About 3,000 jobs in various sectors available in Czech Republic
Almost 3,000 job opportunities in different sectors are available in the Czech Republic, according to the report of Mariz Umali on "Saksi" Wednesday.
Applicants may have a better chance to land a job if they have experience of about one year in food manufacturing, transportation, construction, logistics, hospitality and support services.
"The ideal quota to start with is a little over 10,000 positions per year. Czechs ver quickly reailzed how skilled the Filipinos are. They speak English so there is no communication barrier. They are very adaptable so they can easily learn new skills," said ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Philippines Karl Hejc.
The minimum salary, depending on the profession, may be 6,000 euros a month or about P100,000, which does not include bonuses.
Licensed recruitment agencies said it would take about six months before a successful job applicant can travel to the Czech Republic because of the processing of documents.
"We are continuously working on improving the process just to make it easier, more flexible and to shorten it as much as possible," said Hejc.
The process can be made easier as applicants can submit their documents electronically, said Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.
"At least we've mentioned to the President, is to unify the OEC (Overseas Employment Certificate) and the e-travel," he added.
Cacdac said there are no placement fees needed in applying for work. — BAP, GMA Integrated News

DTI releases price guide for school supplies ahead of S.Y. 2025
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday released the price guide for school supplies in time for the upcoming school year opening in June. The department said prices of some items have been reduced to provide affordable options for parents and students. 'This 2025 price guide covers 195 stock keeping units (SKUs) across 12 product categories. Notably, 29 items have seen decreased prices compared to the previous year, with reductions ranging from PHP 1.00 to PHP 10.00,' the DTI said in a statement. The prices for four SKUs of notebook were cut between P5.00 to P10.00; for 24 SKUs of pad paper, prices have been slashed between P1.00 to P6.00; and a piece of pencil is now cheaper by P5.00. Hence, notebooks are priced from P15.00 to P52.00, pad paper ranges from P15.00 to P48.75, and pencils cost P11.00 to P24.00. Meanwhile, the price of SKUs for ballpens, erasers, and sharpeners remain unchanged. Pens are available from P3.00 to P33.00, sharpeners are priced at P15.00 to P69.00, and erasers remain priced at P4.50 to P20.00. Other school supplies like crayons, in various box sizes, range between P12.00 to P114.00. Rulers can be bought at P16.00 to P39.00. The DTI reminds the public to be careful when purchasing school supplies. Consumers must check the product labels, the number of leaves in notebooks and pad papers, among others. 'Every peso counts for Filipino families, especially during back-to-school season. This price guide is a promise that under this administration, no learner is left behind. We want every child, regardless of background, to step into the classroom with pride and readiness, and every parent to feel that the government is walking alongside them,' said Secretary Cristina Roque. — BAP, GMA Integrated News

GMA Network, TAPE lawyers meet in mediation conference
Lawyers of GMA Network and Television and Production Exponents (TAPE) Inc. appeared in a mediation conference on Thursday to discuss the possibility of reaching a settlement in relation to the estafa complaint that GMA filed against TAPE. According to Mariz Umali's report on '24 Oras' Thursday, the mediation conference was held at the Office of the City Prosecutor of Quezon City 'We want to collect the amount that was misappropriated. The amount that should have been given to GMA but was not remitted by the officers of TAPE. We have been waiting for the remittance of the ad revenues. Unfortunately, despite repeated demands, hindi nabigay sa atin 'yon,' GMA Network's legal counsel Atty. Lynn Delfin said. TAPE Inc. did not deny its obligations to GMA Network. 'I think TAPE naman is not denying that there's collectibles to the corporation. Maybe the main contention only is whether it's civil or criminal,' TAPE Inc.'s legal counsel Atty. Maggie Garduque said. The prosecutor's office has set another mediation conference on June 11 to determine if GMA Network will accept TAPE Inc.'s offer. 'We have been saying din naman that management is open to listen and to see what offer they have. And if it's reasonable, we can decide on what to do about it,' Atty. Delfin said. 'Under the rules, 'yung mediation kasi is also dependent on the complainant if they are willing or open for settlement. So, in this particular case kasi maganda na nalaman natin on the part of GMA that they are open for settlement,' Atty. Garduque said. Should the mediation fail on June 11, the preliminary investigation of the case will proceed, and the merits of the case will be discussed in court. GMA Network, Inc. had filed a criminal complaint for estafa with abuse of confidence against officers of TAPE Inc. for the misappropriation of funds totaling P37,941,352.56. The complaint stems from the respondents' failure to remit advertising revenues collected from clients, which had been contractually assigned to GMA Network under a 2023 Assignment Agreement. Despite multiple formal demands, the funds were not transferred to GMA because they were instead used for TAPE's operational expenses, in violation of the trust arrangement outlined in the agreement. —Carby Rose Basina/CDC, GMA Integrated News

SWS: 87% of Pinoys want new Senate to prioritize education
Eighty-seven percent of Filipinos want the newly composed Senate to prioritize reforms on education in the upcoming 20th Congress, the latest survey by Stratbase and Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed. The survey conducted on May 2-6 asked respondents which issues the upper chamber must prioritize after the midterm elections, which was conducted last May 12. A large number of respondents said that the Senate should definitely prioritize improving accessibility of education by strengthening the public education system, distribution of scholarships, and expansion of vocational training programs. A recent study by the Philippine Statistics Authority found that 5.58 million Filipinos who have at least graduated junior high school are considered functionally illiterate. The SWS poll also showed that 83% believe that senators must support agricultural development with subsidies, training, and market access for farmers to boost food security. There were 82% who said that the Senate must prioritize investing in healthcare systems and 79% said that senators should push for expanding social welfare programs for low-income families. Further, 74% of the respondents are expecting the upper chamber to deal with the calls to increase the minimum wage and 73% said that promoting job creation must definitely be prioritized. The survey showed that 71% agree that senators should work on the implementation of price control measures to stabilize the cost of essential goods and services. There were 67% who said that the Senate must strengthen governance reforms to ensure transparency and accountability in government's spending. The survey commissioned by the Stratbase Group was done through face-to-face interviews of 1,8000 registered voters (aged 18 years and above) nationwide: 300 in Metro Manila, 900 in Balance Luzon, 300 in the Visayas, and 300 in Mindanao. The sampling error margins are ±2.31% for national percentages, ±3.27% for Balance Luzon, and ±5.66% each for Metro Manila, the Visayas and Mindanao. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA Integrated News
