Where will former Nuggets star Russell Westbrook end up? originally appeared on The Sporting News
In his lone season with the Denver Nuggets, point guard Russell Westbrook gave all he could in his 75 games he appeared in throughout the 2024-25 season.
Starting in 36 of those 75 games in his 17th NBA season, he averaged 13.3 points per game and 6.1 assists as the Nuggets fell in the Western Conference Semifinals in seven games to Westbrook's most notable former team and eventual NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Now that the former NBA MVP's contract is up in the Mile High City, he now ventures throughout the free agency waters, speculation all over the place as always during the offseason.
According to the Denver Nuggets On SI and Legion Hoops, the Sacramento Kings stand out as a prime contender for the future Hall of Famer, with some competition possibly being upon the 36-year-old Westbrook.
"The Sacramento Kings have been in talks with Westbrook for an extended period and have a mutual interest. However, with their deep rotation of guards, including Dennis Schröder, Devin Carter, Keon Ellis and Malik Monk, it could make for a crowded backcourt," Grant Mona of Nuggets On SI.
Mona also brought up the New York Knicks, who are currently looking for a backup point guard.
"The New York Knicks are still looking for a backup point guard, and Westbrook is on a short list of players they are taking a look at. Ben Simmons, who is also a free agent and can play point guard and small-ball center, is among the candidates for New York."
Westbrook still has under three months to find a team, one that he could potentially finally clinch the NBA championship that has eluded him since he was drafted by the Thunder in the 2008 NBA Draft.

The Yankees lost again, and this time Aaron Judge was in the lineup. Packers-Lions season opener draws top broadcast crew at CBS

The Green Bay Packers' season opener against the Detroit Lions will get the top broadcasting crew at CBS. The Week 1 showdown, which is scheduled for a 3:25 p.m. local kickoff time from Lambeau Field on Sunday, Sept. 7, will get Jim Nantz and Tony Romo in the booth and Tracy Wolfson on the sideline for CBS. Being the top game on CBS should mean a majority of the country gets to see Packers-Lions in Week 1. The only other competing game in the same time slot on CBS is Texans-Rams, another terrific matchup. Although the network only announced the first three weeks, Week 1 likely won't be the only time the Packers get the best from CBS in 2025. Matt LaFleur's team plays Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals in the 3:25 p.m. time slot on CBS in Week 6 and the upstart Denver Broncos in the 3:25 p.m. time slot on CBS in Week 15.
