Shah Rukh Khan Once Promised Gauri He Would Buy Mannat, Recalls Aziz Mirza: 'He Made It Happen'
For Shah Rukh Khan, Mannat was once just a dream glimpsed from a distance — a dream he fulfilled against all odds.
For millions of fans, Shah Rukh Khan's residence, Mannat, isn't just a home — it's a symbol of dreams fulfilled. Over the past two decades, the superstar's palatial mansion at Bandra Bandstand has become one of Mumbai's biggest tourist attractions, drawing visitors from every corner of the country. But few know that once upon a time, Mannat was just a distant dream for the young actor who had only begun to carve his path to superstardom.
Back in 1997, while shooting Aziz Mirza's Yes Boss, Shah Rukh filmed the popular song 'Chaand Taare" right outside the property that would eventually become his prized possession. As fate would have it, during one of his strolls with wife Gauri, Shah Rukh reportedly pointed to the grand villa and promised her that one day, it would be theirs. At that time, the house was owned by the Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust.
Recalling those days, director Aziz Mirza shared in an interview with Radio Nasha, 'Shah Rukh was staying at my house, Devdoot, which was very close to Mannat. He and Gauri were young then, full of dreams. I remember they used to go on walks, and I'm sure during one such stroll, he must have promised her that he would buy that house someday. Life was good to him, and he was fortunate enough to make that dream come true."
Aziz further added, 'I clearly remember, once while shooting near Cafe Seaside, he pointed towards Mannat and told me, 'Aziz, I've bought that house.' Of course, there were many challenges — legal formalities with the municipality and issues with the neighboring properties — but eventually, he overcame them all."
Interestingly, after purchasing the house, Shah Rukh and Gauri initially named it Jannat (meaning 'Paradise"). However, in 2005, they renamed it Mannat — a word that perfectly encapsulates the story behind it: a heartfelt wish that destiny turned into reality.
Today, Mannat is estimated to be worth over ₹200 crore. Recently, the Khan family temporarily vacated the house to accommodate major renovations. They have relocated to a luxury apartment complex in Bandra, leasing two duplex apartments from producer Vashu Bhagnani. The apartments come with a hefty rent of ₹24 lakh per month, totaling ₹2.9 crore annually across four floors.

The Air India Presents Power Creator Awards 2025, backed by The Times of India, honoured creators who are changing the game with their fresh, original content in areas like food, fashion, technology, beauty, travel and more. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Among the stars who joined the celebration was Bollywood's original 'Bad Man', . The actor, known for his iconic villain roles in films like 'Ram Lakhan', 'Mohra' and 'Yes Boss', took to the stage to present an award and also shared what kind of content he would make if he became a digital creator himself. 'This is a very, very unusual award' Gulshan Grover started his speech by praising the event and how it highlighted creators doing exceptional work. He said, 'Congratulations to Times Entertainment for moving with times. In fact, moving ahead of times. This is a very, very unusual award being given to such tremendously talented people that we are aware of their work, partially, but we were not aware of how diverse work, how wonderful work is being done by such young talented people.' Grover added,'There was so much interesting work being done by these creators. I am extremely happy that I came this evening to be part of this award.' What content would he create? When asked what kind of content he would create if he had a channel, Gulshan Grover shared an interesting story. 'I was in Australia doing some live shows in different cities, and actor , a friend of mine, and that I met him after a long time. Ashish does this food channel. He was also there, and wherever we went, he was constantly, constantly covering food, food, food. I said interesting, he is an actor and he found food, covering food, talking about food interesting.' Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He said the thought stayed with him, 'When I came back to the hotel and I was thinking if I was to do this, what would it be? What is it that fascinates me?' He added, 'Of course, being a bad man, being a villain on screen, doing this for multiple years is fascinating, interesting. I would like to sort of work around that. I would also like to meet, interview, and talk to people who have played these wonderful bad man roles.' He continued with a bold opinion about acting, 'Because in my opinion, to be a hero, you need to be good looking and an average actor. To be a bad man, you have to be a very, very good actor. It's because you are playing the same part over and over again. What you are going to do is known. That you are going to be bad, terrible. But how you present it, how you perform it, how you do it, how some fashion guy dresses you up, makes you look interesting, how the whole persona and everything works on screen, there are so many different facets. ' He added, 'So therefore, playing a villain is extremely difficult. So I would definitely like to cover all that.' The Power Creator Awards 2025 is a celebration of the creative energy sweeping across the country's digital space. ‘Shah Rukh Khan and I hit it off immediately': Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos on his equation with the Bollywood star
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos opened up about his friendship with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. In an interview with Nikhil Kamath, Ted talked about how Shah Rukh was one of the first celebrities he met as soon as he came to India before the release of the OTT platform's first Indian series, Sacred Games, in 2018. (Also Read: Ed Sheeran drops new song Sapphire with desi beats, Arijit Singh vocals. All Shah Rukh Khan fans care about is his cameo) Ted was asked to name an Indian celebrity who's his 'favourite' and he said that he shares a good equation with Shah Rukh. He recollected, 'Early in coming to India, I met Shah Rukh Khan right away. He hosted a very nice dinner for me, and we hit it off immediately. I've come back since, with my wife, and we've had nice times together. We visited each other in Los Angeles when his son was in school. So, having dinner with Shah Rukh Khan in India is much different than having dinner with him in Los Angeles.' Shah Rukh's son Aryan Khan's The Ba***ds of Bollywood will soon drop on Netflix. In the same interview, Ted mentioned that he was also bowled over by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his 2024 show Heeramandi, which he says felt like a 'dare'. He said, 'Doing Heeramandi was probably one of the most creatively interesting projects I've ever worked on in India. He (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) came in with his very big vision, almost like it was a dare. I dare you to make this, it's so big. And remember, he's a cinema legend. So, the idea that he was gonna make a TV show is almost unheard of. I think he came for us to say no. And when we said yes, it was a complicated production.' Shah Rukh was last seen in the 2023 films Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He is now shooting for King, with director Siddharth Anand, his daughter Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan as his co-stars.
