Fuji Singer KWAM 1 Placed on No-Fly List After Airport Drama Unfolds
Last Updated: The drama unfolded during boarding for a flight to Lagos on Tuesday when aviation security personnel asked KWAM 1 to hand over a flask, suspecting it contained alcohol Popular Nigerian fuji singer King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as KWAM 1, has been placed on the country's no-fly list following a dramatic confrontation at Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The directive, issued by Nigerian Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, comes after KWAM 1 allegedly blocked a ValueJet aircraft from taxiing on the tarmac. The drama unfolded during boarding for a flight to Lagos on Tuesday when aviation security personnel asked KWAM 1 to hand over a flask, suspecting it contained alcohol. The singer reportedly refused and allegedly spilled the contents—later confirmed as alcohol—on one of the officers. He was subsequently deboarded. Video footage circulating on social media, including one shared by Keyamo, shows KWAM 1 attempting to physically obstruct the aircraft as it began to move. The singer had to crouch to avoid being struck by the plane's wing. In a social media post on X Thursday, Keyamo confirmed that the singer stood in front of the aircraft on the tarmac, blocking its taxiing, after being denied boarding. Keyamo condemned the entire episode as 'a case of temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides," and likened KWAM 1's behaviour to a hostage situation. 'From all the details so far received, my preliminary impression is that it was obviously a case of temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides which could have led to serious fatalities," the Nigerian minister noted. Keyamo further emphasised that whether the flask contained water or alcohol was irrelevant compared to the seriousness of blocking an aircraft. 'It is the physical blockage of the aircraft from taxiing that is the reprehensible conduct here which akin to a hostage situation," he added. Following the incident, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority also suspended the licences of both the captain and pilot involved. KWAM 1 is an iconic figure in southwest Nigeria, renowned for his traditional fuji music—a genre rooted in the Yoruba community. He is also a close affiliate of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, having performed at numerous party rallies and the presidential inaugural ball in May 2023. Mohit Suri 'Walked Out' After Filming Saiyaara Scene: ‘Ahaan Panday Kisses Aneet's Forehead...'
Mohit Suri recalls the emotional moment on Saiyaara sets that made him walk out mid-shot, saying, 'I am making a very good film.' Even three weeks after its release, Saiyaara continues to charm audiences at the box office. But for director Mohit Suri, the film's real triumph wasn't measured in collections—it was a deeply personal moment that occurred while shooting a quiet, emotional scene. In a conversation with NDTV, Suri revealed that the most defining moment for him came during a piano scene set in Madh Island. Recalling the experience, he shared, 'We were shooting the piano scene, when she says something and he just kisses her forehead and he's leaving. When that shot happened, I just walked out of that… We were shooting in Madh Island, I walked out and Sumana, who's our creative producer, was on set, and I said, 'Sumana, I am making a very good film.'" Suri is known for evoking raw, unfiltered emotions through his stories, and he admitted that the honesty brought in by the cast—Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda—moved him to tears. 'I cry on the monitor. I've cried quite a few times. But I don't like to talk about it because I've seen a lot of directors become mimics of themselves and cry when they don't need to," he added. The Aashiqui 2 director noted that Saiyaara brought him back to his roots, his emotional core and his love for music. 'It feels relieved. The collections are an added bonus, no doubt, but it's the love that's so humbling," he said. 'When you put yourself into a film so much… and you've kept to the essentials, your voice, your emotions… It's amazing to see that India has accepted that." Suri credited the film's producers for giving him the freedom to create without commercial pressure. 'They never gave me a number, never asked for a certain kind of opening or chartbuster. They just said, give us your best film, give us your best music," he said. 'That's what gave me the wings to fly, to be fearless." He concluded by acknowledging producer Aditya Chopra's belief in the film from day one. That early trust, Suri said, gave him the confidence to tell his story his way.
