New Delhi: Reiterating her govt's commitment to rejuvenating the Yamuna, chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday that she wanted a consistent flow of water throughout the river's stretch in the capital.
Speaking to reporters during an
International Day of Yoga
event at Sonia Vihar Water Sports Club — where the river maintains a continuous flow till Wazirabad — Gupta said her aim was to ensure the entire stretch of the Yamuna in Delhi had a similar volume of water.
Delhi govt held yoga events at 11 locations in the city, attended by ministers, BJP MPs, MLAs, councillors, bureaucrats and other prominent people. Gupta was joined by BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and minister Kapil Mishra in Sonia Vihar.
On the choice of the venue, Gupta said they wanted to show people that the cleaning work of the river was underway.
"
Yamuna river
is the symbol of our faith, but the previous govts ignored it. They did not work to clean it. But in the four months that we have been in power, we have worked to clean it," she claimed. "People ask me, where will the cruise run? I want to tell them, the cruise will run on this river where students performed yoga today on boats," CM said.

She also criticised the previous AAP govt and said it associated yoga with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and did not celebrate the occasion. "If they associate yoga with PM, what can we do? Tomorrow, the AAP leader might give up his food if he sees PM associated with it. After seeing the BJP govt in Delhi, he has left the national capital," she jibed.
Delhi assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta participated in a yoga session at Lodhi Gardens.
He reiterated the importance of collective action and awareness to build a healthier, more resilient nation rooted in the timeless wisdom of yoga.
Education minister Ashish Sood said that for the first time, the city govt officially celebrated Yoga Day in the capital. "The 11th International Yoga Day was marked simultaneously at 11 locations, with more than 20,000 yoga practitioners taking part in the events. Yoga Day was also observed on a large scale in colleges, and nearly 10,000 yoga enthusiasts gathered at Chhatrasal Stadium today," he said.
Sood led the event at the stadium.
Water and PWD minister Parvesh Verma performed yoga at Thyagaraj Stadium. Health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh participated at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Park event. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, the party's national general secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh and other senior functionaries also performed yoga at the same park.
Social welfare minister Ravinder Indraj Singh participated in a session at Bawana Stadium, while environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa led the celebrations at the hockey ground in Ashok Nagar.

Tejasvi Surya slams Bengaluru Metro over fare hike, demands release of fare fixation report

BJP MP from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya, has once again turned up the heat on the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), demanding that it immediately release the Fare Fixation Committee's (FFC) report, which led to the recent revision in Namma Metro ticket prices. Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.(PTI) Also Read - Bengaluru bike taxi riders protest outside Vidhana Soudha to lift the ban, detained In a post on social media platform X, Surya questioned BMRCL's lack of transparency, asking why the report had not yet been made public despite repeated calls. He also took a broader swipe at the city's approach to public transport, saying it lacked vision, aesthetics, and respect for the commuter. 'Why are you not making it public? What is it that you want to hide?' the MP asked. 'This isn't a matter of national security. Commuters have the right to know what justified such steep fare hikes.' Surya said he had personally reminded BMRCL's Managing Director on Friday to disclose the committee's findings. The FFC is a statutory body constituted under the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002, responsible for recommending fare structures. Drawing comparisons with international transit systems, Surya cited the Moscow Metro as a model example of urban mobility done right. He praised the Russian capital's metro for its ultra-high frequency (80-second intervals), dense radial connectivity, affordable pricing, and architecturally stunning stations. 'It's about ambition, aesthetics, and respect for the commuter. But this sentiment is missing in Bengaluru.' He urged BMRCL to learn from global best practices and focus not only on operational efficiency but also on commuter experience and affordability. Surya reiterated that public transport in a growing urban centre like Bengaluru should be the cheapest, fastest, and most accessible mode of mobility, not a financial burden on its users. The recent fare revision by BMRCL has faced sharp criticism from regular metro users and urban mobility advocates alike. While the corporation has defended the move citing rising operational costs and expansion efforts, it has yet to explain how the fares were calculated — something the still-unreleased FFC report is expected to clarify.

US B-2 stealth bombers, GBU-57 bunker buster bombs, Tomahawks, and bases behind the strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities

The United States launched one of the most audacious airstrikes in recent history in the early hours of June 22, targeting three of Iran's most fortified nuclear facilities, Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The operation was spearheaded by the US Air Force 's elite B-2 Spirit stealth bombers and supported by submarine-launched Tomahawk cruise missiles, in a campaign aimed at destroying Iran's nuclear capabilities. President Donald Trump , addressing the nation hours after the strike, declared: 'Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo The weapons used At the centre of the operation were the B-2 Spirit bombers. Stealthy and silent, the B-2 is one of the most advanced aircraft in the world, capable of penetrating the most sophisticated air defenses without being detected. Less than two dozen bombers were ever built, each costing over $2 billion. Live Events What made this mission historic was the payload, the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP). Weighing 30,000 pounds, the MOP is the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal. It is designed specifically to destroy deeply buried bunkers like the Fordow facility, which lies beneath a mountain. Each B-2 can carry two MOPs. Trump confirmed five or six were dropped on Fordow, while 30 Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMs) were fired at the Natanz and Isfahan sites. Launched from the Pacific air base Several B-2 bombers were tracked moving west over the Pacific. By June 21, they were confirmed to be deployed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, a key US outpost roughly 6,000 miles from Iran. It is from here that the US stages its long-range deterrence operations. In sync with Israel The attack was coordinated with Israel, which had already dismantled much of Iran's air defense network, leading up to the US strike through 'Operation Rising Lion.' However, Israel lacked the bunker-busting capacity required for Fordow, prompting its request for American assistance. Republican leaders in Washington praised the mission. Senator Roger Wicker called it 'the correct decision to strike Iran's nuclear sites,' asserting that 'Iran made the choice to continue its pursuit of a nuclear weapon and would only be stopped by force.' But criticism came swiftly from Democrats. Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va) warned that 'the American public is overwhelmingly opposed to the US waging war on Iran' and accused Trump of 'recklessly' bypassing congressional authority. Further escalation? With Iran yet to officially respond, tensions remain dangerously high. The Pentagon has since moved larger aircraft out of Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and placed regional forces on high alert, anticipating potential retaliation from Iran or its proxies. Trump, however, issued a stern warning in his address: 'There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed.'
