The Buccaneers fans need to stream this 'masterpiece' drama film from the same author
The Buccaneers fans are encouraged to give this sumptuous period masterpiece a try as it's inspired by another novel by acclaimed author, Edith Wharton.
Apple TV+'s popular drama set during the Gilded Age recently returned for its second season, which will conclude next Wednesday, 6th August.
It follows a band of five wealthy, rebellious young women who move from the United States to London in the 1870s and immediately cause a stir with scandals, affairs and criminal activities.
Based on an unfinished novel by Wharton, The Buccaneers has developed a passionate cult following thanks to its provocative feminist themes and outrageous plot twists and storylines.
While fans are waiting for a potential third season, this 1993 film based on arguably Wharton's most celebrated novel is definitely worth your attention.
Directed by Hollywood visionary Martin Scorsese and featuring an all-star cast led by Daniel Day Lewis, Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfeiffer, The Age of Innocence is currently streaming on Prime Video.
This sweeping romance, also set in the 1870s, follows a wealthy New York attorney who finds himself caught between two women, conformist May Welland (played by Ryder) and unconventional Countess Ellen Olenska (Pfeiffer).
Best known for crime epics such as Goodfellas and The Wolf of Wall Street, many movie buffs insist The Age of Innocence is secretly one of Scorsese's best films.
One effusive five-star Google review piled on the praise: 'This film is every bit as brutal as the vintage Scorsese mafia films. Only, here it's all emotional. No dead bodies. The film is a lesson in diplomacy and subtlety to a world that has become almost irredeemably overt.
'The cast is marvellous, includes some all time greats. The costumes, cinematography - very appealing. Underrated. Masterpiece.'
Someone else agreed: 'Such an intelligent and beautifully made Scorsese film, faithful to the novel for which Edith Wharton won a Pulitzer Prize.
'Watching this movie again, 32 years later, the young actors are all so strikingly gorgeous, especially the radiant Michelle Pfeiffer. The theme of an individual struggling against the constraints of society is timeless.'
The praise continued over on Letterboxd, where one fan raved: 'One of the great underrated films of the 1990s and probably the most neglected film of Martin Scorsese's career.
'It is a brilliant costume drama with a repressed but emotive performance from Daniel Day Lewis, matched in almost every scene by Michelle Pfeiffer.'
And a final user made a bold declaration: 'Rewatch confirms what I've suspected for a while: this is Martin Scorsese's very best movie.'
Readers and cinephiles alike shouldn't miss out on this opportunity to dive into the rich and heartbreaking world of The Age of Innocence at their nearest opportunity.
The Age of Innocence is available to stream on Prime Video. The Buccaneers season 2 concludes Wednesday, 6th August on Apple TV+.

Prime Video adds 'exhilarating' action thriller compared to Jason Statham masterpiece
The new addition to streaming is said to be the perfect watch for action fans Weekend in Taipei trailer Prime Video has added an 'exhilarating' action thriller which has been compared to a Jason Statham 'masterpiece'. Weekend In Taipei only had a limited cinematic release in select territories at the end of last year. Now, UK audiences can see it for themselves, providing they have an Amazon Prime subscription. According to the synopsis, a former DEA agent and an ex-undercover operative rekindle their romance during a weekend in Taipei. As they reconnect, they're oblivious to the looming dangers stemming from their past operations. Leading the cast are Fast and Furious franchise and Obi Wan Kenobi star Sung Kang. He is joined by Luke Evans, known for his previous roles in The Pembrokeshire Murders, Nine Perfect Strangers, Dracula Untold as well as playing Gaston in The Beauty and the Beast live-action remake. Weekend in Taipei was directed by George Huang and co-written by acclaimed filmmaker Luc Besson, who also helmed classic hits such as Leon The Professional, The Fifth Element and Lucy. He also penned The Transporter and Taken movies. While it received a somewhat mixed reaction from critics who did review it at the time of its release, plenty of audience members look upon it more favourably. While they recognise it is not a shoe-in for an awards season, they appreciate its dedication to the action genre. One person, who has already seen the film, immediately compared it to a recent surprise hit starring Jason Statham, The Beekeeper. That title was described as "an adrenaline-fueled joyride that is Jason Statham's latest masterpiece." Making their comparison, the person said: "Like The Beekeeper earlier this year, I went into this expecting a by-the-numbers action flick and ended up enjoying myself from beginning to end. What both films also have in common is a script that's acutely aware of how ridiculous it is and in doing so never takes things too seriously." They continued: "Weekend in Taipei also has the benefit of a surprisingly solid amount of chemistry between Luke Evans and Lun-Mei Gwei as well as a deft hand by director George Huang and some jaw dropping fight and action choreography (seriously, it's REALLY good)." Another added: "An exhilarating, non-stop thrill ride! Think Bullet Train meets Fast & Furious, with a dash of John Wick's intense action. A perfect blend of high-octane stunts, sharp wit, and unforgettable characters! Definitely watch!" Meanwhile someone else claimed: "Typical Luc Besson, an enjoyable simple action movie with the chemistry between the two leads. It's not going to win an Oscar but it's one and a half hours where you can disengage your brain and be entertained."

'Pure gold' teen comedy sums up the 1990s now streaming on Netflix
'Pure gold' teen comedy sums up the 1990s now streaming on Netflix The 1995 teen comedy about Cher Horowitz, a wealthy, stylish and endlessly optimistic high school student in Beverly Hills, has landed on Netflix The film is streaming on Netflix A timeless classic that culturally influenced and mirrored an entire generation of audiences has arrived on Netflix. What would subsequently inspire countless Halloween outfits, endless quotations and a lasting position in pop culture history initially began as a television pilot in 1993. "Twentieth Century Fox said they wanted a show about teenagers - but not the nerds. They wanted it to be about the cool kids," explained writer and director Amy Heckerling in a DVD-exclusive special feature. Heckerling, who had studied Jane Austen's Emma in college, decided to create a modern spin on the character. "I started to think, 'What's the larger context for that kind of a 'nothing can go wrong, always looks through rosecoloured glasses' kind of girl? So I tried to take all the things that were in this sort of pretty 1800s world and see what that would be like if it was in Beverly Hills.", reports the Express. Alicia Silverstone in a scene from the 1995 classic (Image: Getty) This gave birth to Clueless - the 1995 teen comedy featuring Cher Horowitz, a wealthy, fashionable and perpetually optimistic sixth-form student in Beverly Hills, who embarks on helping others whilst managing friendships, relationships and her own personal development. Alongside her best pal Dionne (both named after famous singers), Cher chooses to give new transfer pupil Tai a makeover and steer her through the school's social pecking order - only to discover herself experiencing a transformation of her own. Nearly 30 years later, the film's appeal remains undiminished. One viewer praised, "Alicia Silverstone is pure gold". Another said: "It might be 30 years old now, but it still stands the test of time. An enjoyable movie that doesn't feel old and is as relevant now as it was then." Another described it as "by far the best movie ever made about rich teenagers. It's so funny you'll watch it over and over again. This movie is a solid classic for life." For many who grew up with it, Clueless is more than just a comedy. "As a kid of the 90s, I always enjoy watching it. The fashion, the dialogues... it's a feelgood film. It's a shame (teen) films are not like that anymore," said another fan. Article continues below Clever, sophisticated and endlessly quotable, Clueless is regarded by many as the definitive teen film of its generation - and as one reviewer put it: "If you haven't seen this film, then you're missing out on what it felt like to be a teenager in the 90s. A+." Clueless is now available to stream on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+ and more.
