‘Will Discuss…': Tejashwi Yadav Hints At Review Of Bihar Liquor Ban Ahead Of Polls
Tejashwi Yadav suggested revisiting Bihar's liquor ban if his party wins the polls, criticising the NDA government for poor enforcement and increasing crime rates.
Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday dropped a broad hint that the liquor prohibition policy, imposed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in 2016, could be reviewed if his party comes to power in the upcoming assembly polls.
While speaking with reporters at an event in Patna today, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader said that the ban has raised multiple concerns and the question will be discussed with the people and government officials, and a decision will be taken afterwards.
'The liquor ban has led to a surge in questions and complications. There will be discussions with everyone, A thorough review will be conducted. Since the issue is being raised, it certainly deserves a discussion…" he said as quoted by news agency IANS.

Turning his criticism towards the incumbent NDA government, Yadav launched a scathing attack on the state's law and order situation, accusing the administration of harbouring criminals. Referring to Bihar's two deputy chief ministers, Vijay Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, he said, 'Criminals have become Vijay-Samrat in Nitish Kumar's government."
'There is no action against criminals. Gang rape is happening in ambulances. Shootouts are occurring in broad daylight. Over 100 murders have been reported in a single week," he alleged, painting a grim picture of public safety in the state.
Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav criticised Nitish Kumar's government over the persistent sale and availability of alcohol, despite a statewide ban enacted in 2016. Yadav has accused the government of failing to enforce the prohibition effectively, pointing to tragedies as evidence that illicit liquor is easily accessible in many parts of Bihar.
The prohibition law, introduced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aimed to address social issues stemming from alcohol consumption.

New Delhi: The election for the post of Vice President will be held on September 9, the poll authority announced on Friday. The notification for the vice presidential election will be issued on August 7 and the last date for filing nomination papers will be August 21. The polling, if required, shall take place in room number F-101, Vasudha, on the first floor of Parliament building on September 9 between 10 am and 5 pm. The results will be announced on the same day. The post of the vice president fell vacant after the resignation of incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21. The Election Commission has appointed the Rajya Sabha Secretary General as the Returning Officer and two officials of Rajya Sabha Secretariat as Assistant Returning Officers for the vice presidential election. The Electoral College for the vice presidential election comprises members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The nominated members of the Rajya Sabha too are eligible to vote in the vice presidential election. The electoral college for the vice presidential election comprises 233 elected members of the Rajya Sabha, 12 nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and 543 members of the Lok Sabha. There are five vacancies in the Rajya Sabha and one in the Lok Sabha, pegging the effective strength of the electoral college at 782. The ruling National Democratic Alliance has a comfortable edge in the ensuing poll. Shah to visit Assam on Aug 29, join land protection drive & unveil new Raj Bhavan
1 2 Guwahati: Ahead of the assembly election early next year, Union home minister Amit Shah will join the state in its drive to protect its lands from encroachers here on Aug 29. Shah, who is also the cooperation minister, will address the panchayat members from NDA on the state govt's plan to form cooperatives in every panchayat. These cooperatives will use the vacant govt land on lease for cultivation and farming so that no encroachment on any vacant govt land can take place. Large swathes of forest lands in the state, illegally occupied by Bangladesh-origin Muslim people, are being cleared by the state govt. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing a press conference here on Friday, said, "The Union home minister will first inaugurate the newly constructed Raj Bhavan on Aug 29, which I think will be the best Raj Bhavan in the country. Thereafter, he will address a convention of the newly elected panchayat members of BJP and its ally Asom Gana Parishad." He further said the state govt is planning to form cooperative societies in every panchayat. "The responsibility of the cooperative societies will be to use the vacant govt land for agriculture, farming, or dairy. "Since Shah is also the cooperation minister, he will also address the panchayat members on this," he added. In the evening, Shah will attend the birth centenary of Assam's first non-Congress CM Golap Borbora. He will then return to Delhi. Borbora was arrested in 1975 during the Emergency for opposing the then Indira Gandhi govt and he spent 18 months in Tihar jail. He became the state unit president of the Janata Party in 1977 after his release from Tihar jail and led the party to victory with 53 seats. He was unanimously elected the first non-Congress chief minister of Assam in 1978, but his govt lasted for only 18 months. He was also a Rajya Sabha member from 1968 to 1974.
