Ram Charan was last seen in Shankar's Game Changer that failed to create an impression amongst the audience. It also bombed at the box office. Despite a humungous budget, the film could only manage to make Rs 131.17 crore, as per Sacnilk, in India. It was reported that the makers spent Rs 75 crore in shooting four of the songs of the film but director Shankar dismissed those claims. In a chat with Behindwoods TV, Shankar said in Tamil, 'No filmmaker is ever satisfied with their film. I definitely feel like the film could have done better. There were so many good scenes, but they were trimmed, due to which we missed a lot of good things. I can't put every scene in a three-hour film.' He added, 'The total duration of the film had gone up to five hours. It was like carving a statue. If you want to carve a good statue, it is better if it is made of stone.'

Thug Life box office collection day 8: Kamal Haasan-Mani Ratnam film sinks; struggles to reach Rs 50 cr mark after a week in theatres

Thug Life box office collection day 8: Kamal Haasan-starrer Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, has been in the theaters for over a week now but the film's collections have been on a steady decline for the past three days. After eight days in the theatres, the film has only managed to earned Rs 43.37 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. On the eighth day, the film made Rs 1.15 crore, which is even lesser than the seventh day's Rs 1.8 crore. Thug Life started its box office journey with Rs 15.5 crore, which was quite shocking for Kamal and Mani's fans. The film was not released in Karnataka following Kamal's comments on Kannada language being born out of Tamil Language, which seemed to have offended politicians in Karnataka. With the ban in place, Thug Life's opening day collections were severely hampered. Thug Life observed around 15 percent occupancy in Tamil on Thursday, with Chennai hosting 467 shows with around 20 percent occupancy. In Hindi, the occupancy was observed at around 4 percent, and in Telugu, the occupancy was around 12 percent. Hyderabad saw 283 shows with 11 percent occupancy. Shankar's film, which released in 2024, was widely panned and could only make Rs 81 crore in the domestic market. The film was in the making all across the pandemic, and will be followed by Indian 3. However, there have been reports speculating that after the dismal performance of Indian 2, the third part might get shelved. Indian 2 also made Rs 71.7 crore in the first eight days. Before that, Kamal delivered Vikram which earned Rs 424 crore worldwide. For Mani Ratnam, Thug Life has been a huge disappointment. The film was promoted as the comeback of the hit duo of Nayakan, but the bad reviews on the day of the release, and lack of interest from the audience. sank the film over the first weekend. Before this, Mani Ratnam had spent years helming the Ponniyin Selvan films, which were released in two parts in 2022 and 2023. The first part made Rs 266 crore in India, and the second part earned Rs 181 crore in the domestic market.

He also alleged that a puzzle task, set to test the mental agility of the contestants, was mysteriously shelved in the finale. 'There was a puzzle task as well. However, they removed everything where the brain has to be used because they knew if that were the case, then I would win it. I feel extremely bad because it's just so unfair. This shouldn't have happened," he added. Apart from Kushal and Hartaaj, the other finalists were Rishabh Sachdev, Rohit Singh, RD Dedha, and Priya Sharma. Aside from Elvish Yadav, Neha Dhupia, Gautam Gulati, Prince Narula, and Rhea Chakraborty were the gang leaders. First Published:
