Thug Life box office collection day 8: Kamal Haasan-Mani Ratnam film sinks; struggles to reach Rs 50 cr mark after a week in theatres

Thug Life box office collection day 8: Kamal Haasan-starrer Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, has been in the theaters for over a week now but the film's collections have been on a steady decline for the past three days. After eight days in the theatres, the film has only managed to earned Rs 43.37 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. On the eighth day, the film made Rs 1.15 crore, which is even lesser than the seventh day's Rs 1.8 crore.
Thug Life started its box office journey with Rs 15.5 crore, which was quite shocking for Kamal and Mani's fans. The film was not released in Karnataka following Kamal's comments on Kannada language being born out of Tamil Language, which seemed to have offended politicians in Karnataka. With the ban in place, Thug Life's opening day collections were severely hampered.
Thug Life observed around 15 percent occupancy in Tamil on Thursday, with Chennai hosting 467 shows with around 20 percent occupancy. In Hindi, the occupancy was observed at around 4 percent, and in Telugu, the occupancy was around 12 percent. Hyderabad saw 283 shows with 11 percent occupancy.

The collections of Thug Life are a huge letdown for Kamal Haasan, who was last seen in Indian 2. Shankar's film, which released in 2024, was widely panned and could only make Rs 81 crore in the domestic market. The film was in the making all across the pandemic, and will be followed by Indian 3. However, there have been reports speculating that after the dismal performance of Indian 2, the third part might get shelved. Indian 2 also made Rs 71.7 crore in the first eight days. Before that, Kamal delivered Vikram which earned Rs 424 crore worldwide.
For Mani Ratnam, Thug Life has been a huge disappointment. The film was promoted as the comeback of the hit duo of Nayakan, but the bad reviews on the day of the release, and lack of interest from the audience. sank the film over the first weekend. Before this, Mani Ratnam had spent years helming the Ponniyin Selvan films, which were released in two parts in 2022 and 2023. The first part made Rs 266 crore in India, and the second part earned Rs 181 crore in the domestic market.

Ajay Devgn Backs 8-Hour Shifts For Moms Amid Deepika's Spirit Exit: ‘Most Honest Filmmakers…'

Last Updated: Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Spirit sparks debate on work hours for new mothers. Ajay Devgn weighs in. The buzz around Deepika Padukone's reported departure from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's upcoming film Spirit has taken a fresh turn. Reports suggest the actress, who recently embraced motherhood, had requested to work no more than eight hours a day — a clause that reportedly didn't sit well with the filmmaker. Now, industry veterans Ajay Devgn and Kajol have weighed in on the ongoing conversation. During the trailer launch of Kajol's next film Maa, Ajay was asked how Hindi filmmakers are reacting to the idea of actors, especially new mothers, wanting shorter work hours. Ajay responded, 'It's not that it's not going down well with people." He added, 'Most honest filmmakers will not have problems with it. And apart from this, being a mother and working for eight hours, most people have started working eight-nine hours shifts." Kajol chimed in adding, 'I love the fact that you can work less," she said. While they refrained from naming anyone specifically, Ajay summed it up by saying, 'It's person to person, and I feel most of the industry understands this." Kajol is a mother of two herself. She has daughter Nysa Devgn and son Yug Devgn, with Ajay Devgn. Deepika Padukone-Sandeep Reddy Vanga Feud Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga's recent post on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked a big controversy. Even though the director did not name Deepika Padukone, he penned down a cryptic note which left netizens assured that he was slamming the actress. This comes days after Deepika was ousted from Vanga's next movie, Spirit, which also stars Prabhas in the lead. Reports indicated that Deepika Padukone was set to receive the highest paycheck of her career for her role in the Prabhas starrer. It was rumoured that the actress would earn a staggering Rs 20 crore for this project. But, a few days later, it was reported that Sandeep Reddy Vanga had removed Deepika Padukone from Spirit. Reports suggest that her demands, including eight-hour workdays, a high salary, and a share in the film's profits, did not sit well with director Vanga. Deepika, a new mother, is reportedly seeking to balance her work and personal life by reducing her working hours. This decision led to her departure from the film, which would have been her second collaboration with Prabhas after their recent project, Kalki 2898 AD. First Published:

Actor Kamal Haasan Loses Cool Over Sword Gift Stunt at MNM Meet Amid Language Row Fallout

Tempers flared at a Makkal Needhi Maiam meeting in Chennai as party chief Kamal Haasan lost his cool after a supporter attempted to gift him a sword on stage. Initially smiling for the cameras, Haasan quickly turned angry as the situation spiraled into chaos. A police officer intervened and secured the weapon, while security removed the man. Known for his rationalist and non-violent stance, Haasan's outburst comes at a time when he is already facing backlash over his Kannada language remark during the 'Thug Life' audio launch. His comment that 'Kannada was born from Tamil' has caused controversy, leading to the film being withheld from release in Karnataka. This Father's Day Cake For Rs 5 Lakh Will Make You Rub Your Eyes In Disbelief

Last Updated: Most of the prices look normal, with a 500 gm Butterscotch Cake listed at Rs 400 and a 500 gm Red Velvet Cake priced at Rs 599. The unnatural cake pricing was probably a typo or technical glitch. (Photo Credit: X) Surprising your dad with a yummy cake is one of the sweetest ways to celebrate Father's Day. But what if the cake you choose is priced at a jaw-dropping Rs 5 lakh? Sounds unreal, right? That's exactly what shocked the internet recently. Ahead of Father's Day on June 15, a screenshot from a food delivery app or website has gone viral for listing a Hazelnut Chocolate Cake with an unbelievable price tag. While it's likely a technical glitch or a simple typo, it didn't stop social media users from reacting with shock and laughter. The now-viral screenshot shows a landing page featuring Father's Day special cakes. Most of the prices look normal — a 500 gm Butterscotch Cake is listed at Rs 400 and a 500 gm Red Velvet Cake is priced at Rs 599. But then comes the surprise: a 500 gm Hazelnut Chocolate Cake marked at Rs 500,000. The user who posted the image on X (formerly Twitter) added a note that read, '5 lakh Cake. This is a very suspicious thing, so you guys must have to check and have a look at this." #5lakhcake This is really a very suspension thing so you guy's must have to check and have a look on this. — Parul patel (@aur_btau_kya) June 13, 2025 The post also went viral on Reddit. The tagline read, 'I just came across this Father's Day special cake. Uhm, what is going on???? Since when have we started paying so much for cakes?". Here are some of the reactions it received. 'Bro, do not complain. At least they gave you 40 per cent off," commented a user sarcastically. '5000 me 5 cakes aajaenge and 5 lakh me 5 iPhone lol (You can get 5 cakes for Rs 5000, but only 5 iPhones for Rs 5 lakh lol)," pointed out another. One person rationalised the situation, saying, 'It is an obvious error." '5 lakh me toh mere gaon me puri bakery aa jayegi (For Rs 5 lakh, I could buy an entire bakery in my village!)" joked another. '80000+ ka delivery charge bhi le rahe hain (They are taking a delivery charge of Rs 8000 also)," read a funny remark. First Published: June 14, 2025, 19:24 IST
