Why Jon Gruden has Bengals' Joe Burrow winning 2025 MVP

The post Why Jon Gruden has Bengals' Joe Burrow winning 2025 MVP appeared first on ClutchPoints.
NFL head coach and Barstool Sports' Jon Gruden explained why he's predicting Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will win the 2025 MVP award. While Burrow has set the bar high for himself for the 2025 NFL season, Gruden is picking the Bengals veteran QB to win the prestigious award.
Gruden explained how Burrow impressed him so much, stating he wanted Joe to win MVP last season on Barstool's Pardon My Take.
'I just love Joe Burrow. I voted for Burrow last year,' Gruden said. 'I met him with you at the Super Bowl. I got nervous meeting him. I felt like I was meeting one of my favorite celebrities in life. I wanted to ask for his autograph. That's how good his film is, man. I think he should have won the MVP last year. I mean, this guy's close to winning the triple crown, man. Pass completion percentage, yards, touchdowns, and he gets out of trouble. He is tough as hell.
'And he's such a cool guy, man. If they get a good defense — I'm not saying great — if they get a good defense, and get off to a good start, which they've never done, but they do open with Cleveland and Jacksonville. If they win those games, look out for Burrow and the Bengals,' Gruden concluded.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen won last year's MVP award. Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson and Philadelphia Eagles' champion running back Saquon Barkley finished as the other two finalists. The Bengals finished 9-8, third in the AFC North division last season, and will look to build off their under .500 record with hopes of reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
Burrow received the ultimate compliment from a coach after he was listed in The Athletic's top group of elite NFL quarterbacks.
'To me, it's Mahomes and then Burrow if I had to rank them,' said the coach. 'Burrow could be a 1 with a red cross on him. They don't protect him, and he gets the s— knocked out of him constantly.'
Joe Burrow sets 'close to perfect bar' ahead of Bengals' 2025 season
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is aiming for an MVP-caliber season. He's set the bar to near perfection, per NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
'For myself, I expect to be close to perfect. I think I'm at that level at this point,' Burrow said.
However, as Joe Gruden pointed out, the Bengals' defense will dictate how successful the team will be throughout the 2025 NFL season.

Questions loom over rest of Browns quarterback room after Flacco named the Week 1 starter

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Kevin Stefanski resolved the biggest storyline of the Cleveland Browns training camp by naming Joe Flacco the starting quarterback on Monday. But as is the case with the quarterback position in Brownstown, naming a starter for the Week 1 opener against the Cincinnati Bengals set off a new round of questions. The one at the top of everyone's mind is how long Flacco thinks he can hang on to the job? Of the 10 quarterbacks who have started a game for the Browns since they traded Baker Mayfield in 2022, Flacco is tied for fifth with five starts in 2023, when he went 4-1 and directed Cleveland to its third playoff berth since returning to the league in 1999. 'Well, we all know how that works. I mean, that's everybody in the league, but it's not really my job to look at it in that way. It's just to go out there and play my game. Kind of like I've been doing all training camp and not worrying about all that stuff, just going out there, playing my game and being the best I can," Flacco said Tuesday. "I felt like I was having a good camp with the reps that I was given, and that's all you can do.' Flacco would also become the 11th different quarterback in league history to start a Week 1 game when they were at least 40 years old. Even though Flacco was the only Browns quarterback who has not missed time during training camp because of an injury, Stefanski said the decision went beyond what has transpired for the last month. 'I understand with the injuries, how that may look, that's really not the case here,' he said. "Joe performed really well, both in practice, in the joint practices, in the meeting room, you name it. What he's able to bring to the football team, he's earned that role.' Stefanski has not determined if Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders will be Flacco's backup. General manager Andrew Berry also has one week to determine if the team will indeed keep four quarterbacks on the roster. According to Sportradar, that has happened only five times since 2000. Pickett continues to come back from a hamstring strain but did get some snaps in 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday. Sanders was limited due to an oblique injury. Flacco and the starters will see action in Saturday's preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams, with the amount of playtime left to be determined. 'I think we all feel pretty good. You only get a certain amount of reps out there, and I think we've made the most of it, and I think that's every team in the league to a certain extent," Flacco said. "I think the good thing about this week is, we kind of get to put ourselves through a little bit of a game plan and simulate what we would be doing during the year. I think that's going to give everybody that extra confidence to take that next step.' ___ AP NFL:

Stars duo's double-doubles finally give Liberty win over rival Lynx

They got one. Facing the prospect of finishing the regular season without a win over their main antagonist and chief threat to their bid for back-to-back WNBA titles, the Liberty finally took down the first-place Lynx, 85-75, on Tuesday night at Barclays Center. Jonquel Jones scored a game-high 22 points along with 10 rebounds. Sabrina Ionescu delivered 17 points — including a rainbow logo 3 that sealed the deal with 33 seconds left — and 11 assists, and Natasha Cloud and Leonie Fiebich added 10 points apiece. JASON SZENES/ NY POST The Liberty (22-13) had lost three in a row to the Lynx over the past three weeks, a measure of payback for last year's Finals, which the Liberty won in five brutally hard-fought games. 'We know all the plays they're running, they know all the plays we're running, so it's who executes the scout the best. And they've done that better, you know?' Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello said before the game. 'I think you see their confidence and chemistry that they have in those moments, a little bit better than what we've had.' And the free-throw count, a point of contention Saturday when the Lynx garnered a massive 33-8 advantage, was 18-14 this time in favor of the Liberty. 3 Kennedy Burke #22 of the New York Liberty looks to pass the ball during the game against the Minnesota Lynx on August 19, 2025 at Barclays Center Arena in Brooklyn.
