Interior Design Masters fans fume after favourite loses to 'ugly' house in final

Metro29-05-2025
Interior Design Masters just cranked up the heat tonight in a shock final, as underdog John Cooper won over Rita Millat, leaving some fans fuming.
The popular series sees comedian Alan Carr and interiors guru Michelle Ogundehin pit a group of designers against one another in various challenges over seven weeks.
Tasked with transforming two holiday cottages in the village of Portmeirion in Wales for tonight's final, DT teacher John, 46, went for a Mediterranean-inspired finish, while visual merchandiser Rita, 42, opted for a cosy pastel-coloured vibe.
For background: while Rita won the first challenge in the series, John was left in the bottom cohort on the sofa on four occasions.
Some viewers weren't happy, as they felt Rita had been more consistent throughout the competition and it was sheer luck John pulled it out the bag at the last minute.
'Feel like I've just watched a terrible episode of changing rooms! That was awful – Rita had an amazing eye for design and this program ruined it. Rita if you're listening don't change who you are, you're amazing!' commented @cookiesam50 on X.
'I think that John was very lucky to be in the final but I preferred his house tonight. Rita's kitchen was underwhelming and that stairway was horrendous,' reasoned @BurghillGirl.
However, @alemonsqueeze raged: 'My goodness, Rita was robbed! John has been at the bottom 4 times, his transformation was ugly and tasteless.'
@Claret40 said: 'Gutted Rita didn't win Interior Design Masters. She was consistently head & shoulders above everyone else week after week. I wish her well in the future.'
Others were very much team John though, as @TheSilverZebra said: 'Congratulations to John, the colours & design were spot on. That pop of blue throughout really brought it together, another great series.'
@Alligatoruk1975 said: 'Yay John!!! Well deserved win on #InteriorDesignMasters. His confidence and style has grown throughout the series. His final room was very stylish and classy.'
At one point throughout the series, Rita slightly lost her confidence, but brought it back when she injected her personality into her designs again.
Meanwhile, John has been praised for his attention to detail, with time management an issue throughout the contest.
In the seven weeks, contestants have transformed everything from hostel bunkrooms to hospitality boxes in the hope of going home with a major homeware range contract with John Lewis, which (the aptly named) John bagged tonight.
Last year, host Alan Carr admitted on The Rest is Entertainment podcast that sometimes clients aren't happy with the show's design makeovers.
'Sometimes the people who own the shop or hairdressers or the hotel room really hate what they've done,' Alan said.
'What we do is we go back and paint it back to how it originally was so no one is offended.'

Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas appear to confirm romance with holiday PDA

After months of whispers and well-angled paparazzi photos, Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas appear to have confirmed their relationship. The 63-year-old Top Gun star and the Blonde actress., 37, were spotted over the weekend enjoying a quiet escape in the Vermont countryside. While neither has publicly commented on their relationship, the relaxed PDA during their July 26 outing – and a string of increasingly couple-coded appearances this summer – suggest that the pair are more than just creative collaborators. Cruise, dressed in navy from cap to sneakers, was seen clasping de Armas' hand as they walked near her Vermont home. The actress, casually chic in a white T-shirt and black flared jeans, matched his laid-back energy, ponytail in place and sneakers on. It's a subtle but telling shift from their earlier public sightings – which often came with plausible deniability. Romance rumors first swirled in February when the two were photographed dining in London – reportedly alongside their agents, who insisted the meeting was strictly professional. At the time, a source described the atmosphere as 'friendly, not flirty.' But that tune quickly changed as Cruise and de Armas were spotted together again, from birthday parties to park strolls and even a yacht trip in Spain. Their most high-profile cameo came just days before the Vermont trip, when the duo were seen at Wembley Stadium enjoying Oasis' reunion concert. Though they stayed in the background, eagle-eyed fans caught them on camera. While the romance may be blossoming in real time, so is their professional partnership. De Armas recently confirmed she's working on several projects with Cruise, including the forthcoming supernatural thriller Deeper, directed by Doug Liman. More Trending Cruise, whose high-octane filmography has spanned decades, is no stranger to high-profile relationships. He was previously married to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes, and has three children. De Armas, meanwhile, has kept her private life relatively low-key since her much-publicized breakup with Ben Affleck in early 2021. More recently, she was linked to Manuel Anido Cuesta, the politically connected Cuban executive. While it remains to be seen whether Cruise and de Armas will make things red carpet official, their recent Vermont retreat makes it appear as though things are getting serious. Got a story? Emmerdale's John unearths Robert's damning secret involving returning character

Emmerdale's John Sugden found something out about his brother Robert Sugden on the ITV soap on Wednesday, amid the latter issuing a plea to a returning character The latest episode of Emmerdale revealed what 'dirt' John Sugden will have over his sibling Robert Sugden amid their ongoing feud. ‌ Robert's determination to expose his sibling's dark ways, with no one believing him, left him with a target on his back on Wednesday night. John had unearthed the fact his brother was trying to find out what he was hiding, but not even Robert knows for certain the horrifying truth. ‌ He's clocked on to the fact that John is always there to save the day, and he's suspicious over recent events concerning former mother-in-law Chas Dingle, and villager Jacob Gallagher. Robert has also figured out that John may have killed Nate Robinson and then framed Owen for the crime, while he has no proof. ‌ With Robert's mental health spiralling, John feigned concern and asked doctor Liam Cavanagh to have a word with his brother. Playing the doting brother who is being targeted for no reason, John wasted no time in telling their sister Victoria about Robert's attempts to get into his phone as well as badmouth him to others. Victoria, already concerned about Robert given his prison trauma and him having nightmares, feared he was spiralling and taking it out on John. But if only they all knew the truth. ‌ Robert was annoyed by Liam's arrival, and soon returned to calling out John. Fishing for information on him, he kept talking about Liam's colleague not being honest and truthful, claiming he had something to hide. John was nervous as he listened into the chat via a listening device he'd secretly planted in the house. He heard Robert claim he would get to the bottom of what John was up to, with him heard saying "something wasn't right with him". Robert then unintentionally gave John something to have over him though, as returning character and new villain Ray headed back to the village to track Robert down. Ray debuted a few months ago, and Robert secretly did a drugs deal with him. ‌ He stole Lewis Barton's weed that was growing on Moira Dingle's farm and sold it to Ray. Ray was so impressed he wanted more, but Robert made it clear it was a one-off deal, and there was no more cannabis. Ray didn't believe him though, and it emerged it was Ray who sent Dylan and another masked intruder to the farm to look for the crops. Of course they found nothing, and unfortunately they were caught, leading to Dylan being attacked - while Joe Tate got the blame. ‌ But Ray wasn't done, and on Wednesday he returned to the show and the village, looking for Robert. Tracking him down, he asked Robert for another batch, admitting what happened at the farm. Robert pleaded with him, saying business was over and there was honestly no more drugs. So when Ray hinted he would ask Lewis, or Ross and Mack, instead, Robert panicked. Realising it would get out that he'd stolen the drugs and sold them to Ray, he begged the dealer to stay quiet as otherwise "he was finished". What Robert didn't realise though was that as he confessed to the theft and his deal with Ray, John was listening into the entire chat via the device and now knows his secret. John now has dirt on Robert that could land him in trouble, both with the law and with the village. So what will John do with this information, and is it enough to get Robert to back off?
