Penampang PKR slams Donald Mojuntin's claim on Moyog seat
Published on: Tue, Jun 24, 2025 Text Size: PENAMPANG: PKR Penampang has rebuked Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin's recent public statement expressing his intent to contest the Moyog seat, calling it premature and disrespectful to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) seat negotiation process. Penampang PKR Youth Chief Eldridge Laurence Timis claimed that Moyog is traditionally a PH seat calling it 'a fact no one can deny'. 'Any announcement on seat allocations must come from the PH Presidential Council, not from individuals acting unilaterally,' he said in a statement. He stressed that PKR is fully prepared for the upcoming state election and will support any PH-endorsed candidate, but warned against moves that could confuse the public and undermine coalition unity. 'We urge Upko to respect the coalition spirit. No one party or individual should act above the collective process. Russian Defence Ministry/Handout via REUTERS MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian forces have made a sudden thrust into eastern Ukraine near the coal mining town of Dobropillia, a move that may be designed to increase the pressure on Kyiv to cede land as the U.S. and Russian presidents prepare to meet. Ukraine's authoritative DeepState war map showed on Tuesday that Russian forces had advanced by at least 10 km (six miles) north in two prongs in recent days, part of their drive to take full control of Ukraine's Donetsk region. The advance is one of the most dramatic in the last year. DeepState said the Russians had surged forward near three villages on a section of the frontline associated with the Ukrainian towns of Kostyantynivka and Pokrovsk, which Moscow is trying to encircle, exploiting Kyiv's lack of manpower. "The situation is quite chaotic, as the enemy, having found gaps in the defence, is infiltrating deeper, trying to quickly consolidate and accumulate forces for further advancement," DeepState said on its Telegram channel. U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to discuss a possible deal to end the war in Ukraine when they meet in Alaska on Friday. Unconfirmed media reports say Putin has told Trump he wants Ukraine to hand over the part of the Donetsk region that Russia does not control. There was no immediate comment on the advance from Moscow. Ukrainian military spokesperson Viktor Trehubov said only small groups were penetrating defensive lines, and that this did not amount to a breakthrough. Pasi Paroinen, a military analyst with the Finland-based Black Bird Group, said the situation had escalated rapidly, with Russian forces infiltrating past Ukrainian lines to a depth of roughly 17 km (10 miles) during the past three days. "Forwardmost Russian units have reportedly reached the Dobropillia – Kramatorsk road T0514 and Russian infiltration groups have also been reported near Dobropillia proper," he wrote on X. RUSSIA MAY GAIN LEVERAGE FOR TRUMP TALKS Tatarigami_UA, a former Ukrainian army officer whose Frontelligence Insight analysis tracks the conflict, posted: "In both 2014 and 2015, Russia launched major offensives ahead of negotiations to gain leverage. The current situation is serious, but far from the collapse some suggest." Sergei Markov, a former Kremlin adviser, said the Russians had been able to advance due to "a partial collapse in the front" due to Ukraine's shortage of soldiers. Ukraine has redeployed elite forces to try to thwart the advance, Russia's Interfax news agency and Ukrainian war bloggers reported. "This breakthrough is like a gift to Putin and Trump during the negotiations," Markov said, suggesting it could increase pressure on Kyiv to cede some land to prevent the Russian army eventually taking the rest of Donetsk by force. To do that, though, Russian forces would first need to take control of Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka and Kostiantynivka - four places Russian military analysts call "fortress cities". Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has publicly pushed back against the idea of ceding territory to Russia, saying any peace deal must be a just one. Bohdan Krotevych, former chief of staff of Ukraine's Azov brigade and a National Guard lieutenant colonel, took to X late on Monday to warn Zelenskiy of the threat, saying the frontline in the area was "a complete mess". Strong state-federal ties crucial for Sabah's progress, says Hajiji
RANAU: A robust partnership between the Sabah state government and the federal administration is essential for sustaining development in the region, according to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. Hajiji, who chairs Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), highlighted that the collaborative governance under the GRS-Pakatan Harapan (PH) alliance has significantly advanced Sabah's progress. He emphasised the importance of stability and unity with the federal government to ensure prosperity for the people. Under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development agenda, more than 400 initiatives have been introduced, with 94% successfully executed. Hajiji noted that the GRS-PH government has rolled out unprecedented aid programmes for education and public welfare. This year, nearly 100,000 hardcore poor households in Sabah are receiving monthly assistance of RM300, a scheme set to continue if the coalition retains public support in the upcoming state election. The GRS Supreme Council has agreed to uphold its existing cooperation with PH for the election, reinforcing their shared commitment to Sabah's development. The 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly will dissolve automatically on 11 November unless an earlier dissolution occurs. Separately, Hajiji announced that the state government, via the Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (LPPB), remains dedicated to alleviating urban and rural poverty through new township projects. The Paginatan New Township, spanning 200 acres and located 43 km from Ranau, is expected to stimulate the local economy. GRS-PH cooperation formula to continue - Hajiji

RANAU (Aug 12): Chief Minister and GRS chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor reiterated that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) supreme council has agreed to maintain the present formula of cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming state election. He said history has shown that a state government needs to have a strong relationship with the Federal Government. 'We want strong ties with the Federal Government. We want stability and we hope the people will understand that we are doing the best for them. To bring prosperity to them,' he said this during the ground-breaking ceremony for the Paginatan new township held at the Nunuk Ragang Memorial open-air hall, near here on Tuesday. The Chief Minister said the present GRS-PH State Government's track record of bringing progress to Sabah has been proven. 'We have more than 400 initiatives under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya development agenda, and about 94 per cent of them have already been implemented,' he said. Hajiji said this was contrary to the opposition's claim, which he said was intended to pull wool over the people's eyes. Hajiji said the GRS-PH government had approved numerous assistance programmes for the state's education development and people's prosperity, which had never been done by other state governments before. 'This year alone, we are giving monthly assistance of RM300 to nearly 100,000 hardcore poor, and this initiative will be continued if the people returned the mandate to GRS-PH in the coming election,' he said. He also said that the GRS-PH State Government had succeeded in getting greater participation in the oil and gas sector through the historic signing of the Commercial Collaborative Agreement (CCA) with Petronas in 2021. Earlier, he said that the State Government, through the Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (SHTDA), is committed to continuing its agenda of addressing urban and rural poverty in the state through the new township development programme. He said the long-awaited Paginatan New Township project is expected to drive the local economy in the area, in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development roadmap, which at its core, aims at prioritising the well-being of the people and improving their quality of life. The 200-acre new township, located approximately 43 km from here, will be developed in five phases, involving the construction of various important amenities, including government offices, shops, low-cost housing, multi-purpose hall, library, health centre, market, police and fire stations. Once completed, the people in Paginatan would no longer have to go to Ranau or Telupid to deal with government departments, he said. Hajiji also assured that issues affecting the people in Paginatan constituency that were raised by its assemblyman, Datuk Abidin Madingkir, would be addressed.
