Machete attack in Winnipeg leaves 18-year-old man with life-threatening injuries

CBC6 days ago
An 18-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was attacked with a machete by a man on a bicycle in Winnipeg's North End, police say.
Police were called around 4:30 a.m. on July 13 to the corner of Selkirk Avenue and Parr Street, where the man was lying outside a convenience store.
He was bleeding profusely and rushed to hospital in critical condition, police said in a news release on Tuesday.
Officers immediately contained the area and spoke with people in the area.
The victim was with a teenage girl when they approached a man riding a bicycle to ask if he could lend them money for something from the store, the news release says.
Without warning, the cyclist attacked the man before riding off, police said. A passing driver stopped to help and called 911.
Another witness stopped and provided emergency medical care until paramedics arrived.
The victim has since been upgraded to stable condition but no arrests have been made.
The attack happened five days before three teens, one armed with a machete, attacked a 14-year-old boy at Polo Park shopping mall. The teen was hit multiple times by a machete and suffered a "significant injury" to his hand, police said.
Three boys, age 13, 14 and 15, were arrested nearby.
Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the attacker in the July 13 incident. The only description they have is that he was carrying a black backpack and wearing a ball cap that may have had a white NY Yankees logo on the front.
He was riding a BMX-style bicycle and last seen riding on Selkirk toward Main Street.
