New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday announced that train services will begin at 4 a.m. across all lines on Independence Day, August 15, to facilitate the movement of guests, invitees, and the general public attending the celebrations at the Red Fort. According to the DMRC advisory, trains will operate at a frequency of 30 minutes until 6 a.m., after which the regular timetable will be followed for the rest of the day. "To facilitate the special guests, invitees, and general public to attend the Independence Day ceremony on Friday, 15th August 2025, the Delhi Metro will commence its services at 04:00 a.m. on all its Lines from all terminal stations. The train services will be available at a frequency of 30 minutes on all the Lines till 06:00 a.m. and thereafter, the regular timetable will be followed for the rest of the day," Delhi Metro said in a statement. "In addition, people in possession of a bona fide Invitation Card issued by the Ministry of Defence for attending the Independence Day ceremony will be provided special QR tickets for travel to and from the venue," the advisory stated. According to the rail cooperation, the cost of such travel will be reimbursed to the DMRC by the Ministry of Defence. Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Gate Metro stations are the closest to the venue. Earlier in the day, a full-dress rehearsal for the Independence Day celebrations was held at the Red Fort under tight security. The rehearsal featured security personnel, cultural contingents, and ceremonial arrangements that will be replicated on August 15. Delhi Police had issued a traffic advisory for the rehearsal, restricting vehicle movement around the Red Fort from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Several key roads, including Lothian Road, Chandni Chowk Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, and Nishad Raj Marg, were closed to general traffic. Traffic from ISBT Kashmere Gate, Salimgarh Bypass, Vikas Marg, and nearby areas was also diverted to ensure smooth mobility and security.

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) has intensified security checks ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations in the national capital. It has advised commuters to plan their journeys accordingly, especially during peak hours, as they may witness longer queues during the screening process. The security checks, led by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), will be tightened across all metro stations until August 16, the DMRC said in a post on X. This may result in long queues at some Metro stations, especially during peak hours till Independence Day. "Therefore, passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly and allow for some additional time for their commute during these days. Passengers are requested to cooperate with the security personnel during these checks," the DMRC added. In view of enhanced security arrangements ahead of Independence Day on 15th August, the security checks for passengers will be further intensified by CISF across the Metro stations starting from tomorrow i.e., 9th August 2025 (Saturday). It also requested all travellers to cooperate with CISF personnel, for some may be required to undergo frisking if needed. Additional CISF personnel have been stationed at each metro station to manage the crowd and carry out inspections. According to Business Standard, the authorities are also deploying additional surveillance, such as drone detection grids and CCTV networks, this year. High-rise structures around the Red Fort have their rooftops patrolled by monitoring teams and snipers. Around 10,000 soldiers, including paramilitary groups and special commandos, have already been stationed throughout the city. In New Delhi, nearly 10,000 police officers and more than 3,000 traffic police officials have been deployed. In addition, 700 cameras, equipped with facial recognition technology and artificial intelligence (AI), are in place to keep an eye on crowds. Additionally, security has been increased at key sites such as Indira Gandhi International Airport, train and bus terminals, shopping centres, and marketplaces.

Pune: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) collected ₹137.37 crore from passenger traffic during the Raksha Bandhan festival period and extended holiday weekend from August 8 to August 11, with an unprecedented single-day collection of ₹39.09 crore on Monday alone — the highest daily earnings of the current financial year. According to the officials, MSRTC collected ₹30.06 crore on August 9, ₹34.86 crore on August 10 (Raksha Bandhan) and ₹33.36 crore on August 11. Over these four days, 1.93 crore passengers, including 88 lakh women, availed the service.
