Battery Dance Festival is hosting $1 dance workshops this week
Each 90-minute class runs from 10–11:30 am at the company's fifth-floor space at 380 Broadway (yes, it's a walk-up, but the warm-up starts on the stairs). Reservations are required in advance and spots tend to vanish faster than you can say grand jeté. The token $1 fee is non-refundable—think of it as your investment in bragging rights.
Over the course of the week, guest instructors from the Netherlands, Taiwan, Germany, South Korea, Spain and Indonesia will share their unique approaches to movement, culminating with a class led by Battery Dance itself. It's an unusually intimate chance to train with artists who are also performing in the festival, which makes the workshops feel like a backstage pass to the action.
The workshops are just one part of the 44th Annual Battery Dance Festival, which is celebrating its latest season with a five-night performance run from Aug. 12–16. Each evening kicks off at 7 pm against a jaw-dropping Hudson River backdrop at Rockefeller Park. The program is a mash-up of premieres, international debuts and live music, drawing more than 12,000 in-person attendees and 35,000 online viewers each summer.
Expect everything from tap virtuoso John Manzari & Band to the New York debut of Wan Dance from Indonesia, plus a world premiere from Battery Dance itself. The festival even has themed nights—Friday, Aug. 15 is 'India Day,' featuring a new production on the Goddess Kali by Pittsburgh's Nandanik Dance Troupe and Kolkata-based soloist Subhajit Khush Das.
Battery Dance has been connecting New Yorkers with the world through movement since 1976, not just on stage but also in public spaces, schools and conflict zones around the globe. These $1 workshops are a rare chance to step into that mission—literally—while picking up a new skill or three. So lace up, limber up and snag a spot before they're gone.

The relaunch of the observation wheel has been described by Lord Mayor Nick Reece as 'a huge moment for Melbourne and a vote of confidence in the future of Docklands,' – with the City of Melbourne supporting the project. Further details – including ticketing prices and related activations are yet to be announced, but based on what we've seen from the Skyline Attractions team at their other venues, we're expecting big things. According to the organisers, visitor numbers in the first year are estimated at a quarter of a million. In the meantime, you'll just have to get your spinning fix at Skyline, which is located by the Yarra River.

A report revealed that over 40 historical complaints against Wallace had been upheld, along with an allegation that Torode once used a racist term, which he strongly denies. Despite fan backlash calling for the series to be cancelled, producers chose to broadcast series 21, which had already been recorded. Wednesday (13 August) night's episode - the fourth in the series - saw five amateur chefs enter the BBC kitchen instead of the usual six. However, the wide shot of the group entering the studio raised some eyebrows as the show deviated from its typical format, opting instead for close-ups of their faces or pairs. Once inside, John and Gregg explained that two chefs would automatically progress to the next round after preparing their initial dish. The two men in the competition - Sam and Trevor - advanced to the next round, leaving the three women - Hazel, Aileeen, and Marcella - to compete again, reports the Express. As his husband reignites the flame with his ex, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is thrown into turmoil when the case into Nate Robinson's (Jurell Carter) death is re-opened, while Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), heartbroken over the state of his marriage to Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) finds himself in huge danger with the killer, when he discovers a piece of evidence in his van. Charity isn't the only Dingle in despair as Cain (Jeff Hordley) continues to suffer in the aftermath of Nate's death and Moira (Natalie J Robb) is faced with the very real possibility that her time at Butler's has come to an end – though Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) finds a reason to smile as her attraction to Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) grows. Elsewhere, Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) continues to spiral in the aftermath of 'Mike's cruel extortion. As Ross Barton (Michael Parr) prods Mack about the surrogacy, Mackenzie opens up about it being the anniversary of the loss of his and Charity's baby. When he drunkenly returns home and confronts Charity about his issues with the surrogacy and his disappointment at her seemingly forgetting the importance of the date, she kicks him out. Also, Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) faces another job rejection, he falls back into working for Ray Walters (Joe Absalom), though supports April when she reveals her desire to return to school to get her GCSE's, while Cain learns that new evidence has come to light regarding Nate's murder. Nate's death and the mysterious circumstances surrounding it continues to create ripple effects throughout the village. John, unaware of his husbands betrayal, is wracked with anxiety when the police tell Dr. Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) that the investigation is being reopened, while Cain and Tracy Robinson's (Amy Walsh) grief is compounded by the fresh questioning. A guilty Aaron is left in turmoil following his night with his ex, and it's made worse when he realises that Robert believes he's chosen him over John. When Aaron guiltily suggests to John that they take some time away, he jumps at the opportunity, stopping only to make a particularly sinister phone call. While Kammy is buoyed by Belle's invitation to another lunch date, he's unaware that Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) is pushing Vinny to report him to the police over the assault on Vinny, actually carried out by Mike. Gabby is later disappointed when Vinny tells her that he lost the wedding rings that she chose. Over at Butler's, Moira's confidence in Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) is shattered when she learns that their contract has fallen through, leaving them both out of pocket. Moira is left to face the very real possibility that this could put an end to her farming career. Tracy's suspicion is roused when she establishes that the removal man doesn't recognise Nate. When the police intervene and he confirms that Owen Michaels (Simon Haines) was the man who paid him, Cain, Tracy and even Robert accept this. While John is confident that he can put the whole ordeal behind him, he offers Mack a lift, but Mack finds something with the potential to expose John to the entire village. Vinny's week goes from bad to worse when the police pay him a visit. They ask him about 'Mike' – who also goes by Graham – intending to investigate him for extortion. With his ordeal clearly far from over, Vinny begins to spiral. When Moira hears that Celia is ready to get out of the farming game, she's left with a plateful of food for thought when Celia advises her to follow suit. Plans are in motion as Aaron and John prepare to leave the village for a break, while Moira finally makes a decision regarding her future.
