Bengal LoP Accuses Police Of Illegally Entering Bankura BJP Office In The Night
KOLKATA: The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Sunday accused the state police of sneaking into the BJP's party office in Bankura district like 'thieves and dacoits' and attempting 'to break the gate and barge in under the cover of darkness'. According to him, such an attempt by the Bankura district police happened at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, and the perpetrators were cops from the Khatra and Bankura Police Stations.
'This shameless display of so-called 'power' was met with fierce resistance from our brave BJP Karyakartas and local Leaders, who stood firm against this cowardly act of intimidation. Is this what Mamata Police have been reduced to; sneaking around in the dead of night to harass opposition workers while turning a blind eye to the real criminals?' said Adhikari in a statement he posted on his official X handle.
According to the LoP, the same state police chose to remain inactive when it came to the question of taking action against a leader like Anubrata Mondal, who was recently heard in a viral video threatening a police officer from Birbhum district "to rape his mother and wife".
"Where is this bravado when it comes to taking action against TMC's notorious 'lumpen' Anubrata Mondal? This is the same Police force that cowers when faced with TMC goons and their lawless antics. Just weeks ago, an audio clip surfaced of Mondal hurling vile abuses and threats at Bolpur's Inspector-in-Charge, targeting his wife and mother with obscene remarks. Yet, what did the SPINELESS Police do? NOTHING,' Adhikari's statement read.
LoP Adhikari, at the same time, also questioned the role of police during the recent clashes between two groups at Maheshtala in the South 24 Parganas district last week.
'One can't forget the SURRENDER gesture made by the Mamata Police in Maheshtala a couple of days earlier waving white handkerchiefs towards the stone-pelting Jihadists. Bloody Cowards,' Adhikari said.
At the same time, he added that during the communal violence and riot-like situation in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district in April this year, the district police forces took shelter in shops when faced with the rioters.
'The people of Bengal deserve better than a Police force that flexes its muscle against the Opposition and commoners but turns tail when confronted by TMC's goons or other lawbreakers who are under the shelter of the TMC Party. This is not Law Enforcement, it's an act staged by Clowns, who have lost all respect from the People of West Bengal," Adhikari's statement read.
While condemning the police for attempting to illegally enter the party office at night without valid reasons and documents, Adhikari also shared a video where the policemen can be seen inside the office and arguing with the workers.

On June 8, a mob attacked and vandalised the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore in Bangladesh, also known as Rabindra Kachharibari or Rabindra Memorial Museum in Sirajganj district. Media reports said that the attackers also assaulted a director of the institution. Situated in Shahzadpur in Rajshahi division, Rabindra Kachharibari is the ancestral home and revenue office of the Tagore family. Many of Tagore's literary works came up while living in this mansion. India's Ministry of External Affairs also on June 12 strongly condemned the vandalism of Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh, describing it as part of a 'systematic' pattern by extremists to undermine the country's syncretic cultural heritage. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal termed the June 8 attack on the Rabindra Kachharibari as a 'despicable' act and 'a disgrace to the memory and the inclusive philosophy' of the Nobel Laureate.

She was campaigning for BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta in the Ludhiana (West) assembly by-elections, for which polling will take place on June 19. During her address, Gupta took a dig at AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for failing to fulfil his promises to both Delhi and Punjab, as she questioned, 'What about your promises? Delhi unit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Virendra Sachdeva and other party MPs will on Monday march towards Bangladesh High Commission to protest against vandalism at Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in the neighbouring country. A Delhi BJP spokesperson said that the march will start from Teen Murti Chowk at around 3.45 p.m. and proceed towards Bangladesh High Commission in Chankyapuri to demand protection for Tagore's ancestral home. The BJP has condemned the attack on Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangladesh, terming it a pre-planned act of violence. The party has repeatedly urged the world community, which values morality, culture, and creativity, to come together and strongly condemn the attack on Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral house. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra earlier said: "The site was vandalised, and significant damage was done. Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was no ordinary figure. He was not just a literary icon; he was a man of diversity, who gave a lot to the world, he was man with personality beyond borders.' Patra said media reports suggested that the attack was carried out by members of organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam. He said the interim government of Bangladesh had not taken any action so far. Patra said Tagore's house was declared an international museum by the Government of Bangladesh, preserving the legacy of India's heritage, where many of Rabindranath Tagore's works were created. The house was vandalised by a mob following a confrontation between a visitor and a museum employee. Authorities launched an investigation into the incident and temporarily closed the site to the public, a report mentioned. According to local media reports, the unrest began when a visitor arrived at the Rabindra Kachharibari, also known as the Rabindra Memorial Museum, with his family. A dispute reportedly broke out between the visitor and staff at the entrance over a motorcycle parking fee. Tensions escalated, and the visitor was allegedly confined in an office room and physically assaulted by staff. The incident sparked local outrage and the auditorium of the Kachharibari was vandalised, and a director of the institution was physically attacked.
