Newly inducted Tripura BJP Minister Kishor Barman gets Panchayat, Higher Education, and GA (Political) portfolios
In a notification, signed by Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, it was stated that the three departments that were earlier with Chief Minister Manik Saha have been handed over to Barman.
'I have got the scope to work for the development of people living in gram panchayats and also development of education. I love to work with people and for their development,' Barman told the media after the portfolio distribution was made official.
Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu administered the oath of office to Barman at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhawan in Agartala on July 2.
Barman contested and won the 2023 Assembly polls from the Nalchar Assembly constituency (SC) in Sepahijala district.
He has served as the national general secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad for three terms.
A postgraduate in Bengali from Tripura University in 2004, Barman, 44, was engaged with the BJP's organisational work in North Bengal and served in party campaigns in Sikkim, Tripura, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
He became the BJP state general secretary in Tripura in 2021. Later, he quit from the post following the party's 'one man, one post' principle after he won the Assembly polls.

‘After elections, you're under state govt again': Mamata tells BLOs not to harass any voter unnecessarily
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday sought to remind booth-level officers (BLOs), who assist the Election Commission in preparing and updating voters' lists, that they work for the state government before and after elections, urging them to ensure no legitimate voter is removed from the lists. Speaking during an administrative meeting at Bolpur in Birbhum district, the chief minister also said she was not informed about the training given to the BLOs from the state in Delhi. 'About 1,000 BLOs were taken from West Bengal to Delhi for training, but I had no knowledge about it. I feel at least the district magistrates should have informed me, or informed the chief secretary. My request to the BLOs is to ensure that no one's name is removed from the voter list. Remember, after the election is announced, it comes under their purview. Before that, it is the state government, and again after the elections, it is the state government. So remember this: you are working for the state government. Don't harass any person unnecessarily,' Banerjee said. The chief minister also addressed widespread concerns about the alleged harassment of Bengali migrant workers in other states, especially those governed by the BJP. 'Children are also being harassed in other states. The Assam Government is sending notices to people of Bengal. Where does such audacity come from? If someone is gone for four days, does that mean his or her name will be removed from the voters' list?' she said. 'There are 2.2 million migrants; bring them back,' she further said, advising district magistrates to 'keep their eyes and ears open' and expressing dissatisfaction with their current efforts. Banerjee announced a scheme to assist migrants returning to West Bengal after alleged persecution. The scheme will 'include provisions to help them return safely, issue ration and job cards, and provide temporary shelters to those without a place to stay', the chief minister said. The chief minister strongly condemned the alleged persecution of Bengali-speaking migrants, calling it a 'deliberate' and 'politically motivated' act. 'Not just religious minorities, the poor and OBCs are also being targeted by them (the BJP). We must stand beside all persecuted Bengali migrants,' she said. The chief minister also touched upon recent law and order issues, including the murder of two Trinamool workers in Birbhum, and criticised the police. She reiterated the need for proactive policing under the Amar Para, Amar Samadhan (our neighbourhood, our solution) scheme. The chief minister's remarks come amid a politically charged atmosphere in West Bengal, with reports of alleged harassment of Bengali migrants in states such as Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha, and Maharashtra causing concern among their families back home. After citing ‘confusion', Haryana drops stalking accused Vikas Barala from list of 97 law officers
The Haryana government Monday dropped Vikas Barala, who is facing charges of sexual harassment for allegedly stalking and attempting to kidnap the daughter of an IAS officer eight years ago, from the list of 97 law officers. Sources said the government has communicated its decision to Barala, who was among the assistant advocate generals appointed by the state government. Haryana Advocate General Pravindra Singh Chauhan had told The Indian Express that 'there was some confusion, because there were two Vikas on the list'. He had also said that Barala, son of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala, had not joined and would not join. The Haryana government's July 18 notification listed appointments for the posts of assistant advocate generals, deputy advocate generals, senior deputy advocate generals, and additional advocate generals. The Indian Express reported that of the 97 law officers selected, at least 23 have connections to politicians, bureaucrats, judges, and IAS/IPS officers. The trial in the 2017 sexual harassment case against Barala is ongoing in a Chandigarh court, and he is currently out on bail. Vikas and his friend Ashish Kumar were booked on August 5, 2017, under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 354D (stalking), 341 (wrongful restraint), 365 (attempt to abduct) and 511, apart from charges of drunk driving. The complaint by a daughter of a Haryana-cadre IAS officer alleged that the duo chased and tried to enter her vehicle late at night in Chandigarh forcibly. Subhash Barala was serving as the Haryana BJP chief at that time. Following the woman's complaint, an FIR was filed at the Sector 26 police station. Vikas and Ashish were arrested on August 9, 2017, after significant public outcry. Charges were framed against the accused in October 2017. Vikas was lodged in Chandigarh's Model Jail at Burail until the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him bail in January 2018. The next date of hearing in the trial is listed on August 2, 2025, for the recording of defence evidence.
