Within hours of killing Ludhiana influencer, Mehron fled to UAE: Police
A religious vigilante and radical Sikh leader, Amritpal Singh Mehron, the main conspirator in the alleged murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, 30, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, has flown out of the country.
Bathinda senior superintendent of police Amneet Kondal told reporters on Sunday that within hours of committing the crime, Mehron boarded a flight from Amritsar at 9.15 am to the UAE on June 10.
She said the police department was not informed about which airline he boarded and the destination airport in the Gulf country.
A lookout circular was issued against Mehron, a Nihang, on Saturday, after which the investigators learnt that the conspirator had already left the country.
The SSP stated that the police administration would write to the relevant authorities to facilitate Mehron's deportation back to India as he is wanted in a murder case.
'Custodial interrogation of two accused, Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh, both also Nihangs, revealed that Mehron not only conspired in the murder, but also he was present at the crime spot and he too had strangled Kanchan to death,' said the SSP.
The arrested accused said they killed Kanchan for uploading immoral content 'that hurt the community's sentiments', said the police.
Kondal said that the investigation revealed that Mehron had meticulously planned the murder as part of his 'unauthorised moral policing' that, within hours of killing the woman in Bathinda, he boarded the flight from Amritsar.
'Our team has also learnt about the involvement of two persons in the crime, including one Ranjit Singh, while the identity of the other is yet to be ascertained. Custodial questioning of the two accused revealed that Mehron forcibly snatched two mobile phones and the passwords from Kanchan before she was done to death in her car,' added the SSP.
Investigators said that it has also come to light that after killing Kanchan on the intervening night of June 9 and 10, Nimratjit and Jaspreet visited the parking lot of Adesh medical colleges and hospital at Bhucho town in Bathinda twice.
'Interrogation revealed that the accused left the car with Kanchan's body in it at 2 am on June 10. Later, they realized that a waistband used to strangle was left at the crime scene and Mehron instructed them to get the crucial piece of evidence back. They again went to the parking lot and took the car out of it, took away the waistband and abandoned the car in the lot again,' said the SSP.
As per the police, Mehron had approached Kanchan last week on the pretext of a business promotion event in Bathinda and getting her car repaired at a garage as a part of the deal, inviting her to Bathinda to attend a paid promotion event, the SSP said.
She left her house in Ludhiana at 3.30pm on June 9 with Jaspreet and Nimratjit and a few hours later she was strangled with a waistband in her car while Mehron was also part of the crime.
A local court on Sunday extended the police remand of the accused Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh by three days.

Haryana model Sheetal's body recovered from Sonepat canal
The body of Sheetal Chaudhry, 23, a Panipat-based model associated with the Haryana music industry, was recovered from Reliance Canal at Khanda village in the Kharkhauda area of Sonepat on Monday, police said. Sonepat assistant commissioner of police (ACP), headquarters, Ajit Singh said that the body of Sheetal, also known as Simmy Chaudhry, was recovered from the canal, 60km from Panipat, with its throat slit. 'We received information about the body of a woman in a canal and reached the spot. Investigation is underway,' he said. The body was recovered a day after Sheetal's sister, Neha, lodged a missing complaint at a police station in Panipat. In her complaint, Neha said Sheetal had left home for a music album shoot at Ahar village in Panipat on June 14 but never returned. Neha alleged that Sheetal's friend, identified as Sunil, also from Panipat, had reached the shooting venue and beaten her up. 'Sunil had been mounting pressure on Sheetal to marry him, but she knew he was already married and a father of two children. She told me over video call that Sunil had assaulted her,' Neha said, adding thereafter her phone got disconnected and she was unreachable. Before modelling and acting in Haryanvi music videos, Sheetal worked at Sunil's hotel in Karnal till six months ago. 'Even after she left the job at the hotel, he continued to chase her,' Neha stated in the complaint. Citing foul play, Neha said: 'On Sunday, Sunil's car slipped into a canal in Delhi and he was rescued by passers-by. My sister was not in the car. We suspect Sunil killed her and is concocting a false story. He is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Panipat at present.' Meanwhile, Sheetal's body was sent for post-mortem to the local civil hospital. The incident comes less than a week after police found the decomposed body of a Ludhiana-based digital content creator Kanchan Kumari, 30, popularly known as 'Kamal Kaur Bhabhi', inside a car at the parking lot of Adesh Medical College and Hospital in Bhucho town in Punjab. Two Nihangs, Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh, were arrested, while the key accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, is absconding. 'Mehron had previously cautioned her to stop posting 'vulgar' videos and had planned to teach her a lesson. He, along with the others, hatched a conspiracy and they strangled her to death at an isolated location on June 10,' said Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal.

