WHAT HAPPENED?
Nagelsmann became the most expensive German coach in history when Bayern paid €25 million (£22m/$29m) to Leipzig for his services in 2021. He won the Bundesliga in his debut season but suffered a Champions League exit at the hands of Unai Emery's Villarreal. In the following campaign, a run of poor domestic results and strained relationships within the dressing room led to his dismissal, with Thomas Tuchel replacing him as Bayern manager in 2023.

Nagelsmann was just 33 when he agreed to leave RB Leipzig for the Bavarian giants and admits that the switch to the Allianz Arena may have been premature, suggesting he could have achieved more had he stayed where he was.

Naggelsmann said: "Looking back, I left a bit too early. There are also players who sometimes move somewhere too early. I guess I did that too even though it wasn't a mistake to go to Bayern, but in retrospect, I felt really comfortable here and could have achieved a lot more with the club."
Speaking about the move, Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff expressed his regret over letting Nagelsmann leave, saying: 'For me, Julian Nagelsmann was the best coach I've ever experienced. An outstanding coach."

Now it requires more than just clever free play. You also need to be able to handle the ball!' Supporters were particularly annoyed by his lack of presence in midfield and his lack of possession. 'Look at how Steijn is walking. Not a decent touch or a proper pass. And captain? What a joke,' one player said sharply. Another added: 'Steijn runs too much towards the ball and with it. You should pick up your man, not run with the ball.' That he was appointed captain of the team by Robin van Persie is surprising. 'Why would you make Steijn captain if you're not even sure if he'll play?' one supporter wondered. Another was more blunt: 'They're laughing their heads off at FC Twente.' While Steijn received the most criticism, there were also concerns about other players. Up front, centre forward Ueda once again looked out of his depth. 'Ueda is such a weak link. Get a striker,' was a frequent refrain. 'We'll play with 10 men as long as he's still there.' The Japanese striker was again criticised for being unable to hold onto the ball or be available for a pass. 'Ueda really likes to eat grass,' someone cynically remarked. Leo Sauer, while energetic in the first half, also completely regressed in the second. 'Sauer can't handle this level yet,' he repeatedly said. 'His tank is simply empty after 60 minutes.' Supporters clamoured for a substitution, which was made after 61 minutes by Robin van Persie. Hamburg sign Warmed Omari on loan from Rennes
Hamburg have officially confirmed the signing of centre-back Warmed Omari on loan from Stade Rennes. Virtually all German footballing media outlets confirm that a purchase option is part of the deal. The 25-year-old may remain with the newly promoted Bundesliga outfit for much longer. Kicker reports that Omari's arrival constitutes the end of Hamburg's pursuit of Austrian defender Stefan Posch. Villarreal complete signing of former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey
Villarreal have completed the signing of former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey. Partey, 32, has signed a two year deal at the La Liga club, comprising of an initial one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. Official confirmation of the move is expected imminently. He will arrive at Villarreal on a free transfer after departing Arsenal following the end of his contract in June. The Athletic reported on August 3 the transfer was set to take place after the midfielder completed his medical, with the club's Champions League qualification deemed an important factor in the midfielder joining the club. Advertisement Partey was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault on July 4. He denies the charges. He had been the subject of an investigation that first started in February 2022 and had continued playing for Arsenal prior to the expiration of his contract. Partey appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and was granted conditional bail. As per the conditions of his bail, he must inform police of any international travel 24 hours in advance The Athletic reported in April that the Ghana international was in talks with Arsenal to extend his contract but an agreement could not be reached on the terms of the deal. Partey joined the club in a €50million (now £45.4m, $58.7m) deal from Atletico Madrid in 2020. He made 167 appearances during his five-year stay at Arsenal and played 52 times for Mikel Arteta's side last season.
