligence are advanced for his age, while his ability going forward fits the mould of Liverpool's traditional flank-play. Craig didn't hold back in his praise: 'Milos is fantastic going forward, great in defence, he reads the game so well. He is an all-round player.' Photo: IMAGO Bournemouth's Reluctant Farewell While Bournemouth fans are understandably clinging to hope, the reality is setting in. Kerkez is admired not just locally, but across Europe. 'Unfortunately I can see that it is going to be very, very difficult for us to keep hold of him this summer,' Craig admitted, voicing the collective sentiment on the South Coast. Advertisement The Cherries have already been linked with replacements, suggesting internal acknowledgement of the situation. 'There's been a lot of speculation over Bournemouth looking for a new left-back,' Craig added, acknowledging the likely exit. Still, hope springs eternal, and in true fan fashion, Craig added, 'I'm still hoping that there is some way we can keep hold of Kerkez.' It's unlikely. When a Champions League club with Liverpool's prestige calls, few young talents can say no. The promise of competing under Slot, playing at Anfield, and possibly replicating the rapid progress of players like Andy Robertson, is far too appealing. Photo: IMAGO YouTube Clips and Transfer Clues There was a more light-hearted twist too. Kerkez's personal YouTube channel, focused on gaming, briefly became a source of speculation. Craig remarked, 'Milos has got a YouTube channel and it's quite funny. It seems to be gaming, not my cup of tea, but I was having a little watch and he did say that he wasn't going to Liverpool on there at one point – take it with a pinch of salt.' Advertisement In today's digital age, where footballers drop hints in the most unexpected corners of the internet, even a gaming video can cause a stir. But it's fair to say fans should be looking at the pitch, not the pixels. Slot's Vision and Summer Statement Arne Slot's early transfer dealings suggest a manager with a clear tactical identity and strong backing from Liverpool's board. Jeremie Frimpong offers width, pace and end-product on the right, and if Kerkez arrives, Liverpool's full-back options will be among the most dynamic in world football. Slot's 4-2-3-1 or high-energy 4-3-3 systems thrive on wide defenders who can dictate the game in both halves. Kerkez's arrival would add depth, competition and another youthful presence to a backline that is already transitioning into a new era. This isn't just a signing for now – it's a long-term move that aligns with everything Liverpool have tried to build in the post-Klopp era. The league title might be back in the cabinet, but Slot isn't satisfied. And based on this early window intent, Liverpool fans shouldn't be either. There's more to come.