FIR registered against Bengal BJP chief for ‘hurling sandals' at Sikh officer: TMC
A first information report has been registered against Union minister and the Bharatiya Janata Party's West Bengal chief Sukanta Majumdar in Kolkata for 'hurling sandals' at the turban of a Sikh police officer, the Trinamool Congress claimed on Sunday. Sikh groups accused Majumdar of hurting sentiments and demanded an apology from him. However, Majumdar rejected the claims and said it was only a 'slipper-shaped paper' that was thrown, The Indian Express reported. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday after BJP leaders, led by Majumdar, were detained near Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence when they were stopped from visiting violence-hit Mahestala in South 24 Parganas district, according to the newspaper. A purported video of the incident was circulated widely on social media. An FIR filed at the Kalighat police station on Friday, a copy of which was shared on social media by the Trinamool Congress on Sunday, claimed that Majumdar had thrown the slippers at the officer in a public place near Banerjee's residence a day earlier. The case was based on a complaint by members of the Sikh community, the party alleged. The complaint alleged that Majumdar's actions were 'deliberate and intentional', with the intention to 'insult to religious belief and hurt religious sentiment'. The FIR was lodged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to intentionally hurting religious feelings and voluntarily causing hurt. The Trinamool Congress said that the Sikh community had 'responded with rightful anger' to the incident. 'They have demanded an immediate, unconditional apology, and warned of widespread protests if their voice is ignored,' the ruling party in the state added. 'BJP's politics of hate has no place in Bengal. The insult of one is the insult of all.' . @BJP4India has repeatedly insulted the Sikh community. First, @SuvenduWB labelled a Sikh police officer 'Khalistani.' Now, @DrSukantaBJP hurled sandals at the turban of an on-duty Sikh officer. The Sikh community has responded with rightful anger. An FIR has been filed against… — All India Trinamool Congress (@AITCofficial) June 15, 2025 In response to the allegations, Majumdar claimed that the incident was an accident and added that the person on whose head the 'paper-cut' fell was part of his security detail, The Indian Express reported. The BJP leader added that he intended to throw the paper at the police. 'Has the person on whose head the paper-cut of the slipper fell complained?' the newspaper quoted Majumdar as saying. 'This is being done on the signals of Mamata Banerjee. She does appeasement politics and tries to give rise to communal politics.' On Sunday, Gurmeet Singh, the president Gurudwara Bara Sikh Sanghat, told reporters that all the members of the Sikh community were hurt. 'We had hoped that action would be taken [against Majumdar],' The Indian Express quoted him as saying. 'Hoped that Sukanta Majumdar would come forward with an apology and clarification, but nothing happened.' Gurmeet Singh claimed that the BJP leader's act was done on purpose. 'If he doesn't apologise, we will carry out a huge protest against the BJP and Majumdar,' he added.

Kamal Kaur Murder: Mika Singh Slams Amritpal Singh Mehron, Urges Action Against Killers
New Delhi: Days after self-styled radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh Mehron claimed responsibility for the murder of Punjabi social media influencer Kamal Kaur, also known as Kanchan Kumari, popular Bollywood singer Mika Singh publicly condemned the act and criticised Mehron in a strongly-worded video message that has since gone viral. In the video, Mika Singh expresses outrage over the incident, sarcastically referencing the murder and highlighting the damage it has caused to the Sikh community's global reputation. 'An influencer has been murdered. Amazing! What a proud moment." He continued, 'My name is Mika Singh. I belong to a Sikh family, and I am so proud that two Sikhs killed the woman. Very good! Until now, Sikhs were known for helping people… this is something very different.' He further criticised Mehron and his followers for targeting women over clothing choices and online content, questioning their priorities. 'Are you so free to see who is dancing, who is wearing short clothes, to go and kill them? If you are so courageous, then there are many other problems in the world, go and handle those.' Mika accused Mehron of tarnishing the legacy of Sikhism, a community long celebrated for its selfless service and humanitarian efforts. 'The Sikh community is known for feeding millions through langars, for being the first to help during COVID-19… but you are making us infamous for killing women,' he stated. Singer Mika Singh condemned the killing of Kanchan Kumari (Kamal) by Amritpal Singh Mehron and his associates. He extended support to Harjeet Singh Rasulpur, saying he stands with the truth and is ready to help him in every possible way. @MikaSingh — Gagandeep Singh (@Gagan4344) June 16, 2025 According to reports from IANS, Amritpal Singh Mehron, allegedly the mastermind behind the murder, has fled the country and is currently believed to be hiding in Dubai. The Punjab Police have arrested two of his alleged accomplices, Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh, after the victim's body was found in a car parked in Bathinda. For those unversed, Kamal Kaur, widely recognised on social media as 'Kamal Kaur Bhabhi,' was reportedly targeted by a group of Nihangs, who accused her of disrespecting Sikh religious sentiments through her online content. According to police, she was lured, isolated, and then strangled inside a vehicle by the accused, following a plan orchestrated by Mehron. In a separate video released by Mehron before fleeing, he claimed responsibility for the murder and warned other content creators not to 'defile Sikh traditions.' He alleged that the influencer's content was 'obscene' and an insult to Sikh values. 'Khalsa never attacks women,' he said, 'but when a woman mocks our Takhts and our Gurus, we will not spare them.' Reacting strongly to this, Mika Singh said: 'On one hand, we have martyrs like Bhagat Singh who laid down their lives for the country. On the other, we now have people who believe killing a woman is bravery.' He urged the Punjab government and law enforcement agencies to take strict action against the perpetrators. 'I request the Punjab government to find the truth and punish the killers. I support Harjeet Singh Rasulpur, and I am ready to help him in every possible way. I stand by the truth,' Mika concluded. The murder has sparked widespread public outrage and reignited conversations around online freedom, women's safety, and religious extremism in Punjab.
