‘Rahul Gandhi always understands things too late': Shivraj Singh Chouhan on OBC remarks row
Chouhan's remarks came a day after LoP Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the 'Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan' organised for the OBC community, admitted that not conducting a caste census earlier was his mistake.
LoP Rahul Gandhi had said, "I regret that if I had known more about your history and issues, I would have got the caste census conducted. That is my mistake and not that of Congress. I am going to correct that mistake now."
Responding to the statement, Chouhan told reporters, "Rahul Gandhi always understands things too late. First, he apologised for the Emergency, then for the 1984 Sikh riots, and now to the OBC community. But what has Congress ever done for the OBCs?"
"Let them answer who shelved the Mandal Commission report. Congress has consistently suppressed efforts for OBC welfare, and then issued apologies after the damage is done," he said.
The Union Minister added, "He (Rahul Gandhi) even apologised over Rafale. And mark my words -- ten years from now, Rahul Gandhi will be apologising again for what he's doing today. Apology seems to be his destiny."
On the occasion of the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Chouhan also paid heartfelt tributes to the Indian Armed Forces, hailing their bravery and sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil conflict.
"I bow to the bravery of our soldiers. Their courage deserves reverence. If we fail to honour these heroes, we diminish the very essence of heroism. I salute those soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil conflict," he said.
Taking a dig at the Congress party, Chouhan said, "During the UPA regime, the Congress never commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas. One of their MPs even remarked that the war was fought under an NDA government -- as if wars belong to governments, not nations. I ask them: Is any war ever the property of a political party, or is it a matter of national defence?"
He went on to accuse Congress of undermining the success of Operation Sindoor.
"Their mindset borders on anti-national. In opposing the Prime Minister, they have begun opposing the country itself. They echo Pakistan's narrative -- Pakistan even cites their statements as examples on global platforms. But we stand humbled before the valour of our armed forces," Chouhan said.

Kharge tells govt to fix accountability
New Delhi: Launching a volley of attacks on the Centre during the debate on Operation Sindoor in the Rajya Sabha, Congress president Kharge on Tuesday said "factories of lies" have been set up and demanded that accountability be fixed for repeated intelligence failures. Extending his condolences to the families of those killed in the Pahalgam attack on April 22, the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said members of the treasury benches, in their speeches, have tried to deflect attention from the issues at hand. "Our history is a long one. The history of the Congress is a long one. Our contribution to nation-building has been immense. There is not one Public Sector Unit that you have set up. You have only set up factories of lies. Then you talk about HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) and other PSUs that we have created," Kharge said in Hindi. Pointing to the 2016 Uri and Pathankot terrorist attacks, the Pulwama attack in 2019 and Pahalgam this year, Kharge alleged that the government has to admit there have been repeated intelligence failures. "I want to ask the Home Minister, who is responsible for this? If he is responsible, accountability should be fixed... There have been five attacks in Pahalgam alone since the BJP government came to power.

'Nehru responsible': Shah brings up UNSC in Op Sindoor debate
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday traced history back to India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru as he criticised successive Congress governments for an alleged lack of strength in their foreign policy, particularly towards Pakistan. 'Today, China is in the United Nations Security Council, and India is not,' Shah said, referring purportedly to permanent membership of the UNSC. "Jawaharlal Nehru's stand is responsible for this... When our jawans were facing Chinese soldiers in Doklam, Rahul Gandhi was holding a meeting with the Chinese ambassador... This love for China has passed down three generations from Jawaharlal Nehru, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi..." Shah alleged. 'PM Narendra Modi is trying his best to get India to become a part of the UN Security Council,' he added. He said that during the 1962 war with China, 'then PM Nehru bid goodbye to Assam in a speech on Akashvani (state radio)'. 'Back in 1948 too,' Shah claimed, 'Indian armed forces were in a decisive position to take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, but then PM Nehru declared unilateral ceasefire.'. From the Opposition's side, DMK MP Kanimozhi later referred to the mention of Nehru. 'It seems you people in the BJP remember Nehru much more than even his party Congress does. You say he is responsible for all the mistakes,' the Tamil Nadu MP said, adding that the government must 'strive to unite the country, and not see us as enemies'.
