Coronation Street Daniel actor's real-life romance with co-star leaves fans floored
Coronation Street viewers were stunned to discover that Rob Mallard, who portrays Daniel Osbourne, is in a relationship with a fellow soap star.
Daniel, brought to life by Rob since 1995, has become an integral part of the show as Ken Barlow's (William Roache) son, entangled in numerous high-stakes plots.
His Weatherfield journey has been anything but dull, marked by tumultuous love affairs, a near-fatal attack on his father, and the tragic loss of his wife Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn).
Recently, Daniel's woes continued as he faced heartache when Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) departed from the street after a five-year stint.
However, it's Rob Mallard's off-screen romance that has left fans agape, as they learned he's dating a familiar face from the soap world, reports OK!.
Earlier in the year, Rob's partner Matthew Martin made a cameo on the cobbles as a police officer who arrested Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) in a nail-biting scene.
Matthew took to Instagram in February to express his excitement about his role, posting a photo with Rob and praising him for his support.
He captioned the post: "Ey mam! I'm on the telly box! Quite a surreal time being pulled in SUPER last minute to step in as a Policeman to arrest Cassie Plummer. All thanks to @mossy737 for giving me the opportunity to work on the iconic show that is @coronationstreet and of course my lad @rob.mallard for being the biggest support and showing me the ropes."
Fans were absolutely stunned after working out why Matthew looked so familiar to them. One viewer exclaimed: "I thought I recognised them well then! !"
Another fan wrote: "Amazing and well done. How wonderful for Rob too. This is a great photo of you both!" A third added: "Bring you boyfriend to work day! Lol...ahhhh amazing xx."
In the past, Rob was romantically linked with fellow cast member Daniel Brocklebank, who portrays vicar Billy Mayhew on the cobbles. The soap actors were an item in 2017 and made their official public appearance as a couple at the British LGBT awards.
Nevertheless, they parted ways just two months after confirming their romance publicly.
