ST. LOUIS — The UFL named Michigan Panthers quarterback Bryce Perkins its MVP for the 2025 season on its social media channels at 1:49 p.m. local time on Friday.
It didn't take long for DC Defenders tight end Briley Moore to reach out to his quarterback, Jordan Ta'amu, who Moore believed "was a lock" to win the distinguished honor.
At 2:51 p.m. local time, Moore sent a text to his quarterback. The 27-year-old shared the message verbatim in a news conference following the Defenders' 58-34 win over the Panthers in the 2025 UFL championship game.
"I can't wait either at all," Moore read. "But when you're holding up that trophy on stage tomorrow night, I'm gonna be chanting MVP."
That's exactly what happened. The entire Defenders team serenaded its quarterback after Ta'amu put together a record-breaking performance in the championship game.
Ta'amu completed 21 of 28 passes for a league-record 390 yards while logging five total touchdowns in DC's rout. Despite being a part of the action, Moore could hardly believe what his quarterback had achieved.
"I mean, this stat line is insane," Moore said, while glancing over a stat sheet from Saturday's game. "But that's just him. After getting that news (he didn't win MVP) 24 hours ago, he didn't flinch. He didn't try to do too much. He didn't let him affect him, and he just balled out."
Moore believes one of the reasons Ta'amu progressed so much in 2025 — a season during which he led the league in passing touchdowns with 17 — was that the quarterback was playing "with a different confidence."
Ta'amu explained his confidence stemmed from the trust he has in his teammates, who he said motivated him after he finished behind Perkins in the regular-season MVP voting.
"Just having that brotherhood behind me meant a lot," Ta'amu said when he explained how he felt about Moore's pregame message to him.
While Ta'amu praised Perkins as a "great quarterback" who deserved to be the MVP, he acknowledged that his missing out on the award fueled him and the entire Defenders team.
"It just gave us a big chip on our shoulder to go out there and play hard," Ta'amu said about the championship game.
The Defenders were able to do that, thanks in no small part to their offense. DC scored on its opening 10 possessions and set a UFL record for points scored in a game with 58.
Moore was among those happy DC exacted revenge on Michigan, both for the team's sake and for Ta'amu's.
"I feel like I didn't do enough throughout the season to get him that MVP," Moore said. "So, this game was a little personal."

We saw all of that and more in Dallas. Kirkland, who also shines as a receiver for Waco (Texas) University High, has a fantastic make-up to be a safety on Saturdays. The four-star prospect committed to Baylor on Saturday. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH BAYLOR FANS AT NASCAR MCCOY - Atlanta McCoy was sharp in coverage in Atlanta and was in contention for MVP honors. The 2026 four-star safety from Buford (Ga.) High School is instinctual and sound in coverage on the back end and his experience playing cornerback at the high school level is a key element to his game. McCoy came away with several interceptions in Atlanta. Miami, Auburn and Michigan are all after the four-star safety. JERRY OUTHOUSE, JR. - Dallas Outhouse Jr. took home MVP honors in Dallas out of a loaded field of talented defensive backs. Outhouse was sticky in coverage, able to turn and run with an array of different pass-catchers. We loved the four-star defensive back's ability to quickly close on passes with intensity. Outhouse's physicality on the back end -- able to play off and cover inside and out at a consistent clip -- in addition to getting his hands on several balls along the way. We project the 2027 four-star as a safety at the next level. SMU, Notre Dame and Tennessee are among the early teams in play here.

Rams proud of Stetson Bennett's growth, but he still has a long way to go
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett is entering his third season in the NFL. Bennett, a former Georgia Bulldog, has improved, but is a long way away from starting for the Rams. The former two-time national champion quarterback is the Rams' No. 3 quarterback behind starter Matthew Stafford and veteran backup Jimmy Garoppolo. Bennett has yet to attempt a pass in his NFL career, but appears to be set as Los Angeles' third-string quarterback. The Rams don't have a fourth-string quarterback competing with Bennett, who is expected to maintain his role on the practice squad. Advertisement Despite no significant change in his role, the Rams like where Bennett is entering his third season in the NFL. 'A ton of growth, particularly from two years ago,' Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said regarding Bennett. 'A lot of credit to him, working on what he needed to work on to get himself into this situation. But a ton of credit that (quarterbacks coach) Dave (Ragone) too and I'll say even Jimmy and Matthew. I think they've done a great job of just putting arm around him, mentoring him. What awesome two quarterbacks to learn from that have won a crap ton of games in this league. Proud would be the wrong word but for lack of a better term, proud of where he's at and he's just continuing to go.' Bennett is entering a critical phase in his NFL career. He continues to need to exhibit improvement in order to remain the Rams' third-string quarterback. He typically gets a lot of action in the preseason, so that will serve as a big opportunity for him. Matthew Stafford is 37 years old, so the Rams are hoping to develop a quarterback that can take over once he retires. With Jimmy Garoppolo also being 33 years old, Bennett is the Rams' top quarterback of the future option on the Rams' roster. However, NFL teams expect a lot out of their starting quarterbacks, so Bennett, who is 27 years old, will have to continue proving himself in order to ever get a chance to compete for the starting role in Los Angeles (or with any NFL team). Bennett will look to get more opportunities at that. Advertisement 'He needs to play just football, right?' LaFleur added. 'We're out here again. We're out playing flag football in shorts right now but I know this: He's going about his process in a professional way each and every day to give himself the best chance when he inevitably gets his ops (opportunities) in August in the preseason.' Bennett is looking to make the most of his opportunities ahead of the preseason. Last year, Bennett attempted the second-most passes (69) and recorded the second-most passing yards (437) of any quarterback in the preseason. However, Bennett threw five interceptions, which was the most (tied) of any quarterback during the preseason. If Bennett wants a chance to start or consistently serve as a second-string quarterback in the NFL, then he needs to limit turnovers. Rams waive former Georgia CFP hero
The Los Angeles Rams have waived former Georgia Bulldogs cornerback Derion Kendrick after three seasons. Kendrick was a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft. Georgia had a record-breaking 15 players selected in the 2022 draft. Kendrick developed into a productive player for the Rams. He started 18 of 32 games during his first two seasons with Los Angeles. However, he tore his ACL during the first week of training camp in 2024, which forced him out for the entire 2024 season. Advertisement Now, Kendrick is looking to comeback from his ACL injury, but he'll have to find another NFL team first. Kendrick posted 14 pass deflections, 92 tackles and one interception during his first two years in the NFL. He has the ability to start at outside cornerback and should find a new team relatively soon as long as he's healthy. Kendrick played the first three seasons of his college career at Clemson before transferring to Georgia for the 2021 season. The talented cornerback intercepted four passes including two in the College Football Playoff semifinals against Michigan in his lone season at Georgia, which ended in a national championship victory over Alabama.
