Hijackers kill truck driver near Kariega
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said a hijacking and murder case was under investigation.
The incident occurred on the R75 near Kariega at about 6.10am.
'The driver of the truck was travelling on the R75 en route to Graaff-Reinet, when a vehicle came from behind and stopped in front of the truck, forcing him to come to a halt.
'Two armed suspects [climbed out] the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the driver, demanding that he get out of the truck.
'A scuffle ensued and the driver was shot.'
Janse van Rensburg said the two hijackers then climbed into the truck and drove off with it.
The truck was abandoned later.
The investigation is ongoing.
The police also appealed to anyone with information about the incident to call 082-442-0964, Crime Stop on 08600-10111, or their nearest police station.

Nyaope and Rock worth about R280,000 seized in Hillbrow bust
The Johannesburg metro police department's (JMPD) tactical response unit and the undercover unit have seized drugs worth about R280,000 in Hillbrow. The department carried out an operation on Wednesday after receiving a tip-off. An estimated R92,000 worth of Rock and R187,500 of Nyaope was confiscated. JMPD chief of police commissioner Patrick Jaca said no arrests have been made so far; however, JMPD has launched a manhunt for those responsible for the operation. Death toll from Angolan fuel hike protests rises to 22, says government
Angola's government said on Wednesday the death toll from violent protests against a fuel price hike has risen to 22 from the previous day's estimate of four. The unrest broke out on Monday when minibus taxi associations launched a three-day strike against a government decision to increase the price of diesel by one-third, part of efforts to curb costly subsidies and shore up public finances. Looting, vandalism and clashes with police started in the capital Luanda, then spread to other provinces. President Joao Lourenco's cabinet met on Wednesday and received an update on the security situation and police response. A presidency statement said there had been 22 deaths, 197 people injured and 1,214 arrests. Sixty-six shops and 25 vehicles had been vandalised, and some supermarkets and warehouses looted, the statement said.
